As requested by YankeeQuilter, I did manage to swing 209.96 and obtain a few pics before the light ran out. The roof is complete, interior framed and the drywall is approximately 60% complete. Sorry about the quality of the pics but I was almost photographing by streetlight...:1rotfl:

Your home is coming along very nicely. I'll try to do a better job with the pics!

Your Honor, I have been following your thread since you first posted on ToV. My significant other, Jim and I are coming to TV on February 5 in hopes of buying land and starting our dream home, hopefully in Gilchrist. I keep up on the activities of Gillyland and was wondering if it would be possible to meet you and the lovely Associate Mayor while we are down? :bigbow: If you care to respond, you can reach me at Sharonmmills@gmail.com. I have really enjoyed all the helpful suggestions, the cast of characters and the many, many pictures. Hopeing to hear from you. Regards . . . . . SMills

Hi SMills! Oh my dear...you have no idea of the cast of characters that you will encounter in GillyLand...:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

Janice and I and I'm sure our cast of characters would love to meet you when you get here. Please let us know the specifics and we'll try to have a Gilly Gathering for y'all.

All you readers of this Thread are going to have to take a break.

As the Finance Officer of the Court, I’m waiving all entry fees tonight. :a040:

Wow, :cus:

Just been off the thread a couple of days and have about a dozen pages to read!

Welcome to the newcomers that have appeared and we look forward to meeting you eventully :bigbow:

Very concerned about the report from the Finance Director that he has spent Jimbo's bail money :cus:

We will have to discuss sanctions with the Mayor and Lady Mayoress (and anyone else we can rope in)

Had a smashing time (see Mr Mayor it is easy to use properly) with the Mayor, starting a brew of English Bitter, but we are a little concerned that it may be a little too much for colonial palates brought up on Corona - still nothing ventured, nothing gained. :agree:

See you all tonight :bigbow:

Hi ya'll, I did design on 12/26 and close 4/1. You are in the newest of the new sections! There is an incredible amount of stress in this kind of move, for me a total lifetime shift. the TV teams do not match up with the fear and terror stories your friends will offer about building a house. You can almost fall backwards and relax. Just a couple of exceptions might be to save $ on doing it yourself with fans, fixtures, appliances. otherwise you are really in good hands and so your friends who can't believe can come and buy their own place!
hope to meet you soon,
Kitty, 2961 amherst way

Hi Kitty, thanks so much for the welcome. We are trying to relax but we have been prepping for the design for five months and keep thinking we may forget something like so many on posts have said they have. But with all the great advice we think we will at least cover the major things. LOTS AND LOTS OF CHOICES, THOUGH. But we are just glad we got a lot that satisfies our needs, and then we can just relax and enjoy the life. We hope to meet you soon too, and thanks again...Marcy and Bruce Snell:coolsmiley:

We wish we were there already so we could join you for the fun at Evans Prairie. It seems as much fun in the villages as it is in New Orleans where I was born and raised !!!! And I spent many an evening on Bourbon Street...

Where were all you sitting and who was there? My husband and I along with another couple were at Evans Prairie around 6:30 for dinner and thought I would see the place taken over by a Gillibration with all you rockin rollers over there. :)

Thinking of all of you having a great evening at Evan's Prairie. Wish we were there, hope to be down in April or earlier. So many homes are making real progress now and some soon to be made design meetings. Welcome to everyone new to the post.

Take care, Linda and Rich

We were there..........but never before 8:00. And some fashionably late at 8:30-ish.

Great group tonight. I am so enjoying our neighbors. Feels sort of like a wonderful extended family.

Hello Everyone: We want to introduce ourselves. We are Bruce and Marcy Snell. We are very excited to finally be doing our design appointment on Thursday, January 24. We have waited almost five months for this appointment, and unfortunately could not get an earlier one because we didn't sell or rent our home until about a week ago. WHEW !!! It was really touch and go there for awhile as to whether we would be able to keep our appointment, but we will be arriving a day earlier on January 23 to settle in and check into the new Villa's over in the village of Pinellas. We have been reading most of the posts you been writing for months, and we can't wait to meet some of you and enjoy our new fun lifestyle. I hope we will be accepted since we are not in 209, 210 or 215. We will be building on lot 52 in Section 214 at 3293 Vicksburg Ave. I would like to get on your list I heard that A-4 has been doing, and the mayor and many others (including the infamous "hotrodgirl") sound like a lot of fun. Just can't wait, and would love to maybe say hi while we are down there between January 23-28. Thanks all.

Marcy and Bruce Snell

Marcy and Bruce, Welcome to The Villages and Congratulations on your design appointment. It is a very exciting time. You will find the people of GillyLand very kind and welcoming to all. We actually have a home in The Village of Sanibel and have been included in some activities such as New Years. Unfortunately, we are not yet there full time, but feel like we have made many friends already. We wont be there when you are doing your design meeting, but we have been through it all before. We built an Iris, and are very pleased. Should you have any questions before your design meeting, just drop me a line, would be happy to share our experience. Good luck.

Good morning and thanks for the reply yesterday. Jim and I are taking the auto train down on February 4 and will be staying in the Eleanor, Evelyn (something like that) Villas(?) until we leave on the 11th. I'll keep reading the string and see if you all are planning a get together while we are down and maybe we'll stop by and meet everyone. We love Brownwood, Jim fancies himself as a Virginia cowboy to it is right up his alley!! Jim has a lot in common with you, Your Honor and if you are a Marine all the better. I wish I were there with you all on the 19th for the birthday pary with Hotrodgirl, it's my birthday too!!! We are hoping to build an expanded Gardenia and keeping our fingers crossed that there will be something down there with our name on it that is close to all the fun and cast of characters in Gillyland. Be well, and enjoy another beautiful day in The Villages, we are expecting 4" of snow today!!!

Well, I can't lay claim to being a Devil Dog but I was born on Nov 10th. See if that date rings a bell with Jim.

I just looked at the plot maps for 209 & 210 and there are lots available on the golf course, corners and interiors so please consider moving to GillyLand! It's like a Disney World for adults. Either of these sections will put you right in the middle of things. Sections 211 & 214 will put you just a little farther away but not substantially so. We had a great time a Evans Prairie last night and I would estimate that we had about 20+ people in attendance. The wonderful thing about this neighborhood is, of course, our cast of "characters" of which we have no shortage...:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl: The one thing I do have to caution you about is that Sir John & Lady Wendy (Junction29) now expect a bow or curtsey when receiving the commoners...:bigbow:

We can't wait to meet you guys!

Hi Bruce & Marcy! No worries about being accepted here! Section 214 is still in Gilchrist so you'll be a native of GillyLand! :clap2: Even if you weren't building in one of the gilly sections, you'd still be welcome. We've adopted several "non-natives" and that has worked out quite well for us. We've had three people trade lots from Fernindina to GillyLand just because we're so much fun! :loco: One of the traders is even a Deflocker Flucker (see A-4 Skyhawk for a complete explanation). :1rotfl: But, we were very lucky to get him, his beautiful spouse and charming MIL.

As you might have gathered, we have quite a cast of characters living here with a touch of international flavor and landed gentry from across the pond. Their presence just spices things up for the rest of us. We also have our infamous (HotRodGirl) and the low key (Me!).

Please let us know when you get settled and we will definitely have a GillyBration so you can met us...one and all...:coolsmiley:

Welcome and I'm sure you will be able to find just the lot you want in Gilly. My wife and I took the auto train down for the first time in December. It was such a good experience we are using it once again when we go down for our closing in March. If you haven't done so already I would suggest getting one of the sleeper units as they are better than coach seats. You also get to go to the lounge car between 3 - 4 PM for complimentary wine and cheese. The dinner was also a pleasant surprise. Good luck on your LSV.

Good morning Chief - we are getting the sleeper round trip. that for the tip about the wine and cheese, I didn't know that. I am looking forward to relaxing and let the train fight the traffic! This will be our third trip to TV, we were down in July to see how we could handle the Florida summer and it was cooler down there than in Arlington, VA where we live. This will be our second LSV and this time we are buying! Looking forward to meeting all the Gilly Characters! Have a beautiful day in TV!!

Yes, Marcy is a native New Orleanean and I was born and lived much of my life in Jacksonville, FL, but I also fell in love with NOLA and the French Quarter. So I am an adopted Cajun. Maybe we can travel sometimes to NOLA together and report our "activities" back to the folks in Gillyland, etc. :a040:

Hi Linda and Rich, thanks so much for the warm welcome and the offer to give us advice on building an Iris. Anything you can suggest would be very needed and welcome. We have been going over things for months, and still feel a little unprepared and we are afraid we may miss something. Can you let us know a little bit about the process they are doing now and any suggestions specifically for the Iris?

But Marcy is also a huge fan of the LSU Tigers and Bruce is a huge fan of the Florida State Seminoles because of our alumni status. We are also huge fans of each others teams..we are not a house divided; We are actually a house very much united. And we are, for the most part, very respectful about the other "lesser" teams ! Hi CaclTeacher - I've sent you several texts hoping to meet you before you all move to TV. We are arriving om February 5 and leave on the morning of February 11. We are planning on buying and WVMTNBoy suggests sections 209 or 210. Are you in either of them. I've printed off the maps for both areas and plan on contacting my sales rep on the availability.

Sorry, I am not on the spreadsheet, I didn't think we were far enough along in the process to get on the spreadsheet! Good to hear from you. Hope we can touch base while you are still in NoVA. Regards . . . . :):)

Welcome! We have our design meeting on Tuesday, hopefully our paths will cross.
Speaking of crossed paths, my wife was born and raised in Jax!

As for "caution", we currently live in Atlanta(I'm a native) and you know who we will be rooting for on Sunday!!
We are also big Ga Tech fans, looks like we have a lot to talk about this fall!
Hope to meet up next week.

Thanks for the welcome. Even though the Saints and Falcons are definitely fierce rivals during the season, we have been rooting for the Falcons since we got eliminated from the playoffs. Much rather have someone from our division and the south win then those darn Westerners, San Francisco. As for Georgia Tech (and Georgia for that matter, since they are in LSU's SEC conference), we will have plenty to talk about. But we are use to it because we have many Alabama friends and they have just wiped out LSU the last couple of years. Hope to see you soon.

Husband and daughter will be at the Falcon's game Sunday! Joe is a huge football fan, me I am just a Patriot fan.... We already have a Falcon and a Patriot flag for the soon to be golf cart!!! We had season tickets for GT a few years ago - what a great venue for football! I am sure there will be lots of tailgating next fall, and look forward to meeting all of you!!!

Your Honor - I have looked at the maps for 209 and 210 and was wondering if you know what 209.47 looks like. In 210 there are two lots 210.157 and 210.94? If you any thoughts on these, I would appreciate it. I thought I would have some lot numbers to give to my sales rep before coming down so that he could see if they are still available. Jim and I are looking forward to meeting all the Gilly Characters! Be well and enjoy another beautiful day in TV!! We are waiting for our snow to arrive this afternoon. . . .

Hi:

I am at 210.90 so 94 is only a couple lots away. Send me a PM with your email and I will forward a sales plot map for section 210, which gives the dimensions of the lots.

Great, because we are huge football fans, both Pro and college, also. Look forward to tailgating and/or watching games together in the villages !!

Bruce and Marcy, Gillys soon to be in 214

Appreciate the support, I would do the same if it was reversed. Since we follow ACC football, let's make a deal, I won't talk about that team in Gainesville and you don't talk about that that team in Athens :)

When Tech was in the SEC, I used to follow Tech and LSU. Dietzel and his White, Gold and Chinese Bandits!! What memories! :)

Thanks all.

Hello Marcy and Bruce. Hope to get to meet you when you are down here in TV. We have not moved in yet but are closing on 2/20. We are in 209-41. Have a safe trip. Gayle and Mike

Things are coming along quite nicely. Your interior is painted and the entrance and closet doors are primed and painted in the living room...:coolsmiley:

I even managed to get a shot out of the living room so you'll know where your lanai is positioned relative to the neighbors.

Hope you enjoy!!

Thanks a bunch for the photos! Sorry I didnt look at my emails, but yesterday was our last day in our home and we signed over the papers for the sale. Today is the closing. Hope all goes well. We are currently staying at a Residence Inn locally.
The house looks great. Isnt it amzing how fast it all goes! We cant wait to get to TV and see all of you. We have three more going away parties in the next week before we leave on the 30th.
I am retired and Mike works part time virtually. Our dog, Beau, scruffy medium sized terrier, will love meeting the Gillyland dogs. Save some partying for us! Gayle and Mike.

Since everyone is talking about football, just wanted to add our names to the list. My husband and I spend most of Saturdays watching college football. Since we will be living in the south, I intend to adopt a team other than my own. Have always like LSU. For obvious reasons, we have great respect for SEC teams. Glad to know we can find folks to get together with on fall weekends who share our passion.

As a northerner, I acquired my love of football in college. However, it seems like football is more like a religion down south. It was a factor in my wanting to live where I knew I'd find other women who worshipped the game as much as I. (Around here I avoid Super Bowl parties cause all the women hang and talk about other things, and I want to watch the game, yet not appear rude. Since that's difficult, I choose to watch with my spouse and avoid the group scene). I anticipate football watching a social activity in TV, despite our exisitng regional alliances.

