Default TOTV - the good, the bad and the ugly

This is good advice from JoeC, gerryann.

I remember way back "in the olden days"- less than a couple years ago...when I was just lurking on TOTV...that I was frightened by some of the posts on this forum. I took everyone's advice as true.

But then I realized that there are those who like to "stir up the pot"....and cause controversy.

And there are people on this forum who are not real people. Who knows what kind of a person "swimdawg" is, for heaven's sake? (Well....now some know because they have met me....and I am the real deal.) However, it's scary sometimes...reading some of these posts.....people who give advice....not "the real deal".

So don't be frightened....like I was...by some of the wacky posts....few as they are.

Just like everything in our lives, there's the good, the bad and the ugly. Lucky for all of us, the good far outweighs the others by far. Hang in there....enjoy....and realize that a good sense of humor helps as well.

Now I'm going to tell you the good, the bad...and the ugly. I'll start with the bad: it's cold here in Western New York; The good: I am arriving in TV on Thursday; And the UGLY - we are expecting SNOW here tonight! Horrors!!!

Do you think it is OK to bring your own candy/snack to the movie theater? And if so, do you think this is different than bringing your own drink to a restaurant?

That's food for thought.

Kinda tough to do, but you might also try to snag a nice tablecloth or two on your way out while you're at it. Should be able to get out the door by making a wrap around skirt out of it or something..................

I'll keep an eye out for you on the police blotter.

[QUOTE=cappyjon431;482457]I wanted to stay out of this one, but since my wife and I were discussing a similar issue a few days ago I just can't hold back. We've only been here six months, but in that short amount of time we have seen more people get water glasses and use them to get soft drinks at Sweet Tomatoes, Crispers and various other restaurants around TV than we have ever seen at any other restaurants in our entire lives. Personally (and this is just my opinion), I feel this is the epitome of cheapness. I also think it is stealing. It is a form of lying. [QUOTE]

I find this post very interesting. I often have lunch at Crispers. When you order AND PAY for a soft drink, they give you a water glass. You're expected to go to the soft drink machine and fill your glass with a soft drink.

Could it be that you're misunderstanding the situation?

Also please know that the water is located in the soda machines, the water button is near the ice and under one of the soda buttons so it looks like your getting soda but it is water.

I don't think so. When we are in line and people in front of us say they "only want water to drink" and then end up getting soft drinks or tea the customer is lying. we've seen it no less than three or four times at Crispers. I was not aware that Crispers uses the same glass for water as they do for soft drinks and tea (as we always order tea), but I do know that at Sweet Tomatoes, Five Guys and several other restaurants in the area use different glasses to discourage this type of thing--although it doesn't appear to work.

Another similar situation can be found at Sweet Tomatoes. There is a section at the end of the salad bar that has "special toppings" (I don't remember what they are except I know they include shredded chicken). There is a sign that indicates that if you take from this section there is an additional charge of $2.59. Almost everytime we go to Sweet Tomatoes we see people load up on these special toppings but when they get to the cashier and are asked if they got any special toppings they invariably reply "no." Now I am willing to give people the benefit of the doubt and I am sure some people are not aware that there is an additional price. But I've also seen many read the sign, point it out to their spouse, but still deny taking the toppings to the cashier.

Used to eat breakfast at a Shoneys that had a good breakfast bar.

A certain church group came to town every year and the manager told me he had a hard time with the women wrapping meats in napkins and putting it in their purses.

He solved the problem by charging an extra breakfast for the table and when they complained he said it was for the 'take out' meal in their purses.
If they denied it he would offer the meals free if they would open the purses.

After a day or to the freeloading pretty much stopped.

Water is not dark brown. And tea is in a different area. It seems too many are willing to make excuses for bad behavior. I've seen it WAY to many times to continually make excuses for these people. They are lying. They are stealing. They are cheapskates. Either you are doubting my word (which is your right, although you would be incorrect not having witnessed what my wife I have witnessed time and time again) or you are making excuses for this type of behavior.

I believe you. There are lots of tight wads in this world. Do they realize their larcenies? Who knows.

It is my nature to give people the benefit of the doubt, but when you see it again and again, it gets increasingly more difficult to do.

The Sweet Tomatoes incidents I mentioned above are the perfect example. When I first saw people taking from the special toppings section and then deny taking from special toppings, I made excuses for them too. I thought Sweet Tomatoes was just making a poor business decision because it was too easy for someone to unwittingly take the special toppings and not know there was an additional charge. But when I see folks actually reading the sign, taking the toppings, and then denying it, I can no longer make excuses for them.

Someone that I will not name goes to McDonalds and takes a huge pile of napkins with their 99 cent hamburger and takes them home. This person also loads up on splenda and equal and takes that home as well. While were at it, how about bringing back a used cup to McDonalds for a free refill. Mind you this is a cup that the person bought coffee in a week ago. I've seen this done at McD's and at Panera.

The list goes on an on.....
