Of course, it has to be fairly loud for me to hear it, especially if I'm in the water. I found it to be a mixed blessing. I enjoyed the music while swimming, although not every selection was a favorite, the overall mix was OK by me.

While FOX news is not my "go to", as far as I could tell, the news was pretty straight news, as opposed to political commentary disguised as news and defended as entertainment.

My take on this: . Much of what goes on in TV is developer driven, and directed towards marketing of TV. This was going on before I was here, and I was well aware of that fact before I bought. I like it more than I don't like it, and I strongly suspect more people like it than don't like it. It's part of the culture here. Not my favorite part, but it's part of it, and while there are parts of the culture here I'm not crazy about, there is so much I do like about TV that, like most of us, I accept the parts I'm not wild about so I can enjoy the parts I am wild about.

Now, let's get back to Tommy Roe, and "Oh Sweet Pea"...
Wise words.

Some time back (end of 2021?) WVLG obviously changed their programming. Instead of All Sixties All The Time (with a little 70's and rarely 80's tossed into the mix), we instead got Rod Stewart, Queen, Gloria Gaynor, Dire Straits, Santana, Boston, The Bangles, etc. etc.: all heavy on the 70s and moderate 80s pop music. IMO it was designed to appeal to the new class of retirees: people who came of age in the 70s and early 80s. In other words, people who MAY end up settling here in The Bubble. Most if not all prospective retirees ("customers") visit the squares, and if they hear music coming from the speakers that they can identify with; music from their youth and young adulthood rather than the stuff that Mom and Dad listened to--well, it will obviously promote the image that TV is trying to sell.

Personally I don't mind it, though I was never big on disco and too much Bee Gees and Donna Summer is not my cup of tea. I do miss WVLG's once-a-week show; three hours of The Sixties at Six, Seventies at Seven and Eighties at Eight", and I don't mind 'em reaching back in time for stuff from the fifties and even forties. One thing I wish they'd do (and I plan on calling them to suggest it) is to purchase broadcast rights to the old John Doremus show "Patterns in Music", which was aired once a week up to about eight years ago on a local (for me, at the time) radio station KNXR out of Rochester, MN. The music was mid-20th Century but what made the show so attractive to me, other than Mr. Doremus' hypnotic voice, was his incredibly deep knowledge of the music he played as well as the history behind it. An excellent show and one that I think many TV'ers would welcome.

But hey. It's marketing, and if TV is trying to appeal to the younger retiree crowd I doubt we'll hear it.

Any other time, when walking thru the squares, I must just tune it out (married 41 years, I've learned to do that quite well... ), as I don't even notice it... I guess I'm just not looking to be offended...

At the pool, I bring my own ear buds and listen to the music I want to hear on my iPhone...

Maybe they should just stick to music if you're going to have speakers up all over the place.

Same thing at the TV gyms, why is there huge TV'S with cable news on? It's a gym put sports or nature on stop inudating us with news. The TV'S are so big it's impossible to ignore.

As a kid the news came on at 6pm-7pm unless there was some emergency.

Even going out to eat all you hear is news conversations.

When did we as a society become so addicted to news?

I can't even watch golf without being blasted with repetive commercials for news organizations.

Give us a break with all this so called news.

Don't turn this into politics as it's not allowed, this is just about the sheer amount of news that is bestowed on us.
Most of the news is bad or political, so I do not watch or listen. Put in ear pods and listen to my own awesome music instead. Problem solved.

I guess the point is this news, entertainment, propanda whatever you want to call is based in division.

It's tearing not only this country but the world apart.

I feel TV is contributing to this destruction and hate in society by broadcasting divesive and controversial news over speakers.

Do we really want to hear all the gloom and doom in such a positive and wonderful retirement community?

We all have phones with notifications and a unlimited supply of news available, why cramp in down our throat in the Squares, pools etc.

It doesn't stop at TV.

I literally had to turn the golf off on Golf Channel yesterday because as you may or not know the Golf Channel is owned by NBC.

1/2 of the commercials were based in promoting MSNBC and in the most specific way with actual political conversations, no it would be no better if FOX owned the Golf Channel and excessively promoted their news channels. I don't need to hear about politics during Golf from any news organization, some watch Golf to escape the inundation of political news or just news in general.

I've been watching the Golf Channel for decades and they never jammed this amount of political news junk prior. It seems this year is when they turned to using it as a platform to push a certain news agenda.

Personally I think PGAT viewership is going to take a hit with this new form of political commercials.

Whatever happen to car and Rolex commercials?

Even the regular commercials are more virtue signaling than trying to sell a product.

To sum up it's just disgusting to see how these people use selective tragedies to further divide us.

Rant off.

Very true. What you might not know is that after many years running the extremely successful Golf AM tour, they dropped sponsorship in 2020. Why????? Because the mask loving germophobes at NBC (and their lawyers) did not want to be liable for bringing golfers together at tournaments, even though social distancing at these events was more than adequate to provide a reasonable degree of safety. All I can say is:

It's difficult to reply without getting political but that's exactly why they play this station. When I first came here and heard the piped in music and news, I joked about subliminal messaging. Sometimes I think it's for real. Most villagers follow this news outlet and believe what they are told.

I actually don't pay attention to it anymore. It doesn't aggravate me...it's almost like "white noise". If you don't want to listen to it---perhaps at home you have a choice. In the community---we're not in a regular town. It's a planned community and this is just one of the "perks" of the developer. With the broad-brush----our culture is one that has a need to be entertained. Noise to fill the quiet. Think about your own habits. Do you play music at home all day? Do you listen to favored "news" shows? OR----do you have the t.v. on with whatever interests you?? Guess the OP can call the Development office and pose his questions about WVLG to them.

As a 20-year veteran of commercial broadcasting let me explain. There are many types of radio stations--Top 40, Country, Easy Listening, News/Talk, etc. Then there is "Full Service". I think VOGA tries to be as much of a full-service station as it can w/o having local news/sports departments. That means hooking up with a radio network--Fox, ABC, NBC, etc. That five minutes of news at the top of the hour might be the only news some people get all day. Plus it keeps you apprised of any new developments as opposed to a 30-60 minute summary at the end of the day. There are probably fifty stations in Orlando as well as stations in Ocala and every other town of any size in Central Florida. Twist that dial and find one you like.

That 5 minute break seems to be current news items. Should not be confused with the talking heads on Fox.

Having worked in radio, the syndicated programming is generally free to the local stations because the national advertising
is broadcast prior to local advertising. Even baseball games.
As for the talking heads, it’s only their opinion and very little substantial fact. CNN is fixated on one person and past event, Fox is obsessed with one person, etc. the only news broadcast is at the top of the hour. I’m finding MSNBC, OAN and Newsmax are a bit more mellow. My opinion.

Well....MSNBC didn't just pony up 3/4 of a BILLION $$$$$ for fabricated stories. And MSNBC isn't calling their viewers idiots and morons and referencing trailer parks they live in. So there........
