All addicts have the same access to care if they really want it. AA and similar type meetings are free and help more than any other treatment. All it takes is a phone call. The amount of money you spend is of little significance. You can spend $100 an hour ( or $1000) an hour for one psychiatrist or $1.00 ( typical AA donation) an hour and get the benefit of 100 people who understand the disease better. Your last sentence says it all. It is up to him. We have all seemingly diagnosed this man as needing help yet it is his self diagnosis that is the only one that counts. I have a feeling that once he wakes up surrounded by that reprehensible family, he will again be diagnosed as being "cured".

I don't think meetings are going to cut it for him.. He needs intensive inpatient treatment. At an upscale place, like that Malibu place that's advertised, his fellow patients are likely to be Hollywood celebrities, idle rich, and fallen sports heroes. He may relate better to them than a Narcotics Anonymous meeting in Harlem (then again, maybe not)

Class status has nothing to do with this. There are no high class or low class drunks or addicts. Just drunks and addicts. If this man has a problem he has to view himself as equal or lower than Harlem drunk sitting on a curb with a bottle in a paper bag or under the stairwell with a needle in his arm.

Maybe!?

That view is in the eye of the beholder since either class that has never been in one or the other has no such relationship issue to feel better/worse about or relate to and even if they did it would most likely not affect the direction to be taken next.

Odom has been an idiot about his health. And about refusing to seek help for his addictions.
Not everyone gets a second chance at life - I hope he uses his wisely.

No Billy, that view is in the eye of the experts and those who have been through it. Fact is that putting investment bankers in the same rehab group with other investment bankers is exactly what is not done. More likely they would be placed in a group with curbside alcoholics.

Such a waste of life. And such a shame. I don't care how much he wasted his life, it is still a life.

I am wondering how some in the generation of us that grew up watching shows like My Three Sons Ozzie and Harriet, Gunsmoke, Gary Moore, Loretta Young, Andy Williams ETC have now sunk into the immoral abyss of now watching what surely represents the worst of society ...the Kardishian Family. Really mind boggling.
