Gosh--I've been sick in bed with a horrible cold--darn Ohio weather and working in a hospital :cold: Have missed so much--congrats Andy and Wendy on your close and hope that your home is everything you wanted. We can't wait to see it. Our's was officially "turned over to us" as we were told by the electric company-and set up a time for our closing on the 8th of January. We nixed having movers try to move some of our items down as they couldn't guarentee delivery time when we were down there so we'll be frantically buying furniture--added stress :22yikes: Can't wait to meet everyone and see some sun. enjoy the hustle and bustle of the last few days before Christmas--more stress :22yikes:

Looks like the neighborhood will be hopping today. Eight open houses in 210. Should be a busy place.
the models on amherst are well worth seeing but you need an agent to do that. If you have none, I recommend Jim Minnelli, but it seems everyone loves the agent with whom they worked.

Sounds to me like this neighborhood is really starting to come together! It improves every time someone moves into their new home. It's like a living, breathing organism that's coming to life. This is so amazing!!!!
I hope we have a wonderful turn out at Evans Prairie tomorrow night. Come one, come all!!! See ya tomorrow night!

It stinks to be sick, especially during the Christmas season. Hope you feel better soon Twinspin! Your home is lovely and I know you won't recognize the neighborhood when you get back! Get well soon and get down here soon...the parties gettin' started!!!

I could lead in meditation to breathe deeply and pay attention to your breath, but you might be off in 6 directions before I could say it, given your situation. I hope the stress eases soon but it seems everyone squeezes through a canal before they arrive. I'm also facing design appt, sale of current home and moving. not easy, but you aren't alone, nor am I.
breathe deeply, and we'll meet soon and delightfully.

Meredith-Jill and I are here Christmas sans family and a "tea" sounds nice!
Congrats on your first day of design, Chief Rose! Can't wait to hear how it all went... Calc-the traffic is a bit busy on Amherst, but mostly due to construction traffic! They seem to be using Defoe to get over to the model homes. Some do go thru here, but not so very many! thankfully!
Can't wait for everyone to get here!

Don't worry, Ms. Kitty. Your name is on the list with all of the other stragglers. We can't wait for everyone to be here. The party list will be long and distinguished!!!

I'll see you at NY Eve and can't wait to be full time! nice that you hosted our UK neighbors in a welcome not only to TV but to the US.

hotrodgirl, I enjoyed a few days needling the construction on Defoe before discovering the quicker, quieter route on Eastfield Path. btw, that juniper plant smells nasty but should look nice wherever you need a tall skinny evergreen.

Let me preface with our designer,Jim, was patient and helpful! We had our meetings last week and this week I get an e.mail from him that in his review of the home's mechanics ...he skipped the HVAC! Now,this calls for a change form ... But they will not require the $250! The whole thing just sort of hit me funny? So for all of you riding around, checking out the new builds, as 210-96 gets going, let me know if those heat pump tubes and vents seem missing!!

We are thinking of hosting a "Christmas Tea" on Christmas afternoon. Don't know about the rest of you, but we don't have family here with us and would love to do tea, scones, etc around 3:30 that afternoon. Any interest? (Wendy and Andy, I don't promise to be an expert at scones, but willing to give it a try.):mmmm:

Hi Meredith,
That sounds like a wonderful idea and thank you for the invite, we will be there and don't worry, we are very scone tolerant! :clap2:

Finally decided on the Lantana. Was shocked all 14 of my requested changes were approved (thanks Jeannie Ulmer). Two foot bump across MBR, LR, Nook. Six foot bump to enlarge the MBR closet across the back of the MBR bath to the outside wall and across through the dinning room, pantry/garage. Four foot bump through Nook, kitchen and pantry (former laundry room) to allow island in kitchen. Also gained a 48" cabinet on both sides of kitchen. Added a work shop (separate room about 10' x 10') behind GC garage. Extended lanai across entire width of back of home and 16' out back. Replaced sliders with French doors in
LR. These are some of the major changes. For those of you who have not had your design meetings, we were allowed to delete the dish washer, oven, refrigerator and microwave for credit. We also moved the laundry and deep sink into the garage. We did home and Summer kitchen design yesterday and bird cage and the area inside the cage today. Tomorrow we pick fixtures, etc. The only request not approved was the elevation D we liked. Seems they have quit mfg the structures required for that elevation since our last visit. Hope to see some of you tonight at 8PM.

