Are you able to write checks you do not have funds to cover with? Well the government does not operate that way. They continue to spend; adding people; not cutting programs; there is no accountability or responsibility for overspending....NONE.

Like it or not if making America great again means eliminating that which does not work or eliminating that which they cannot afford or eliminating people and programs to make America "profitable/viable" again....then let them have at it a chop away.

Just like we all have to do at home to balance our check book.

Actually the middle class is not paying for this, our children and grandchildren are. Trump is promising more of the same. We need a balanced budget amendment. As long as politicians can spend without paying this will continue until we crash. I believe that will be sooner rather than later.

Explain to me what is bad about cutting totally useless programs that benefits no one except the one who got it passed. We really need to know how shrimp mate (at taxpayer expense)???

Keep jobs for those that are actually already doing the work and eliminate the slackers. Believe me, we had plenty in the government contracted company where I worked. I have seen it first-hand. We had one guy who used to walk around with a paint bucket in his hand all day. Took time out for breaks and lunch. First in line to clock out. Never, ever saw him applying paint to anything! One of our clerks would go through the in basket and take all the easy tasks for herself, leaving the harder jobs for the rest of us. If an emergency job came in, before the supervisor could get it assigned, she magically was in the restroom, hand-delivering finished work, etc. I could go on and on, but you should get the picture by now.

Some like Boeing think that just because it is for the government, that it is an open checkbook. Trump is trying to monitor those checkbooks and rein in the unchecked spending. Why is that a problem?

My daughter was an unpaid fellow for two years with the Federal Government. She traveled with a Diplomatic passport and some times an armed escort. She was an expert in her field. The majority of the employees she work with were excellent but there were a number that in her opinion were not compent in the area they worked in. Reassigning or firing a mismatched employee seems to be hard and hiring compent employees can also be difficult as there are a number of rules that do not apply to competency that you have to consider in making the hiring decision. Hopefully the rules will change to allow for the termination of employees that are not adequately performing and to hire the best qualified employee for the job.

Affirmative action and quotas...THAT is what ruined us and needs to end. THAT is why there are incompetent people working in government. We carry 20% dead wood because of "diversity".

Good info. No matter how much the wealthy pays, those that pay little or none will always feel the wealthy should pay more. Many middle class earners with a family pay little to NO income tax. A family of four making about $50K a year will pay no income tax.

Ha ha ha...good one! They "borrow" over a $trillion every year. Almost 25% of the federal "budget" is borrowed money. We owe $20 trillion, over $60,000 per citizen. We're bankrupt and we're spending over a $trillion a year on welfare. Giving healthcare to people so we can keep supporting them. Like giving death row inmates life saving organ transplants so we can kill them later.

Without a RADICAL shift in policy...the country is toast.

Completely agree. The proper "fair tax" sales tax, would have everyone paying their fair share. And the rich do spend a lot of money so no one would be able to complain.

That 47% you speak of, doesn't pay 'personal income tax'...but they certainly pay taxes.

IN FACT, they pay a MUCH HIGHER PERCENTAGE of their income to taxes, both federal and state through payroll/Social Security/gas/sales/etc./etc.)...than you probably do.

The message from all this is pretty clear: It is simply not true that more than 40 percent of U.S. households pay no taxes, or even no federal taxes. While many may not pay federal income tax this year, 80 percent will pay Social Security and Medicare taxes. They do indeed, as the phrase goes, have skin in the game.

Twist it all you wish but he/she said that they are paying NO FEDERAL INCOME TAX. That's really not too hard to understand, even if you do insist on twisting it to your agenda. Payroll taxes for SS and Medicare is not included in Federal INCOME taxes in this conversation.

Let me add a little more to it. A family of four making middle income wages of about $50K per year will pay NO Federal Income tax.