Who says football is masculine? <LOL>

There's an interesting case going on in my neck of the woods of a co-educational football program in the elementary grades. However, the Archdiocese will not allow a girl who wants to continue to do so beyond fifth or sixth grade.

Personally, I must admit, I wouldn't want my daughter on a football team. Then again, although I love the sport, I might be fearful of my son participating as well.

Although my kids are now grown, people always assumed the athletic one was the boy, when in fact our son excelled in the performing arts (what a voice!) and our daughter was the jock.

We are waiting for our snow to arrive this afternoon. . . .

Hi Guys! I've finally gotten around to taking pics of the lots you requested. I'm slow but usually reliable!

209.47 is four houses away from us in the curve on Kilgore. This really is a nice lot although it is pie shaped meaning that the front of the lot is narrower than the back. It may be hard to put a golf car garage on the house because of the lay of the lot. The elevation also falls away from front to back and this would cause you to have a really nice view from your lanai. It may make the back part have a high wall. The people two houses from you have the same situation and they stretched the garage 5' to make up for the loss of the GC garage. The have a fantastic view facing west from the lanai.

WVMtnBoy
01-20-2013, 11:19 AM
Okay, These pics are of 210.94 which is on the corner of Amherst & Brinkley. It has a west facing lanai which I think will tend to get hot in the summer. It really is a beautiful lot and you may have a glimpse of the golf course through the homes on the other side of the road. That is probably why the lot has a premium of $22K. Either this lot or 209.47 would put you right in the "thick of things" as far as GillyLand goes.

These last pics are 210.57. This is a nice corner lot on Olenda Dr. just past Bluebeard Court. You're literally just over the hill from the 209 lot. It looks like a nice big lot with plenty of room and you shouldn't have any problem putting in a GC garage on either this lot or the other 210 but that's just from a first look. The lot maps that ChiefRose sent you would probably give you a better idea of what may go on the property.

Honestly, they're all nice lots and you probably couldn't go wrong with any of them. My personal choices (in order of preference) are 210.94, 209.47 and 210.157 but that's me. I know you'll pick whatever is right for you!!!

Dear All,
The Greater Gillyland January Birthday Party, kindly hosted by Hodrodgirl went off a treat.

A few new faces appeared and everyone had a great evening with copious quantities of food and drink available, including an excellent Irish beer.

CalcTeacher appled her considerable mathematical ability to help improve my playing card reading skills.

I am now up to about a 80% success rate, once I can get to 99%, its off to Vegas to generate funds for the Gillyland Jimbo2012 Bail Fund, hopefully in sufficient quantity that even our Finance Director, A4-Skyhawk, can't waste it fast enough on Corona.

CalTeachers 'significant other' still looks a little bemused when the subject of Toilet Rolls is mentioned, little does he realise that if it were not for the level headed thinking of His Worship the Mayors, Administrative Departments Administrative Assistant's Assistant, then the Supermarkets around TV would have had a rush on Toilet Paper, that would have undoubtedly left some people caught short.

To cut a long story short, when we first met CalcTeacher and hubby, they had just arrived and were unloading 123 multiple packs of toilet paper (ok, i might be exagerating a little) and of course i immediately thought the worst and said to His Worship the Mayors Administrative Assistant's Assistant "do you think they know something we don't?, is there a shortage of Toilet Paper in Florida? - otherwise why bring 246 multiple packs of toilet paper (ok, i might be exagerating a little)?"

I then went on to say that we could always use the previous edition of the Daily Sun, cut up in to small squares, to which His Worship the Mayors Administrative Assistant's Assistant exclaimed that she wasn't going around with yesterdays headlines imprinted on her nether regions - to which I replied, that it wasn't a problem as no one could read it without a mirror, which just earned me a clip around the ear (English for a flat hand struck forcefully across the top of the head - doesn't really hurt, but it can make one jump a bit)

Anyway, to cut the long story even shorter, we did a quick recon around the local Supermarkets and can reassure everyone in Gillyland that there is no shortage of Toilet Rolls around TV even though CalcTeacher obviously thought there might be to bring 369 packs of multiple Toilet Rolls (ok, I am exagerating a bit) :pepper2::pepper2::pepper2::pepper2::pepper2:

An Urgent investigation has been launched by His Worship the Mayor, after the Head of his Administration Departments Administration Departments, Administration Assistant's Assistant spotted suspicious footprints on the Lot assigned to A4 and his lovely family, this morning;
8955

After forensic examination of the footprints, the Mayor, using his extensive Police experience advised his Head of Administration that they were probably looking for an Adult Male (physically not mentally!) around 6 ft 5", tall, weighing around 285 lbs and with a size 13 shoe.

First suspicions centred around Jimbo2012, but when confronted, his shoe size didn't fit and he had a cast iron alibi, his wife! who confessed to wanting to drop him in it, but in this case, just couldn't

The whole of Gillyland has been mobilised and if this mysterious stranger is seen lurking around the neighbourhood again, either the Mayor or his Head of Administration should be contacted immediately.

Dear All,
The Greater Gillyland January Birthday Party, kindly hosted by Hodrodgirl went off a treat.

Just to clear things up and keep our good name intact: once you've raised 3 girls (and I, the mom, make the 4th woman in the house) you develop habits of buying TP in large quantities at Costco. This habit has been extremely difficult for us to break! We did not mean our actions to give people alarm about a possible TP shortage in Florida! And why do I now think that Ed and I will never live this down? Hahaha!

I feel much better now that you've explained your TP "situation". When we went through design last week we found out that our lot was elegible for a "FREE" tree. We were fearful that you and Ed were into TP'ing peoples property so we inquired about having the tree relocated to the Mayor's property. No deal. So much happens when the sun goes down in Gilchrist 209/210 . . . . . You never know where the tree will end up. I wonder if Millie the dog bites?

oh, here's another tidbit on the tree. I'm 2961 amherst or 210.113. I was told I would be the lucky lot owner to get a live oak. I've lived in FL a long time. Live oaks not on your property are magnificent. On your property: tiny unrakable leaves, millions of acorns, moss drippings, squrrels eating the acorns, eventually limbs thru the house. I think my designer successfully decined the live oak for my property. Lucky me there are a couple of these lovable trees around the pond in view of my property, which was the first thing that made me really want the lot.. BUT they were not on my property where I had to deal with them daily.

They design tomorrow morning and I just found out that they picked a Zinnia model. Good for them. That's 3 of us within 2 blocks of each other in Gilchrist with a Zinnia. After breakfast we ajourned to Gilchrist 210 Lot 117 to admire the lot and their view out the back. WOW !! And then the street party started as half the people on this thread started showing up. So we've got a couple of new GREAT Gilly's. :highfive:

It's cold and I'm hungry. Please bring donuts and some Corona. (no lime) And please don't let Hotrod & the Mayor turn Rosie, Sweetie, and Gracie loose on me. I think I can out run Millie

Saturday Cathy and I went by your house to check things out. We were parked in front and heard what sounded like a leaf blower so we went outside and walked to the other side of the street to check out the back side of our lot when from behind your house comes this radio controlled Heli-gyro flying thingie. It was very low and hovering over the ole Camaro when it jumped towards us a little and then took off towards your house, just missing the roof by a few feet and crashed in the lot in back of your house. A man and a woman ran out there and picked up the pieces, threw everything into their SUV, and took off. I DID NOT SHOOT IT DOWN :plane: but the thought ran through my mind. I guess we'll have to install a bank of surface to air's in here.

Don't forget that the Mayor's Forensic Department also deduced that the individual was an Adult Male (but stressed that they mean't physically not mentally) of around 6' 5" and 285lbs! :pepper2:

Their thinking for this is that no Woman would be this daft and childish, but this is considered to be somewhat debatable by those of us who are married to one! :pepper2:

Although to be fair to Jimbo2012, who had been the chief suspect if not for his shoe size, with the theory you have just put forward it could bring him back into the frame; :pepper2:

No wait a minute, his wife gave him a cast iron alibi, so it can't be him and GillyCriusers believes her 'significant other' when he said it wasn't him, so he is also out of the frame as well - the plot thickens. :pepper2:

If you need anything else, please let me or the Head of the Administrative Dept (Junction29) know...:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

The beauty of that pool is you can walk it through the lanai door, blow it up, fill it with a garden hose in 10 minutes, and it's "Surf's UP". The draw back is if she blows up you'll take out the sliding glass doors and your living room furniture. I think most homeowners policies have a "Stupidity Clause" so be careful.

The Junction29's have 'taken the plunge' and 'splashed out' on a Pool, this momentus decision to spare no expense in following our dream, follows a few minutes of looking in awe this morning at the magnificent olympic sized pool on Kitty's lot and thinking "we ought to have one of those"

After forensic examination of the footprints, the Mayor, using his extensive Police experience advised his Head of Administration that they were probably looking for an Adult Male (physically not mentally!) around 6 ft 5", tall, weighing around 285 lbs and with a size 13 shoe.

Ok Sherlock, I hid out on the north end of A-4's street ready to catch the culprit.

Guess what I did, it was A-4 and his two side kicks that were caught red handed, in an uncover golf cart, he just didn't plan it right, he used a gas cart noise maker.....if he was in stealth solar mode I may have missed him..

I told U his story was fishy.

We are pleased to announce that the Greater Gilly-Wide man hunt initiated over the last couple of days has been called off!

It was discovered today that the culprit being sought as responsible for leaving deep footprints all over the A4 family Lot, is none other than A4 himself!

He was seen today trying to pull away from his good lady and her mother, who were valiantly trying to contain his antics as he danced around on the sand waving his arms in the air and shouting for joy.

The staff of the Forensic Department of His Worship the Mayor are to be congratulated on their professional analysis of the crime scene, leading to the extremely accurate description of the eventual culprit being issued.

It is only unfortunate that attention of the investigation was initially centred on two completely innocent residents, Jimbo2012 and latterly on the male half of GillyCruisers, who both had their better halves provide them with cast iron alibies.

The Mayor’s Forensic Department, when asked how they managed to derive such an accurate description of the suspect from the minute forensic evidence, replied

“We knew it was an Adult Male, physically not mentally, because a Women wouldn’t be daft enough to ruin a good pair of shoes jumping up and down like an idiot in the sand, the shoe size was obvious from the footprint impression, the depth of the depression gave us the weight and the height, as such an overweight shorter individual would not have been able jump off the floor”

This brings to a successful conclusion the largest man ever undertaken by His Worship the Mayor’s Office in the Greater Gillyland neighbourhood and we have to thank all the many local residents, especially Jimbo2012, who have spent many sleepless hours watching the A4 family Lot to prevent further damage to the surface of the sand!

How to catch up? Guess I will have to start again from this point forward, though I am so sorry I missed the Great Gilly Caper! Drats! Having been in the area in question many, many times over this past week, I feel certain I could have tracked the culprit down and used my cunning ability to woo the perpetrator to the right side of the tracks!

We are staying with our bank, Chase, as we have been with them for 32 years. We are using Citizens for house however.

We are leaving on30th. There is snow here in the suburbs of Chicago. Will be glad to leave it.

Am sure everyone had a wonderful time at the " gilly.bration" tonight. We wish we could have been there, but after an overnight on the Auto Train, we arrived in the frozen northern tundra of Delaware. "Pygmy" duty awaits. Hopefully we will stay busy enough NOT to notice the 1 - 3 inches if white stuff that fell this afternoon and evening.

In the meantime, Gilligans, party well and often. We shall return ASAP.

Signing off before my toes freeze.

Well since we are one of the new villages, our group has probably just purchased golf carts. I want to know which one you purchased and why and if you would purchase something else now that you bought the other one, thanks!

We just bought a new Yamaha from The Villages Golf Cars (Brownwood location). We bought a four-seater (two facing front and two facing back) because we have a St. Bernard. We looked at a remanufactured Club Car (Master's Golf Cars) and a new Club Car (can't remember the name of the place) but ultimately decided on the Yamaha because of the warranty and the proximity of the dealer (we also checked out Clubs and Carts in Ocala--another authorized Yamaha dealer but ultimately like the package that TVGC puts together).

You will got a ton opinions about this by posting on this forum...many will tell you that you can "save thousands by buying outside of TV." Frankly, I don't have the time or patience to do that (contacted a place in Kentucky or Tennessee called Cunningham's --the guy got back to me initially but then never followed up after I had more questions). If you're in to taking on a cart as a project, maybe you should consider it. But frankly I'm not in the mood to buy a stripped cart and then adding/installing all the accessories myself. I wanted a Village-ready cart and that's exactly what I'm getting!

Our cart will be ready for us when we arrive back for a week at the end of March--can't wait.

We also bought not one, but two Yamaha gas carts when we moved in. The first one purchased outside the villages, the second at The Villages Golf Carts. We decided on gas because we figured we would be able to go a lot further and not have to worry with the maintenance required for a battery cart. We bought two because there are times when we want to go in different directions and don't want to take the car. We do like the convenience of the local dealer and service.