Not everyone has sent me their info to get on the spreadsheet. I did add 3 or 4 people to the spreadsheet over the last few days but I'm not sure if any of them are on the NY party list. I will resend the spreadsheet to everyone that's on it, so if you don't get an email from me and you are on the party list, you can PM me your email address and I'll add you.

Good Luck to all who are closing on old homes and the new ones. Very exciting. We close here in Glen Ellyn IL on Jan 18 and will head for TV on around Jan 28. We are renting a house up in the north TV. But will come down often to say hello to our new neighbors. We have seen pictures of our building site. It is very exciting. Take care. We finally closed on our home yesterday! A little anti-climatic unforunately...wish we could have been there in person. Somehow standing at a UPS counter in a strip mall in Virginia having what seemed like 932 pages notarized just doesn't seem as exciting as actually being handed the keys.
We are packing a truck on Christmas Eve and then leaving the day after Christmas to drive down (arriving on the 27th) for Stage One of our move (Stage Two will be over my Spring Break and then Stage Three [final] will be in June). Maybe a Gilchrist caravan to Brownwood for Happy Hour will be in order!

Met a contractor working at Brownwood he was offered a contract to build a group of stores, but they gave him a dead line of 5 months to complete, I said can you build it that quick?
He said it's going to be hard but he needs the work so he signed the deal.
He was also told that after Jan it's really going to get busy building homes at a high rate, he thinks the build out will be two years.

Batman, We are having our design meeting at the end of January and are considering either a Lantana or Zinnia. We'd also like to stretch the house as much as our lot will allow. One person told me they were able to stretch their Zinnia from 2020 sq/ft under air-conditioned to 2950 sq/ft. Is this possible? Were you able to determine the cost of your stretches?

My sales rep said that I would find out on the 9th who my design person would be. I think they know who it is, but my reputation of "wanting to know" and "planner of the century" probably has me locked out until design day. I've learned SOOOOOO much from all of you who have designed and bought that my wish list is 3 pages long. I hope our designer has a sense of humor. I may even pull a Junction and roll on the floor for them :a040:

Congrats on your close and may all your dreams come true when you see it in December. Will you still be there in January when we come for our close on the 3rd? We also plan to do our move in stages but as I look at all the snow falling I'm ready to pack up and move right now--screw finding jobs!!
Marry Christams and safe travels.

No...we'll be gone by the 3rd. School resumes on 1-2-13 in the country where I teach. I'm guessing we'll leave on 12-30-12. But as of right now we are planning on coming back down MLK weekend for the weekend.

Batman, are you sure that is a one family home! It sounds wonderful. Be sure to share pictures as it goes up. Congratulations!
I believe you can bump out and expand as much as your lot will allow. I sent a list of all our requested changes to our sales agent a few weeks prior to our design meetings and she was able to get them all pre-approved and gave us an estimate of cost for each change. A 2FT stretch through the MBR, LR, Nook was $4K. A 6 FT stretch through the area behind the MBR bath, dining room/foyer and garage was $12.5K. A 4 FT stretch through the nook, kitchen and pantry (former laundry room) was $10K (this allows island in kitchen and two extra kitchen cabinets). Keep in mind that the costs of stretches are determined by what needs to be moved or supported in the area being stretched. Hope this info helps. Send a PM if anyone needs specific details.

When you are considering those stretches, those numbers apply, I believe, to the change in the joists, etc. but then you need to also add in the additional material for flooring etc.

Dear All,
When we were designing, our designer told us that usually we could stretch in 2ft jumps up to the side boundary, where we had to leave at least 5ft to the boundary and usually 2ft to 4ft forward, depending upon the model.
She didn't mention any restriction for stretching at the back, but did say we had to leave 10ft at the back to the boundary if we built a birdcage, although some of the ones we have seen around seem to be closer than 10ft to the boundary.
We ended up with a 2ft stretch out on one side on the bedrooms, 9ft 6in at the front side for a Golf Cart garage and back by 4ft on the lania
Hope that helps a little.

