You used common sense when you broke the law.

Not sure if I posted this message here on this thread about roundabouts but here goes:

I for one think since TV installed these traffic lanes/roundabouts it's TV responsibility to advise owners/renters on the correct way to properly navigate through and around them.

Would a renter or a new home owner have the resources or knowledge to find out or where to go for the local laws. I doubt that is at the top of there list when they arrive. However it should be to keep and protect our residents. God forbid if a grandparent is in a wreck with a young grandchild sitting in the car seat as the car plows into it. (MAY THIS NEVER HAPPEN).

So why cant TV who demand to know who you are to get a resident or a guest card whether you own or rent require you attend a short class on how to drive here in TV roundabouts. How about someone start a poll here at TOTV and lets see what members think about it.

If we get a large response perhaps we can take it to TV office in charge?

Where only talking about a 10 minute class folks.

Arrow X Marks the Spot!

I was hit by someone just like X. I was in the left lane going straight and she decided to turn left from the right lane (instead of going straight). And she rammed into me. The arrows in my lane (left) pointed to a left turn or straight. While the arrows in her lane (right) pointed straight ahead. So, I was baffled when the policeman did not issue her a ticket. She had clearly rammed into me!!!

Now those of you on this board that know me, know I had quite a few choice words for her and the cop. He was very polite and handed us both brochures. What! A brochure! Really???? She clearly made an illegal left hand turn! I pointed the arrows out to him, which he replied were "only a suggestion". OMG! How nuts is that????

Well, when it came to insurance time, I was completely vindicated. The woman's insurance had to pay they said "because of the police report!" I was very happy, as she kept saying I hit her. The only way I could have hit her is if I was driving sideways!!! hahah! Anyway, I'm very leary in the roundabouts now and thank you to the officer (for putting up with my rage) and writing out the accident report correctly.

Hope this wasn't the same person as your "X". We had $1865.00 in damages, but at least HER insurance company had to pay it!

Seems to me that you weren't going straight, you were turning right from the left hand lane. Bad idea ! ! Lines in the road or not, it's still a bad idea.

Bad idea? Well I guess to be safe you could just enter the circle as a single then you may not have to worry about it. But going straight was within her rights as the insurance company verified. I would have given the brochure back to the officer and told him I know it already, save a tree.

It all depends on the circle and agency on site. If there is damage it has to be FHP. Their opinion differs from SCSO. Need to make all circles the same. You also need to be aware of the other drivers in the circle, never assume you have the right of way, better safe than sorry..
According to the Trooper that came to the incident we had at that circle on Morse and Odell by 466a, if you are in the left hand lane you can go either direction, and if your in the right hand lane, you can go either direction. Unless there are solid lines as with the cirlce at Bonita and Morse.

Two lane roundabouts are a poor and dangerous design. They are counter intuitive and should all be one lane. The problem is some are used to intersect one or more two lane roads... a bad idea. Even if all lanes entering and exiting a roundaabout are two lanes just like the round about itself, they are still confusing and dangerous, especially when you are mixing cars, golf carts, trucks, and bikes.
One lane roundabouts are fun and effective. Keep them on one lane ( in each direction) roads and mark them as one lane. Problem solved.

Sure it was within her rights but look what it got her. Still a bad idea ! !