Bought a new gas EZGO from Dave at Advantage Golf Cart. Wide range of cart options and a really wide range of colors. Great service. No negatives from me. The store is located on 44 across from Sparr and behind the old restaurant.

There is a debate re: environmental impact of electric vs gas. We chose gas bc of range; didn't want to risk being stuck somewhere; the batteries impact environment bc require daily charging and add to pollution when discarded upon replacement; and although the putt-putt noise of gas adds to noise pollution, it is a small safety feature in that the noise also helps fellow cart path users, pedestrians in parking lots and squares and vehicle drivers know we are there.

That said, once jimbo's priorities switch from his home to the solar carts, I intend to check the solar option for our second cart.

Yes I get bored and change gears :read:

Lead is recycled at about 98% it is the most eco friendly of all metals for that reason.

The carbon footprint is 20% of a gas cart.

In fact today someone sprung a oil leak in there's a new thread (https://www.talkofthevillages.com/forums/all-about-golf-carts-things-156/2007-yamaha-golf-cart-oil-leak-68750/) was started, now that's pollution.

Hello everyone,

Bruce and I wanted to thank everyone who welcomed us with open arms at the Gillybration this past Friday at Evans Prairie as well as all the help and welcomes on TOTV. Even though we had tons of hiccups and problems during our design appointment we have finished it and hope the house ends up our dream house. Not happy with the problems with not doing the stretches we were promised in writing, and at first request the villages is not willing to do anything at all to compensate us other than they offered us the ability to choose another lot, AT CURRENT RAISED PRICES. We had our lot on Vicksburg Ave. reserved for 5 months, and at the design appointment they said "so sorry, so sad, and sorry we promised in writing and on a layout, but you can't do those stretches, but we will stretch it as much as we can". Needless to say we were not happy campers. On top of that, our first designer was desperate to get out early and insisted that we had to make all of our choices in one day and finalized the next, and was tired, disinterested and rushing us from one house to another before we were ready. She even started packing up her stuff before 4 p.m. the first day while we were trying to bring up a couple of changes we wanted. We had had it and refused to deal with her anymore and got a new one assigned. This has not been a heavenly visit or time for us, and our design was more like "Dante's Inferno". SO MANY DROPPED BALLS !!! Our sales rep unfortunately told the designer we were so prepared and sophisticated that we will make snap decisions...our designer took that way too literally in our opinions. BUT GILLY'S, WE REALLY ARE NICE PEOPLE WHO ARE EASY TO GET ALONG WITH NO MATTER WHAT THE VILLAGES EVER TELLS YOU GUYS !!! I think we were too easy going it it came back to bite us later on. Oh well, it is over and our close is scheduled for April 10th...we will be coming in regullary to check progress so keep us informed of any get togethers. We hope to meet others we didn't get a chance to talk to or meet this past week... Thanks again, Marcy and Bruce Snell

We're also concerned about the design appt which we haven't set yet. On the stretch problem...did the lot you chose not accommodate the stretches you thought it would? Our lot is very deep but we can't stretch wide...but we knew this beforehand. Maybe u should pass on the name of the "disinterested designer" so we make sure not to get that one. I'm afraid we're gonna be difficult as we've always built custom homes & our choices here are very limited.

I will send you a private message. However, I must warn you, I don't believe they will allow you the time to even become "difficult" and it is definitely not an unlimited design process. They seem under strict rules to keep things rolling as fast as possible and seem very tired and overworked. But I love the villages enough that we had to suck up a lot of our frustration.

I've seen these things up close and personal. Good call on being the bartender! Depending on how long the ride is, people tend to stop pedaling bc from either fatigue or the effects of "fuel" consumption. On the plus side, as opposed to bring stranded in a golf cart, at least you'll have a supply of fuel available to party where you stop.

Also, fuel consumption makes those seats somewhat "wobbly" ;) better be belted into them just in case.

SpiceCajunPugs,
First of all, I'm sorry to hear that of design process did not meet your expectations on many fronts. We recently designed and had quite the opposite experience. Our sales agent also received preliminary approval for a couple of stretches we wanted, but also told us in no uncertain terms that the designers had the final say in the entire design process. We learned that when we finally met with our designer. We had requested a certain designer who had come highly recommended, but were told that TV would not assign designers in advance. We did not work with the individual we requested but were more than pleased with our designer. She was more than conscientious and interested in making us feel comfortable with our selections. We were lucky enough to receive the stretches we had requested, plus some stretches and suggestions for use of space that she recommended.
Much of the success of The Villages is due to the work ethic, ability, and expertise of those they hire. If you were not pleased with your design meeting, I would suggest you send a letter - not an email - to Jennifer Parr to discuss your concerns.
Regardless of your experience, I'm glad you were able to see past the experience and are looking forward to your future in TV and all it has to offer, which is pretty much the primary reason so many of us chose TV in the first place! Welcome!