Our closing was today, movers brought almost everything(forgot washer and dryer, and a TV), picked up new bigger flat screen for the living room, 4 new fans(didn't like the ones from TV), 48 Hr blinds put up all the blinds, Comcast came to set up the cable, phone, internet. Went through all the boxes, set up beds, table, got a rental golf cart. We are bushed. Love the new house, met a few neighbors. Glad to be here, even if it is only until the 31st. Thanks to our salesperson, Laurie Briggs, designer Phil Haskins and builder Paul Muhlbauer. They all did a great job, couldn't be happier with the process and finished product.

By the way, what is a " design complete pack" ??
I think you're gonna have to go a ways to outdo Batman911 on stretches and changes...:a20: From what I'm hearing I hope you'll be able to do what you need to do to make the Zinnia what you need (how's that for a convoluted sentence???). Our design pack was a pretty nice floor plan drawing, samples of the shingle going to be used, pics of the lighting packages, etc. Pretty much a list and samples of everything you selected for your home. Seems as though most designers have a pretty good sense of humor and they will even suggest changes/modifications that you hadn't thought of to make your home nicer. I predict you're really gonna enjoy the process. :girlneener:

As I sit back on Christmas Eve 2012 I realize how very blessed I am to have such a wonderful spouse and the best neighbors in the world. In passing conversation tonight, someone mentioned that the Mayan calendar was obviously wrong. Another person pointed out that the calendar may have just meant the end of an era and the starting of another. What words of wisdom the director of the Admin Dept (Junction29) can come up with on short notice!!!
But I realized that he is totally correct. This is the end of an era so to speak what with all of us relocating to The Villages and starting afresh! I look forward to this new era with anticipation and excitement. I've met so many new, good friends and neighbors with many more who are yet to come. From my point of view, we're just getting started but what a start it's been!!! :BigApplause:

So, from the mayor and all of his support staff...We Wish You a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!:MOJE_whot::MOJE_whot:
Now all of you...get your butts down here and let's get this party started!!!
From Joeb and I, agreed, parties starting, a new era of friends and excitement! So looking forward to it!
Merry Merry to you all!

To all our TOTV friends on this forum,
Sorry our Best Wishes for a wonderful holiday are a bit late. Now that Christmas Day has come and gone, we are hoping everyone had a joyous holiday wherever you are.
Unfortunately, my mother was again admitted to the hospital on the 24th in the middle of the night. Very, very weak.
However, we have had some very joyous moments too. Our son came home from Denver. I knew he was coming home for Xmas, but he surprised me by coming home Thursday for my birthday several days earlier than expected. His room wasn't ready as I have been using it for gifts, Florida packing, etc., but he didn't care. It is great to have him home for a week! Although he is out visiting friends more than he has been home. He just relocated in Septembet so he still has many friends here.
We also had a wonderful dinner with my sister and her family last night. We have an 18 month old grand-niece that is so full of life and wonder, she is just a joy to be with.
Right now the forecast shows 10 to 18" of snow possible starting Wednesday evening through Thursday afternoon.:cold:
A4 and Jimbo, wishing you safe travels to TV.
At this point, Rich and I are still planning to fly down for New Years. Have a few contractors lined up a couple days for warranty work and solar tubes installed. Looking forward to meeting those which are there now.
All the best, Rich and Linda

Rich and Linda, Thank you for the update, I'm saying a prayer for your situation. Not sure where in the country you are, but my relatives in TN were expecting a blizzard. Ugggghhhhhh...woke up this morning to sleet and ice! As a teacher, this is the kind of weather that gets school canceled so to have it occur on a non-school day is a huge bummer. But this time it's even more of a let-down because we were supposed to leave this morning to head down to TV for a couple of days! Hi Both,
That is a great idea and new tradition to start for the Gilly neighbourhood.
We will be there and the donation idea is a very laudable one also.
What about letting the host each month pick the local charitable activity in the greater Villages area for us all to support, then we spread our help accross our wider neighbourhood and to needy friends, young and old, we may not have met yet.
The individual charitable donation needs to be confidential, maybe a sealed envelope, that way those that may be of more limited financial means can still attend and not feel pressured to overstretch themselves month after month
Another fine example of what a fabulous neighbourhood this is turning out to be. :2excited:

Once the arrival date had been announced, we have been in discussions with the Mayor at the regular neighbourhood emergency meetings about authorised restraint techniques that do not cause (long term) physical damage, just in case.
We have even developed a new one that allows the technique to be used against someone holding a Corona bottle without breaking it, to save the contents being spilled and wasted!! :jester:

I'd lay off of the water treatment system, IMHO. The water here is hard but I don't find it objectionable. As long as you're satisfied with the taste, I'd pass. Personally, I don't like treated water. It feels "slippery" to me and I have a devil of a time getting the soap off of me....:a20:

Ugggghhhhhh...woke up this morning to sleet and ice! As a teacher, this is the kind of weather that gets school canceled so to have it occur on a non-school day is a huge bummer. But this time it's even more of a let-down because we were supposed to leave this morning to head down to TV for a couple of days! We MIGHT be able to leave later this afternoon and drive for a few hours...not really sure. Keeping our fingers crossed...the U-Haul is all packed!
It will be sooooo great when you guys get back down here. We've missed you both and we really need to meet Cooper!!!

An idea was proposed a few months ago about establishing our own page on Facebook. I was wondering if there was still any interest in this topic. I don't think that it would be too hard to do/administer and was going to give it a try if we have the interest?
So, what say you guys????

We agree with the replies about not spending all that money on a whole-house water filtration/softener system. We got a whole-house water filtration system only. It's a lot less money (under $500), and gets rid of the chlorine odor, iron, and other particulate matter (aka "crud"). The water tastes better, and our wallet remained intact! :-)
Thanks to TOTV, we had Kiley & Sons Plumbing perform the work and are very pleased.

Yes it's true . . . A-4 and the crew have landed. It's been a long 3 weeks of packing and a FULL hard day of traveling to TV, but this morning we ventured out to lay eyes on Gilchrist 210.71 and it is EVERYTHING we had hoped it would be. As we were leaving, one block from the lot, there was a man walking his dog, on the wrong side of the street, so I guessed that had to be Junction29 and Millie "The Wonder Dog #2" :doggie:and it was. So we all stood in the street Hugging and Laughing then proceded to Andy's house to meet Wendy. These Chaps are FABULOUS !!! As we left we caught the Mayor and Janice on their back porch hard at work, and the Hugging and Laughing kicked in AGAIN. Then we met Gracie, "The Wonder Dog #1" :doggie: , Anna Belle to cat, and the real prize was Sally, Rusty's Mom. OMG people . . . . THESE PEOPLE ARE WONDERFUL !!!
To all of you people reading this thread trying to decide where you want to buy or build in TV, you're crazy if you don't head to Gilchrist 209 and 210. This morning we met 5 incredible people and the funny thing was it was like we had known each other for years and were already best of friends. They told us that the rest of the people they've been socializing with are even nicer than them, which is hard to believe.
BOY DID WE MAKE A GREAT DECISION

Zip-a-de-do-da, zip-a-de-a, my my my what a wonderful day!
We can only second A4 and the Mayors comments about the people of our neighbourhood. :agree::agree:
We have yet to meet one we haven't liked imediately, don't know whether it is the air or the names of our village and its near neighbours, but we are certainly attracting some smashing people. :spoken::spoken:
Looking forward to a great retirement out here (eventually), that is if Jimbo doesn't get us all involved in some new business venture. :coolsmiley::a040:
A4 is just as we would have imagined him, only bigger and Cathy is just fabulous and definately deserves a medal for coping with him - then we had the added advantage of them bringing a brand new 'Mum' for us all to share, to go with the one we share with His Worship the Mayor and the Lady Mayoress

I am so excited to read these wonderful posts! Knocked on Calc's door today, but no one there...walked around the neighborhood to seek out A-4 as I thought he may drive over to check things out, but didn't see him or Cathy...looking forward to meeting up and enjoying some laughs! Much activity on my side as I am readying to have my garage acid washed and epoxied, grout sealed and rooms painted! Interviewing Rusty's cleaning service (not Janice:laugh:) next week as I definitely won't have the energy after all that shopping! So glad neighbors are arriving safely and good times are just around the corner!:a040:

We made it back to Hawaii so I finally have time to provide a little feed back from our recent visit.
We arrived in TV on 17 December for our home design appointments which were to start on the 19th. Our sales rep, Jeannie Ulmer met us on the 17th when we checked in at the sales center to pick up the keys to our rental home. Spent the remainder of the day looking at models as we had not decided between Lantana and Ivy. Went with the Lantana as all our requested changes were approved. Our design appointment was moved up to the 18th to allow more time. Spent the 18th with our design rep to pick counter top material, cabinets, flooring, colors, doors, electrical and utility plugs, etc. Spent the 19th designing the bird cage and deck. Spent the 20th picking cabinet hardware, door hardware, lighting, plumbing fixtures, etc. Signed the contract on the 21st. Somehow we managed to attend a neighborhood meet and greet party at EP on the 19th, attended a social at the Mayor's home and got in a little shopping to keep my wife happy. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience from day one to finish. All questions asked were answered promptly by our reps (even the more technical ones they had to get answers from the engineers/builders). Everyone we met was positive (especially our neighbors to be). Traffic, compared to living in Honolulu, was not an issue. Drivers were courteous, even when we were lost and driving like tourist. We only ate out three times. Evans Prairie country club, TooJays, and Ruby Thai. Service and food were excellent (especially Ruby Thai). We believe this is normal life in TV. This was our 5th visit and it once again met or exceeded our expectations. I know that most of you already know this but I want to assure those that have not visited or built your home that this is a first class place with a lot of very nice residents.

CoopersDad and I snuck in and snuck out of Gilchrist...and it wasn't by choice. We had a very limited window of opportunity to get some things accomplished.
Sorry that I missed Carol's visit...but we did get a driveway visit from Andy and Wendy (only slightly embarrassing as I had just pulled an 18-pack of toilet paper out from the truck)...and then Dave and Meredith did a driveby as we were unloading pictures. SUCH NICE PEOPLE.
I only had a chance to give a big wave to the Mayor across the barren sand that lies between our houses.
Spent time with the propane company and the Bright House Cable guy and the builder walk through...and then spent what seems to be a ridiculous number of hours shopping for a golf cart. Looked in TV and outside TV...they're all pretty much the same price. Someone on this forum once said something about saving thousands of dollars going "off campus." If you know where that is, please pass it along!
We are still on target for MLK weekend but that is looking to be just as harried as these past three days...we will most definitely be primed and ready for socializing the last week in March when we get to stay for a whole week.
Carol: if you don't mind people who only travel with 2 changes of clothes, you can probably count Ed and I in for a quick stop-by on the 19th (donation in hand--can't wait to hear details later).
Happy New Year to all!
And Rusty: I vote "YES" for Facebook!

Nothing like a good nights sleep after 1125 miles in a rough 24' truck ride towing our car to boot.
Sat morning at 9, three movers loaded the truck, then the car on the trailer, we left LI at 12:00, drove 4 miles and some idiot on his cell phone crossed the line and was headed straight into us head on,:0000000000luvmyhors: I stood on the brakes and horn, missed each other by inches.......nice way to start a trip.
Started to snow as crossed the bridge into NJ, nothing was sticking just wet and a bit slow till Delaware. Then things got back to a normal pace of 65-70 mph, made to Emporia VA that night 525 miles, up & on the road again at 7, :mornincoffee: arrived at about 8PM, oh fun.
Our little Miata looks like a mud flap never seen a car so dirty from the rain & snow...:22yikes:

Hi again! I finished my design NY eve about 4. the backdrop of stressors made the whole thing tense, but TV pros guided me thru design smoothly. Look for groundbreaking on amherst, in the middle of the now unbuilt part, with a close 4/1/13. The sweetest words were when the designer (Blessed Mary) said, "You have maximized the lot and could not have put anything more into your home"....this echoed the intention I had earlier expressed to my agent, Jim Minnelly, whom I have grown to love, "Jim, I can't overbuild this lot. I want to make it my dream house and not ever want to move".

