Or, suppose you take your gun to your pool inside a birdcage? Are you still in your house? Make an innocent mistake and you could be arrested and jailed without a concealed carry license. It also provides another picture ID card. Just my opinion.
Agree with the above post. I have a license to carry a concealed firearm in Massachusetts, but not Florida. Although I have had a license for a long time, I have never carried a firearm in public. I try very hard to never go anywhere where it would be necessary. There are only three reasons I ever carry a pistol. When walking the dog in the woods in case we come upon a pack of coyotes, which has happened more than once. When tracking an injured deer, because it is much easier than carrying a long gun. And when going to my neighbors abandoned gravel pit to target shot.

Many of the places that have had mass shooting in the past might be considered a place where a gun was not necessary. A movie theater in Denver, Las Vegas at an outdoor concert, a cafeteria in Killeen, TX, a church in San Antonio, a McDonalds in San Diego, a Synagogue in Pittsburgh, a stock trading firm in Atlanta, etc etc not to mention numerous schools where a concealed weapon is prohibited.

Whenever I'm at a place whether in TV, in Orlando or Ocala, and it's area with a large gathering, the mall, the squares, a movie theater, MVP gym, I always try to be aware of my surrounds. A bystander just last month saved several lives when he attacked the shooter at a yoga club in Tallahassee. I don't take any place for granted.

You or anyone should never know someone is carrying a gun. A person who has been properly trained (and does hold a concealed carry) would not be flashing a gun. That action is one that is taught very early in a concealed carry class. The training in FL is not exactly strict and was actually scary to me. (permits to carry handed out like candy at Halloween!). One is taught to never draw their gun unless their life is threatened, a dog running in the yard is very far from a threat.

Sad that most of the 'gun free' zones are the first places that are attacked.

Just wondering why one would arm themselves when talking to a neighbor about their dog.
So glad I do not a have neighbor like this guy. ( or should I buy a gun, just in case?)
I look at a gun the same way that I look at a seat belt. It's something that you hope you never have to use, but you put it one very day in case an unlikely event happens. If you wear your seatbelt every time you drive your car and you own a gun, you'd be silly not to have it all the time. You never know when you're going to be in a car accident and never know if you're going to have to defend yourself.

So it's not that the guy armed himself because he was going to talk to a neighbor about a dog. He's probably armed at all times.

That being said, unless his life was being threatened, he had no business exposing his gun or threatening his neighbor with it. He should have been arrested and spend some time in jail for that. I would also be in favor of revoking his CC permit.

Owning and carrying a gun comes with a lot of responsibility. This guy showed that he's irresponsible enough to have his right to carry revoked.

Around 66% of TV residents have concealed carry permits. How many of them have a gun on their person at any particular is up in the air.

Personally, I don't understand why anyone who has a CC permit wouldn't carry a gun at all times.

You're not considering that there may be several people openly carrying guns. In that case, the bad guy s probably not going to shoot anyone unless he's interested in committing suicide.

I'm not a big fan of open carry, but for every example, against, there's an argument for.

So you believe that nothing bad ever happens in TV? I agree it's a pretty safe place, but the need to use a gun can come up anywhere.

You might also consider that TV is such a safe place because so many people are carrying guns. Bad guys know this and are more reluctant to commit crimes here.

Nothing paranoid about being able to protect yourself in a very unlikely event. Do you only where you seat belt when you think that you might get in an accident? Is it paranoid to wear a seatbelt when going to pick up your mail?

I would probably shoot myself in the foot with a loaded pistol if I carried one around like that. Or somewhere a lot more painful.

We are quite safe here in the Villages for the most part and responsible and trained people have concealed or not concealed weapons on them.

I never carry loaded weapon anywhere unless I am going to use the thing for target practice. But I do always treat it as if it were loaded with live rounds. Never pointing it at any person.

I got shot by a "friend" when I was about 14 with a BB gun in the left pinky. He had been pointing it at my eye and I convinced him to fire at the space between my fingers instead. He missed. I do know what it is like to have a loaded weapon pointed at my face. That is not something you ever forget even if this was just a BB gun. It could have taken my eye out easily.

I abandoned these "friends" not too soon after that as they were very prone to violence against one another and loved guns, knives and bows. Found books and libraries!!!

As I said before, I have not needed a gun to protect myself since I got out of service. If I needed a gun to protect myself, I would live somewhere else.