Linda and I were very happy with the designer and the process. I believe our sales person did a good job of getting us the designer. I was also told that we could change lots once with no consequences, and we were told the lot that we picked didn't allow for a stretch, but while we were there they looked at a one foot stretch for the lanai and the master bedroom. I did a similar process 6 years ago at Lake Ashton and we have been very pleased both times. My guess is with so many going up there has to be some good and some not as good designers.

I got an email with the results and a disclaimer that it was preliminary. When I got to design I was fortunate to get everything. There were some options I didn't know about and they didn't ask me if I wanted during design.

Yes, just like A-4, we asked our sales rep to get approval on how much we could stretch as soon as we reserved our lot over five months ago. Both CAD and our sales rep put in writing what stretches were approved and they said we could do what we requested. They also did a cut and paste of our selected home (and Iris) with the stretches listed and pasted it onto a copy of our lot with the exact dimensions shown. For five months we could have selected a new lot if we did not like what this lot would do for us, and now that the stretchable and reasonably priced lots are much more expensive and quite scarce, especially cul de sac corners like our lot. In addition, this lot at 3293 Vicksburg Ave was special to us as the name of our street had very special meaning...my wonderful late mother was born and raised in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Also, section 214 is right next to Evans Prairie, and believe it or not my mother's maiden name was Evelyn EVANS.
There was no way we had the time or inclination at the last minute to try to search and select a new lot. We also were not afforded the opportunity to spend much time discussing options and we were only presented with the ones that are mandated to get a choice for by the designer. I would just like to tell everyone who will soon be having a design appointment to make sure your rep makes it clear to your designer as to what you expect from the appointment and to insure they will be considerate and patient toward your needs. Also maked double and triple sure that you understand exactly what your lot will do for you or you may be very surpriesed. We are still very excited for our future at the villages, and if anyone has any questions from us about the process, just let us know....Sincerely, Bruce and Marcy Snell.

Much cheaper to do it after closing. Get a standard door and have Entrypoint by Perry's in Spanish Springs do it. Lots more choices and less than half the price !!!

Frankly, I am perplexed and I too would be upset. How is it that they ran it through CAD before the meeting and gave it the ok and yet declined it during the meeting as not fitting? If the CAD dept. did the numbers, the numbers didn't change.

Recently spotted A4's top secret golf cart
attempting to get authorized by the Villages office of Security. This 'Gilly Gunship' will offer our new Village with cutting edge technology in fighting the rampant criminal element invading from the North. His Honor The Mayor is excited to put it into action!:jester:

Leave it to the Air Force to put a Training Tail Wheel on their pocket rockets. The Navy replaced it years ago with a Tail Hook. :plane: I'll fly anything. :plane: Who wants to be my Rear Seat? :girlneener: And who has the list of targets? :boom:
SpicyCajunPug has coordinates for a couple of targets I'm sure.

Hi Everyone!
My husband David and I are going to build soon in Gilchrist. Our design appointment is on Feb. 10th. I have been reading TOTV for awhile and feel like I know you all already. You sound like a fun and interesting group and we look forward to meeting you in the near future. I appreciate the information provided on the design process and we're anxious to get it completed. Any current thoughts? Also, hoping to be invited to any upcoming Gillabration.
Thanks!

Hi Guys,
Welcome on board, sadly SpicyCayjon has had a bit of bum deal on their design, but fortunately for most of us it goes like a dream (an expensive dream, but still a dream) and we can tell you after meeting Marcy and Bruce, they are a great upbeat and postive couple, so the fault is not with them, full of beens and typical Gilly people, so dont panic about your upcoming design, the odds are on your side.

You will absolutely love it here and everyone is upbeat, up for a laugh and full of fun.

Now we have solved the midnight Bigfoot mystery, the neaighbourhood has calmed down a bit. :jester::jester:

Look forward to seeing you around the 10th and if His Worship the Mayor doesn't declare another Gillybration soon, we will be very surprised. :crap2::crap2::crap2::crap2::crap2::crap2::crap2:: crap2:
