We have had Skype for months. Do not have Facebook yet. That may soon change as I think my wife would get a lot of use out of it.

As to Skype: we don't really use it much. One son has it and we get to see those two grand children once in a while. If you have enough contacts that have Skype it may be useful. It is good for real time communications but no substitute for Facebook.

Thumbs up Facebook

I've enjoyed Facebook. It helps keeping in touch with family and friends. It even has a chat feature..if someone is on facebook at the time you're on.. you can chat!! Great way to save on longdistance!!

Well, like Villages07, I finally broke down this weekend and joined Facebook. I immediately got a note from my younger sister saying it was about time I joined

Not sure how much I'll use it but we'll see.

Thumbs down Face Book

[ Now I will grant you that Facebook's control panel used by you for controlling who sees your information is not exactly easy to understand.>>

For me it's impossible to understand who sees what and I don't have the time to figure it out.
I don't like games and if you don't join in some pie throwing thing your friends start they get upset. I hate face book. What a time waster.

Yeah. I have to agree with you on both items. I looked at Facebook's control panel several times since I joined in order to ensure I had the settings the way I wanted them. Instead of pie throwing, I immediately received an invitation from my niece to join the game Farmville.

Well, like I said, I joined this weekend but we'll see how much I actually use it.

For exammple my kids names appeared in my profile. I have no idea how they got there.

Isn't this a little scary?

Cashman,

It is - but it is really just some clever programming. There are switches you can set in your profile to prevent it from happening. If you can't find it, PM me and I'll take a look for you. I remember very little off the top of my head anymore...

Yes it is a little scary. When I first signed on this weekend I gave it minimal information. It immediately presented me with a list of four names, three of them were relatives (I have no idea who the fourth one was). Only one of my relatives has the same last name, the other two do not. I'm still trying to figure out how it linked me to them.

Then when I selected to send friend invitations to my three relatives, it presented me another list of about 16 names, which included another three relatives and a former neighbor along with about a dozen people I didn't know.

They are probably people on your relatives friend list. You'll see on the side sometimes they show someone & tell you how many friends you have in common.

Default Yes, Love Facebook

My older granddaughter got me into Facebook. As so many have said, it's a great way to keep up on what the family's doing. I'll be glad when the rest of my grandkids are allowed to have Facebook accounts.

We started planning our 40th high school reunion this year on FB. It has been a fabulous resource for locating peep who have scattered.

When I first joined, I wasn't going to "friend" my teenage neices and nephews for fear that they would not be receptive to "the older generation" barging in. I was so wrong. They all friended me within less than an hour of my signing on! I also have been delighted to discover our generation in force on FB, enabling me to reconnect with many, many old friends with whom I had lost touched.

Yes, my wife and I both use FB. All of our children are on it, their friends, and many of my former students.
