Default Direct TV

We are fed up with Comcast. Currently we pay approximately $240 a month for service and each month a new charge appears.

If you have Direct TV I would like to know if you are satisfied with the service and approximately how much do you pay per month.

Thank you.

Duffysmom,
I LOVE Direct TV!!
Pricing depends on how many tv, which options you choose and so on.
If you decide to do it and use someone's acct # to sign up both get $10 off a month for a time. If you'd like my acct #, pm me for it.

We have a fairly basic channel line-up, plus the Tennis channel, and it costs around $70 a month. We have been very happy with it.

It only rarely loses the signal - has to be very heavy rain.

We put it on vacation when we are not here - very easy to do, and you can do so for up to six months of the year. During that time there is no charge. A phone call to the automated service turns it back on again in seconds.

Duffy... I can certainly understand your frustration with comcast. My latest bill took a big jump when a year old promotion ran out. So, I called them and politely asked about current promotions and bundles. I was able to redo triple play for about $5 more than my recent bills, before the big hike. This bundle is everything I had before but now includes their phone modem and boosted Internet speed. I did not use their phone before but will try it now. If it works, my $35/ month landline plus long distance goes away so my net is way below current costs.

I will pay about $185 for triple play... 1 HD/dvr box, 1 HD box, 2 DTAs, plus tier on Internet, sports pack, hbo/Showtime/starz/Cinemax, their phone modem. Price good for a year.

Bottom line, if you are ok with their service, it might be worth calling to renegotiate the rates. I was this close to dumping them for Century links bundled service...but will give them another chance with this bundle

Of course, the simple act of phoning to change bundles and rates led to two followup tech calls to fix things they screwed up...DVR was disabled and the next day my Internet was disconnected. Never fails when you change something on the account...

Good luck whichever way you go...

Hi - the only good choices in my area are DirecTV and Comcast. The Comcast TV service and customer service is terrible, so I'm resigned to making the best of DirecTV.

When I signed up for DirecTV it was a 24 month promotion that included free HDTV for life. As we approached the 24 month end, I called them at 800-531-5000 and asked what replacement credits I qualify for, and they gave me either $5/month or $10/month credit for another 12 months. Now I keep track of that and phone in advance to make sure I get replacement credits. About once a year they call me with promotions as well. I have their Xtra package with a DVR and HDTV service and I am currently paying about $76. after credits. I hate the annual begging but what can you do?

Especially if you are a sports fan, directv is the only game in town. It has the best packages, for what you pay. The service rarely goes out, but when it does, it's only about 10 to 15 minutes. Ususally, heavy cloud cover with heavy rain, will cause this problem. Mostly, in the rainy summer month of July.

My experience with their customer service left me disenchanted as they could be trained better. For instance, I called a couple of times with the same question and got two different answers. Some of the CS reps will tell you anything to get you off the phone as they seem to be in a rush, to get to the next call.

They have a very good product at reasonable prices, compared to the horror stories on TOTV, about Comcast service. I have found Centuryluink reps to need more training, as they are are a storhouse of misinformation. Some people are there, to just warm their seat.

Long story, nuff said.....

Switched from Comcast to Direct TV for the same reason as the OP. Now having the same issues with Direct - prices going up, Weather Channel dropped, and lost the signal today during the storm. We lose the signal at least every day in the summer with the storms. My concern is when tropical storms come through and we lose the signal, oh yeah doesn't matter 'cause I don't have the Weather Channel anymore. I'm going to call and be like CFrance and see if it works.

We've had Directv since 2008 and I have found their customer service reps are very flexible. 2011 and 2012 we had NFL Sunday Ticket, which meant I could watch any NFL game I wanted, Sunday at 1pm I had 9 games to choose from. Anyway, they started billing me last August 6 payments of $33 extra each month, they automatically do that if you had subscribed the previous season. I called and said I can't afford the NFL Ticket this year, the rep said wait a minute. She gave me $30 credit for the next six months, I got the package bascially for free. I've asked in the past for various discounts and they always came through.

I've been a DirecTV cust for 7 yeears here and probably at least 10 years in WISC.
As said earlier, for sports, there is no one else.

As for loosing signal, do any of you that loose it go to the 'standard def' channel? It's there nearly 99.9% of the time.

We switched from Comcast to Direct TV. These are my thoughts: less $ with Direct, certain sports packages only available on Direct, MANY MANY more outages on Direct due to rainstorms. Neither Direct TV nor Comcast are optimal!

When you're losing your picture during a rain storm did you notice it's normally an HD channel. For example TNT on channel 245, if you were to pull up the menu and then select 'all channels', you'll see two sets of numbers of every channel that has an HD channel. In this example for channel 245, select the other 245 and enter, you then should receive the non-HD broadcast of TNT unless it's a super downpour.

I only lose my signal during the gully washers, but seems like we had one a day last summer. Today experienced the same while the worst of the storm was going through.
