O'Dell, that's also Bailey's Trail which I travel anytime I go to Mallory, Arnold Palmer or Glenview. For five years I had my Yamaha sped up to 25 and I found it really ran better at 22 mph. About 3 years ago I dialed it back to 20, and no more worries when I'm on the side of the road. I'm also on St. Charles a lot, which is the same, it's a cart path. It's best to stay 20 or get a speedometer and lighten up when your not on an MMP. However, legally if your cart can go faster than 20 even though you're not, it's an illegal cart and can get ticketed. The problem that guy faced was, yes he got it dismissed, but he also paid a lawyer probably $500 which would have been the same amount as a ticket and court costs had he lost, plus he spent a day in Bushnell.

...used to tell the clever folks that came up with this little gem that there was no quota as we were allowed to write as many as we wanted and furthermore their taxes were paying my salary!! Back when the speed limit was 55mph (UGH) I never wrote a ticket till the clock was 70mph or over.

I was watching Pawn Stars last night on History Channel, it's the Las Vegas Pawn Shop run by three brothers. A guy brought in the driver's copy of a speeding ticket issued to Sammy Hagar for speeding in a 55 mph zone in a Ferrari.

For those who don't know, Sammy had a big hit in '84 "I Can't Drive 55". As it turned, they had an expert who said it was probably Sammy's signature, but it's only a copy of the ticket, the police have the real copy. The guy wanted $2,000 but they passed on buying.

Agreed. Fruitland Park police frequently stop cars on Moyer Loop for speeding.

When I asked why they took so long, I was told that there are only two cars covering Lake County and that they were in Tavares at the scene of an armed robbery.

First of all, I don't know why the Sumter County Sheriff is covering Lake County and second of all with an area the size of Lake county it's incomprehensible that there are only two cars covering.

So I would think that speeding tickets are pretty low on the priority list.

I was good friends with a police officer up north. He confirmed that there is no actual quota but if you didn't write a reasonable number of tickets they may have considered that you were sleeping in the cruiser and not doing your job.

My neighbor was driving in the cart lane on Stillwater. Lawyer cost him $3000.00.
Per the law, it's a felony if you go to court and lose. Annnnd it will be on your record forever.

Apparently a quote depends upon the jurisdiction, suspect some town councils tell the local sheriff that the dept should pay for itself via traffic tickets.

This is true and going north on 301 there is a big billboard warning motorists of an upcoming speed trap. AAA used to publish a list of speed traps.

They need to hire retired mall cops who are used to enforcing the 5 mph speed limits in parking garages. I remember the mall cop who stopped a lady in a parking garage and said:

"Ma'am, do you know how fast you were going?"
"No" she said.
"I clocked you at 7 mph!"

At one point there was actually a national registry of speed traps and for the past 30 years lived about a half mile away from one.

I said a lawyer was $500, same as ticket, $3000 makes it six times worse than paying the unregistered vehicle ticket. It's not a felony, a violation of the registration requirement is a second degree misdemeanor punishable with up to a $500 fine.

I don't think that was a case of bringing in revenue. It was more about officers slacking off during shifts. Some of them would literally go behind a shopping mall or some other secluded area and sleep.
