Modal pathways marking with white or yellow paint at side and in middle.
I was out partying with some friends in the rain tonight going around in golf carts looking at the various Christmas lights in the Villages and noticing how hard it is to see in the night in the rain the borders of various modal paths. All of our group I talked to also had the problem of how difficult the paths are to see at night when they is a downpour especially if you have lights shining on the droplets on the windshields. |

Don't drive a cart at night in the rain without windshield wipers. (You would think street legal carts would require them) Carts are NOT cars. They have limitations. If it's pouring down wait till it slacks up or pull over till it slacks up. IMO night time speed limit should be reduced to 15 mph. You are blinded by light cause some install bright head lights that don't shine down, but straight in the eyes of on coming traffic. Sure they can see better, but the blind everybody the meet.

We were in a group of six golf carts with 12 people. So kind of hard to just corral them and turn back. We did stop as a group a number of times to make sure we had the train intact. Hans Mantel's work down in Dunkirk Trail in Hadley is well worth a trip. Cars probably would be safer to get there if it is raining heavily. |

Perhaps no one else has noticed, but even in an auto with wipers and bright beams when it's raining hard the white/yellow center and side lines are difficult to see. Now add that most older people(myself included at 62)have poor night vision and you begin to see the real problem.
The best solution would be to not drive your cart at night when it's raining. The most expensive solution would be a lighted center and side lines. Next best would be raised dots like in use in California and rumble strips on the sides. Personally I opt for the most sensible of not using the cart at night when it's raining. It's not about what you want to do, but about what utilizes the most common sense. |

of the title "cheap" because they've decided on common sense over those who feel the need to correct every little problem by throwing money at a problem is a cheap uneducated shot. There are more adult solutions, but they require a bit more maturity than some can sum up....like staying off the paths in a vehicle ill equipped to travel at night in inclement weather.

There was very light rain when we got to the Mallory Hill Country Club around 4:30 PM. We left around 6:15 PM and the rain started heavy around 7:15 PM. Dunkirk Trail in Hadley is a good distance from Mallory Hill Country Club. I cannot see the common sense in just saying that if the roads are not safe in Central Florida just stay off them. Should you not make the roads safe to drive in any kind of weather? Like painting the edge of the road so you can see where it is? This is a problem in good weather as well. It is a lot worse in heavy rain. How about the 6 AM golf cart drives in the light rain when you also have to watch out for joggers who are dressed in black? Not a good idea for joggers to dress in anything but white before dawn but they do. Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) - FHWA Last edited by Taltarzac725; 12-16-2015 at 09:27 AM. |

Simple solution to weather impaired driving: slow down to a speed you can safely see the path ahead. There is no law that says you have to drive 20 mph at all times. No new laws and no new paint needed! Just adapt to changing conditions.

Cannot see why the Villages could not get funding from the State of Florida or even the Federal Government to get money for paint for the modal paths??? It does not necessarily have to come from the VCDD property tax payers. We have a population of what around 110,000? http://www.cnbc.com/2015/03/26/the-v...etro-area.html Quote:

Not considering if it’s the right or wrong thing to do, the political will to take up this issue is gone. Until a large number of accidents occur that can be attributed to the lack of stripping, nothing will happen.

That is what the situation usually is. I am often in the house whenever it is raining and rarely take the golf cart out if the weather is bad in any way. But, sometimes I have to do the social thing and go with the flow. And, who can really tell which neighborhood in the Villages it might rain in the next few hours?

I understand that in the early days of TV driving a golf cart at night was prohibited. I'm not suggesting that we go back to no night driving in your cart but just making a statement. This issue has several Threads and hundreds of opinions and posts and even a traffic engineer's report. My guess is that those that want stripping done will in the end finally get it done.
