Default Stolen handicap parking pass

How sad I am that someone stole my handicap pass. I had parked in colony f/o publics . Put the card on mirror of my golf cart and went in to shop. When I came out it was gone. I am sure I can get another from motor vehicle but to have something like that taken. Makes me wonder what kind of person would do that.

I can't help but hope tomorrow they fall and break both legs. It's only right.

So sorry that someone felt they had a more important need than you do!

We made a copy of the one we have for our car, taped the two sides together and trimmed it neatly. Then put it in a plastic sleeve and used the clear packing tape to tape it to the golf cart window. No one has removed that!

Great idea for future use for anyone to do.

I actually think it is a good idea also, always afraid that someone would take ours too, but I have to wonder if that is legal if you were to get stopped by the police. I was told that they have gotten really picky because people who weren't handicapped were "copying" a friends tag, and so many people abused the system. Does anyone know if it is ok to copy the tags if you already have one?

I would hope the only time it would be challenged due diligence on the officer's part would prove it's valid especially if it was explained a previous theft of tag prompted the use of a copy. It doesn't hurt to ask law enforcement for the true answer. My belief is that most police officers still use a common sense approach to situations.

It's probably not legal and depends on which officier stops you if he/she makes an issue of it. Whoever took yours you can bet wasn't deserving of using a handicap placard.

It also irks me when someone uses a legal handicap placard when the handicapped person is not in the vehicle be it car or cart. I know it is hard to tell if a person is truly handicapped but when a person exits a vehicle and sprints into a store while parked in a handicapped zone it is a pretty good indication that he/she does not own the placard. Even when the handicapped person is in the vehicle but does not exit it and another person gets out and walks briskly into the store. Rant over!

;BigApplause: EXCELLENT RANT

As my father was disabled and used a wheelchair for a number of years I totally agree. We always had to pull up to a door and unload and then park wherever we could as there was never a handicapped space available because of people completely able to to walk with no crutches or assistance of any kind much less in need of a wheel chair. If people can do the 50 yard dash to the store they should not have a handicap placard and then a lot of times the handicapped person is not even in the vehicle. Obviously this is another well intention-ed program that is totally out of control.

Maybe the person that took the handicap card thought you were NOT
handicapped and out of anger took it and tossed it in the garbage.

I agree with MikeV and others . I'm on oxygen 24/7 and can hardly walk . When I see someone come out of the store with 2-3 bags of food with a sprint I wonder if that person is really handy caped.

In some states it's a felony for a doctor to sign an application for a permit knowing the person doesn't really need it.

Well said. I have no doubt that thousands of Villagers that do not use the handicap system would qualify to do so. Sad thing is, there are 1000's that use it that do not qualify. Like so many well intended programs this one is a wonderful and needed program, unfortunately it is poorly enforced, therefore, highly abused. If you qualify, yet leave the spot open for more needy that you, I stand and salute you.
If you abuse the system for your own selfish desires, well, let's just say you do not deserve my respect.
