Default Too much trash by Builders

I am not sure if it is just my location, however the builders appear to have no regard to emptying their vehicles of trash (bottles, chairs, paper products, plastic, cigarette butts, chicken bones from their lunch, cans, etc.).

The place is beginning to look like a dump. I will be glad when they are done in my area, but whomever is supposed to monitor this, is asleep at the job.

I pick up my property every day of their trash that blows on to my property as well as watch them drive over my lawn without any regard for the neighboring houses.

I too pick personal as well as construction trash from my yard every day. I have no basis to compare if it is better or worse than before. However my lawn service tells me it has never been like this before and construction crews are not being held to previous standards.

I thought it was messy too when we had moved into our place and there were other homes still being build nearby. We had a lot of building products in front and back yard every day along with fast food cups, trays etc.

We usually picked up as much as possible every day and on a couple of occasions I did see a worker picking up items from lawns.

Trucks were backing on to our lawn every day and causing damage and for some reason they thought it ok to park their vehicles right accross our driveway blocking access.

We were told to expect this, so it came as no surprise. However, I also feel it should not be left to the homeowner to have to pick up the mess left by the workers.

When I saw a rat run through the trash left on the empty lot next to us I called the Villages and they sent a bulldozer to raze the lot. It was kept neater after that.

Have any of you called Janet Tutt to report the conditions?

Default same here in Pinellas - not the pistine village I signed up for...

I think the fix could be very simple - a covered trash can placed on each lot by the "Builder" -- and assign some one to be responsible for trash pick up twice a week -- to me this is not too extreme and would greatly help the situation - here in Pinellas twice a day I pick beer cans, cig. butts, chip bags, etc from lawn.. all of my doughnuts that are placed roadside are filled to the top with dust swept from road by sweeper sweeping dirt from road to finished lawns. Yes a little miffed by the disregard of some workers - Not all of them!!!

To me this is temporary inconvenience for permanent improvement ( the houses around me being complete ) and does not rise to the level of any report or complaint. Was merely commenting on my experience in response to the OP.

If you can, talk to the builder. Crews are not supposed to dump their trash. I agree that I would hesitate in calling TV -- it could cost someone their job. However, I also think crews should be responsible and not leave their trash to be blown around.

One day, I picked up all trash I could see and dumped it into the back of the pick up (nicest truck that was parked there) and simply said, "Your guys left this in my yard." Oddly, never saw a bit of trash after that.

We have all had some of this happen if we lived in new areas. The thing to remember is that it will be a memory in six months.

Default Everyone needs to pick up after themselves

It doesn't matter how much we love our homes and the fact that the builders are trying to complete them in the newer areas.....they should still be accountable for picking up after themselves. This is not the county dump. So,if I'm in a hurry to put an addition on my home it will be ok for me to trash my neighbors yard because I'm doing something good for my house? I don't think so. Everyone is responsible for themselves.

You know what? We have all gone thru this. Eight years ago there was trash all over my neighborhood. Houses were built and sold and the trash disappeared.
No need to report anything to anybody............................just pick it up!
This too will pass..............

The areas that are being "blitzed" with construction (currently Pinellas and Collier) are simply covered with trash and the flotsam and jetsam of hundreds of workers. I live on a corner lot in Pinellas and I'm amazed at the amount of trash for all endeavors that accumulates in my yard on a single workday. I used to pick it up but soon realized that it would all reappear tomorrow. Now, some blows in, some blows out, the total stays about the same. And now let me tell you about the workers and drivers who think my yard is an extension of the roadway...............

I pick up daily as well, and just assume it's just the way it is until all the building is done in a few months. That said, it doesn't have to be this way. I see workers everyday take a drink out of a cup and throw it off a roof, etc. Last week when we had high winds, our entire street looked like a dump, crap was blowing everywhere. Several folks have had their lawns rutted out and when they called the warranty dept. they told them to wait until the build was over and they would take care of replacing sod (that's fine as long as someone hasn't damaged a sprinkler head) by driving over it. I agree, a trash can or dumpster would help a lot, but would require workers to police the areas daily which isn't going to happen. When I'm out picking up trash a lot of the workers just smile or snicker, so I assume they think it's funny. It will be over soon……hang in there!

Yes, we do need to call someone to deal with it! I picked it up in my yard for a few weeks and got tired of it. I called The Home Warranty department because they were the people I called for everything else for my new house. The woman said she would have the construction site supervisor talk to his workers. The trash in my yard stopped immediately.

Too much trash by builders is no doubt a well established complaint to VCCD SLCDD while I abhor the mess I know that an since the inception and continuum of building here. In fact for every one of my moves it was to a new area were building was rampart.

What posters describe is accurate. However from the point of view of the builders and their crew focus is on their finished product and the key factor finishing as fast as possible.

Residents are all amassed at how quickly a village goes up. And the last think builders do is well clean up.

I am by nature a neatnik but also a realist and I know that an omelet cannot be made without breaking a few eggs.
