If I owned a restaurant I would want to know. It's much easier to correct the cleaning crew than to explain to a court how all of the customers developed food born illnesses.
Thats why one should speak to the manager right away......not later.

Once I saw the lady butcher, I brought it to her attention.....

She replied, "Oh, it must be a specialty item". I told her that I didn't think so as we knew what Polish kielbasi should look like and have never seen it black.

She went back and spoke to the head butcher at Price Chopper and came back with this story........."The meat is shipped packed in some sort of chemicals to keep it from turning from pink to black and this package must have sprung a leak"...........that didn't make me feel any better.

They removed it....but I kept thinking what if some really elderly person with bad eyesight came along and bought it. I don't think they'd care at all.

If you go really early at about 6 a.m.........the floors by the butcher's area are filthy and it can be mind boggling to see expired cheeses and such in their worst appearance........not to mention meat on its way out before the butcher has a chance to remove it..........who knows what they treat it with or what they then do with it.

I guess we will never know what goes on behind closed doors in restaurants or supermarkets.

Buffets in general can be iffy for one's health, if they keep the stuff longer than is necessary and just keep stirring it around.
I wouldn't go there !

I don't know if one should not eat there. I personally would ask to speak to the manager on duty at that moment. This way if you explain what you saw just minutes before, they can immediately tell the staff the problem and it could be corrected right then and there. Also then the staff can not place blame on someone else if it is the next day or even next shift.

Post I understand

Missypie I understand your point however our guest was unconfortable with a possible confrontation and I wanted to honor their concern. I did let them walk ahead as we left and I stopped and spoke to the man who was acting as the greeter and explained to him our concern and observations. He said he would speak with the Manager and I felt that was enough. I don't recall ever
having to talk to a restaurant manager or employee because of a concern with sanitary conditions.

I really don't think managers care. Only owners care.

I recently was in a restaurant and when the busser cleared the table next to use, he dumped all of the leftover food, dirty dishes, dirty silverware, dirty napkins, squeeze mustard and ketchup containers and salt an pepper shakers all into the same filthy tub. When I told our waitress, she almost gagged and said I should speak to the manager.

So, I spoke to the manager, and he said, "....oh we do that all the time and then we wash off the mustard, ketchup, salt and pepper containers before we put them back on the table.

HOG WASH!

Maybe someone should just email this thread...would scare the heck out of me if I were the owner. To not go back there based on something that someone saw once isn't fair. I think I would have told the kids...then the manager...then a letter to the owner. It would be terrible to have a place like that closed down because of an unclean reputation. We ate there on our lifestyle visit and it was ok..nothing fantastic but pleasant..unfortunately, I did make a salad!

Without a doubt the manager should have been notified immediately. Not the host, not the buss person, not the guy who delivers your drinks.
There is no need for a confrontation, simply state the facts to the boss, making sure to note his or her name and use it in the conversation. If you're not satisfied with the response don't be bashful. Take it to the next level.
I've never understood the reluctance to escalate an obvious problem to management. Like another poster stated, I never send food back to the kitchen but I never hesitate to voice disapproval when I receive poor service, poor quality food or improper food handling. Nothing emotional, no screaming, no nit picking, just the facts.

I think emailing this thread will do the trick.

I can't get it out of my mind. YUCK YUCK YUCK. and as my grandmother would say,

Ahhchy...pronounced Ah-key. I think it was some kind of German word

It was always when you had messy hands...or worse.

Default Katy belles is filthy

Katy belles is filthy. Just look at the outside dining at the sidewalk that the tables set on in the fence inclosed area has not been power washed in years. You can tell what it could look like by looking at the outside eating area next door. The doors going into the building from the same area have grease an dirt all over them along with peeling paint. Look at the drink coasters trying to level the tables up. The catsup bottles are not refrigerated after they are opened as it says on the bottle that they should be. The ash trays are always filthy with wet cigarette butts, so they have sat overnite. Katy Bells is last white elephant that TV owns. The restrooms always have at least one stall that is "out of order". This is a place that has had no renovations since opening. This is another example of the general trend of attitude of letting spanish springs of dying on the vine. Look at all the vacant buildings on the main square.

I don't believe there is a general conspiracy to let Spanish Springs die. Other restaurants and businesses are clean and up to date. The one time I took guests to Katy Belle's the noise from the band was deafening and the food was worse than mediocre and the place was filthy. I will never go back.

The other two restaurants still run by the developer; The Lighthouse and Cane Garden are two of the best run restaurants here. I don't know how Katie Belles is run or whether it is now leased. Running a restaurant appears to be a very time consuming and difficult job. It isn't done well everywhere for sure. I have only been there twice in three years. Katie Belles must have management problems.

I wish someone (who knew how) would forward this thread to Janet Tutt. She would get it going to the right desk, I would guess. OR to the health department.

Or...does anyone know how to get the email of the manager? With the force of TOTV, at least we could make concerns known....and give him/her just a small headache. The lack of good management there is just plain wrong, with people looking for a job!!
