Many, many people look at their pets (including me) as their children. They are innocent and vulnerable and want nothing more than to please and give love.

My hubby is a retired Veterinarian and I've seen the abuse and stupidity some people can inflict on poor defenseless creatures. This was NOT tolerated in our clinic. If abuse was suspected, we treated it the same way suspected child abuse would be... we notified the authorities. And it was nowhere near the scale of the viciousness that Michael Vic demonstrated. An "I'm sorry" doesn't cut it on this one. Noooooooooo Way!!!

By signing him on, the Eagles have sent a message out that this is OK. That the pain of another living thing does not matter when it comes to money. They make me as sick as he does.

We should all be working, boycotting, writing, etc. to get make sure our athletes remain the role models for our children, that they should be. Hey, they signed on for this... they get the big bucks... it's more than just playing the game! My heart broke when they caught Michael Phelps smoking a bong. OK, he's a kid. I get it. But, how stupid can he be! I thought of the many little boys and young men that could think "Oh, this is a Gold Medal winner, so this is all right then." NO!!!! It is not all right! None of it is all right! From the gambling, to the steroids, to the animal abuse... it must stop somewhere!

Boycott the teams, and most of all the TV sponsors that put up with this. Hit them in the pocketbooks from another direction. Where are all the "family value" people on this subject!

Michael Vic is not a man. Anyone that abuses animals is as low a form of life as child abusers in my book. NO! This is not OK! His "I'm sorry" just doesn't cut it. Like some have said, "I don't think he's sorry, I think he's sorry he got caught." There's a vast difference.

Well said Chelsea. I agree with you 101%. If watching dogs suffer didn't affect Vic, than why are we lead to believe he's a changed man just because he did some Community Service work and jail time! There was a continuous stream of animals that went through this torture and abuse. If seeing this the first time didn't make Vic think "This is Wrong", then how can anyone say he's a changed inside? Only time will tell, and in my opinion, not enough time has passed. Why does he have to return to a sport where good players are practically worshipped as "Gods" and "Heroes"? Family values??? What are children to think nowadays? What a wrong message to send to send to everyone.

Default "Vick" not "Vic"

Don't be so critical until you learn to spell his name correctly.

I agree with you 100% Nonie! In fact, I have another name for him, but I don't think they'd allow me to print it here!

Well, 2 posts since he/she joined yesterday, and as we say in this forum, alandc1937 is just an agitator, or troll as they say. Very insensitive and smart azz and I know the name for him, Chels, and maybe Tony will take care of him/her (although I doubt the latter). Have a nice day, alandc, your on ignore!!!

I love all this twaddle. Evidently people deserve a 2nd chance as long as the sin they committed is one I'm not that into. Had the guy robbed a bank or defrauded an insurance company or rich investors of a few million bucks, maybe if he'd killed a generic human victim, there would be a parade to celebrate his rehabilitation. But certain crimes are unforgivable. Certainly one who commits child abuse or certain hate crimes are absolute lost souls who obviously deserve life in a super-max, if not death. Now animal abuse has joined that pantheon of crimes.

So we can't fight gov't and the beast (no pun intended) serves not quite 2 years in a federal penitentiary. But we certainly don't want him to be a professional athlete where he would be a roll model for our kids --- I guess because we are hopeless as parents so we must rely the Ray Lewis's fresh from his murder trial and the various drug users to inspire our little tykes. I thank God for my youth when I had such paragons as a drunken Mickey Mantle to admire or a witty Whitey Ford telling this innocent 12 year old to "Go F**k Yourself!" to emulate. Some athletes are remarkable people who do good things for a lot of people, but they are just people. If your kid needs a male role model, make it their father or uncle, a teacher or preacher, or the small businessman in the neighborhood who fights to stay ahead. Look to Junior Achievement, not the NFL or NBA.

But, please, please, if you hate the guy, if you think him beyond redemption, if you think he should be castrated and cast into the depths of the Château d'If, get his friggin' name right. Vic owns Embers, a good restaurant in Leesburg. Vick is the VA Tech alum, former Atlanta QB, convicted and admitted animal torturer and killer.

Wow you're so perceptive! This is EXACTLY what I'd like to happen to Michael Vick!

Yes! Michael Vick!

Did I get the name right Alandc1937??? I would hate to misspell the name of a convicted animal abuser, torturer and killer! But, ya know what they say "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet..." Well, the same goes for a first class piece of sh%$! like Michael Vick! By any other name or spelling... he would still stink!

I'm with Kathie! Bit of advice Alandc1937... don't pick on Nonie. She's about as pure of heart a person as you'll ever meet and a very dear friend to most all of us.

I am jumping in on this discussion to simply say.......Michael Vick is a despicable human being who treated animals with extreme cruelty.....and yes he served his time....but being back in the limelight as a sports figure is also despicable....think of the many children who will look up to this man....what an example.....it makes me very angry at the NFL...proves money is the bottom line for them.

Well, I am so against him playing anymore ball. He has to live with his cruelty and the shame. I don’t understand how anyone could do such a thing. I for one…will not watch him play no matter what. I am sure there are many other people thinking the same way I do.