Hi Everyone!!! Last night, Janice and I and approximately 33 other assorted Gillies, Ferns, Lattes and Sannibellians gathered at the Evans Prairie Country Club to welcome 2013. We had a wonderful menu, great food, good conversation and just a drink or two:beer3:
A lot of new neighbors showed up and you all know how terrible I am with names so I'm not going to even try and caption the pictures.
We did have a short ceremony in which Andy & Wendy Andrews were inducted into the Order of the Gilly Garter. They can now officially be referred to as Sir John and Lady Wendy. They were both given certificates (suitable for framing) to commemorate the occasion. Sir John was knighted by the Lord High Mayor and given the ceremonial blade for display. Lady Wendy received her official Gilly Garter along with two additional medals for being such an outstanding assistant to the head of the Administrative Department (Andy) and for putting up with Andy.
After dinner, the remaining partiers retired to the patio to continue the celebration. Evans Prairie stayed open until midnight when the final 8 hardcore parties sang Auld Lange Sine and bid each other good night.
I think it's safe to say that a good time was had by all! Enjoy the pics!!!
PS - For some reason the pics aren't uploading. I'll get them up as soon as the website lets me!!:Screen_of_Death:

 Your Worship and Lady Mayoress
What a great honour you both bestowed upon us last night at the Gillyland New Years Party, your announcement accompanied by the Court Heralds took us completely by surprise and as everyone will see by the pictures when they are posted, we were overcome with emotion!
Please, please don't treat us any differently now we have the title, no bowing and scraping, underneath the pomp and ceremony we are still the same people; :jester::jester:
We feel that the night was a great success, just a pity that a few more didn't stay the course to see the New Year in with the 'Hard Core' party goers, but the main thing is that everyone had a good time whilst they were with us.
Thanks to the band, we managed to get in a round of Hokey Cokey, or Hokey Pokey as you guys say and Auld Langs Syne went down well (twice)
Sorry you were not able to find us later Kitty, we did indeed move to the outside area to be nearer the music after the meal and you really deserve a medal for all the 'goodies' you brought to make the party go with a swing, many thanks from us all, the rattles and horns you provided worked overtime at midnight.
Our very best wishes to all our new friends and their loved ones for a Happy and Healthy New Year.
We are truly blessed to have found this place and all you great people to share it with.

I have, I think, successfully added a page to Facebook for the Gillys of Gilchrist. I've posted the pics from the New Years Eve party at Evans Prairie CC. If you're on FB, please go on and tag yourselves in the pics. My mind is mush and I'm sure I'd make a naming mistake if I tried to do it!
Let's see how this goes...

Congrats Kitty. I am so happy for you. Cant wait to see you beautfiul view. It looked great in photos. Our house might have a roof on it by now. We havent seen any pictures since the beginning of the week.
Now for the wait for it to be built. It goes fast. We are about 6 weeks from moving in.

Thanks! Yes, I am all wrapped up. It is just starting to snow here. There are beautiful large flakes slowly falling from the sky. Looks pretty. But not pretty enough for me to stay here in ILL.

Can't wait to see you Gayle!! I'm planning what to sell b4 moving, throwing donations into bins, cracking my shins on them, scratching my head and spinning in circles!
btw, I only live an hour N of TV and today is a miserable drippy day, but still only 59.7 degrees.
My beloved boxer Emma will be happy to meet you! See you soon, and God bless all you are doing to get to TV!

No why would it go smoooooth for me, I got screwed, the fiscal Cliff shut down the IRS computers, the bank couldn't get copies of my tax retiurns which R now required to close, we waited alllllll day yesterday then at 4:45 they said the IRS still hasn't emailed the the returns........
At 8:45 this morning we get a call from the TV law firm that all is set pick up the keys, we were there by 9, call the movers I had them first remove the living room carpet/padding it's ready to sell, then they started to unload, ( these guys don't know what a NY minute is they were slow as glue) we were unpacked by 3:00, but no elec, TV shut us down, so we're back in the Airstream tonight.
Power should be on in the morning have the warrantee people there at 8AM to start on my 3 page punch list.
W/D being delivered Saturday, oh fun, stopped at City Fire for a couple of Bloody Marys, went looking at engineered wood floors having a nice vegan dinner as I type.
I should be asleep soon I'm beat....we are are having a ball.
Funny how we thought the furniture would look in one place only to have the guys move it to another, you just can't plan to that fine a detail.
It's all good:pepper2:
