Some time back (end of 2021?) WVLG obviously changed their programming. Instead of All Sixties All The Time (with a little 70's and rarely 80's tossed into the mix), we instead got Rod Stewart, Queen, Gloria Gaynor, Dire Straits, Santana, Boston, The Bangles, etc. etc.: all heavy on the 70s and moderate 80s pop music. IMO it was designed to appeal to the new class of retirees: people who came of age in the 70s and early 80s. In other words, people who MAY end up settling here in The Bubble. Most if not all prospective retirees ("customers") visit the squares, and if they hear music coming from the speakers that they can identify with; music from their youth and young adulthood rather than the stuff that Mom and Dad listened to--well, it will obviously promote the image that TV is trying to sell. Personally I don't mind it, though I was never big on disco and too much Bee Gees and Donna Summer is not my cup of tea. I do miss WVLG's once-a-week show; three hours of The Sixties at Six, Seventies at Seven and Eighties at Eight", and I don't mind 'em reaching back in time for stuff from the fifties and even forties. One thing I wish they'd do (and I plan on calling them to suggest it) is to purchase broadcast rights to the old John Doremus show "Patterns in Music", which was aired once a week up to about eight years ago on a local (for me, at the time) radio station KNXR out of Rochester, MN. The music was mid-20th Century but what made the show so attractive to me, other than Mr. Doremus' hypnotic voice, was his incredibly deep knowledge of the music he played as well as the history behind it. An excellent show and one that I think many TV'ers would welcome. But hey. It's marketing, and if TV is trying to appeal to the younger retiree crowd I doubt we'll hear it. |

I guess the point is this news, entertainment, propanda whatever you want to call is based in division.
It's tearing not only this country but the world apart. I feel TV is contributing to this destruction and hate in society by broadcasting divesive and controversial news over speakers. Do we really want to hear all the gloom and doom in such a positive and wonderful retirement community? We all have phones with notifications and a unlimited supply of news available, why cramp in down our throat in the Squares, pools etc. It doesn't stop at TV. I literally had to turn the golf off on Golf Channel yesterday because as you may or not know the Golf Channel is owned by NBC. 1/2 of the commercials were based in promoting MSNBC and in the most specific way with actual political conversations, no it would be no better if FOX owned the Golf Channel and excessively promoted their news channels. I don't need to hear about politics during Golf from any news organization, some watch Golf to escape the inundation of political news or just news in general. I've been watching the Golf Channel for decades and they never jammed this amount of political news junk prior. It seems this year is when they turned to using it as a platform to push a certain news agenda. Personally I think PGAT viewership is going to take a hit with this new form of political commercials. Whatever happen to car and Rolex commercials? Even the regular commercials are more virtue signaling than trying to sell a product. To sum up it's just disgusting to see how these people use selective tragedies to further divide us. Rant off. |

I actually don't pay attention to it anymore. It doesn't aggravate me...it's almost like "white noise". If you don't want to listen to it---perhaps at home you have a choice. In the community---we're not in a regular town. It's a planned community and this is just one of the "perks" of the developer. With the broad-brush----our culture is one that has a need to be entertained. Noise to fill the quiet. Think about your own habits. Do you play music at home all day? Do you listen to favored "news" shows? OR----do you have the t.v. on with whatever interests you?? Guess the OP can call the Development office and pose his questions about WVLG to them.

That 5 minute break seems to be current news items. Should not be confused with the talking heads on Fox.

Having worked in radio, the syndicated programming is generally free to the local stations because the national advertising
is broadcast prior to local advertising. Even baseball games. As for the talking heads, it’s only their opinion and very little substantial fact. CNN is fixated on one person and past event, Fox is obsessed with one person, etc. the only news broadcast is at the top of the hour. I’m finding MSNBC, OAN and Newsmax are a bit more mellow. My opinion. |
