Hi Everyone!
My husband David and I are going to build soon in Gilchrist. Our design appointment is on Feb. 10th. I have been reading TOTV for awhile and feel like I know you all already. You sound like a fun and interesting group and we look forward to meeting you in the near future. I appreciate the information provided on the design process and we're anxious to get it completed. Any current thoughts? Also, hoping to be invited to any upcoming Gillabration.
Thanks!
Doreen & David & Daisy (the dog)
Welcome! What unit are you in? Gilchrist is a GREAT village...my husband and I will be full time starting this summer. We are in 209. This is a great forum to get all your pre-design meeting questions answered! You have less than 2 weeks until your appointment...you must be excited! Welcome to the neighborhood!

Recently spotted A4's top secret golf cart
attempting to get authorized by the Villages office of Security. This 'Gilly Gunship' will offer our new Village with cutting edge technology in fighting the rampant criminal element invading from the North. His Honor The Mayor is excited to put it into action!:jester:

Hi Doreen & David & Daisy! Welcome to the neighborhood! :coolsmiley: I'm sure that you'll find yourself right at home with our lively cast of characters! :jester:
Where are you building in Gilchrist? We also have a spreadsheet of neighborhood info that is maintained by the inestimable A-4 Skyhawk. If you want to get in on this please send him a message with your info.
There's plenty of info on here about the design process and I know that anyone would be more than willing to help.

To the Maniac in the Golfcart with the "Orange T" who came ripping, weaving, speeding and generally disrupting traffic on Eastfield and Bradshaw today. This is a quiet neighborhood where elderly , disabled and mentally incompetant persons wander the streets walk themselves and their dogs. Your driving and behavior will not be tolerated. I have promised to keep this information to myself but Her Ladyship Wendy, Assistant to the Assistant Administrator of Gillyland is well qualified to handle you if you can't behave. In her younger years, Lady Wendy was a member of MI-5 of Scotland Yard and handled many cases ( most of which are still classified) more difficult than you can imagine. She trained with the US Navy Seals and is trained in hand to hand combat, special weapons. She has trained in the Orient in many of the hand to hand arts with the highest masters including Judo, Karate, Chun kuk do, Jeet kun do, Niguni Stick fighting, South African bare knuckle boxing ....well the list is endless. Rumor has it at one time she was the most lethal human on earth. Do you get the picture? Continue the reckless driving putting the citizens of Gillyland at risk for bodily harm and I will be forced to report you to what may become the new Constable, Lady Wendy.

Well, we have all been encouraged to post pix of the build! But OMG, after the last post, and we appreciate you Janice, I am not sure I want to follow with just a pix!!! You guys are scaring me to death ... once we move there what is the fill up schedule on the welcome wagon, and do we know ahead of time our turn, are there really old people on the street?
Anyway here is the newest on la casa ...we are counting the days ....31.....or 30 and 3.5 hours!!
BTW - great time at EP Friday night, so glad our timing was the same as your's for the Gillybration.

I hope we can talk some younger people into moving / switching into Gilchrist. We need someone who can pedal the Gillywagon. We all can't be drivers or bartenders. And I'm pleased to hear that you're looking for sheet metal for my ride. I've flown a fabric covered balsa wood beauty before and never got real comfortable with it. You shouldn't have to keep saying "I hope these dang wings stay on"

Dear West Virginia Redneck Girl -
Let me respond for the poor dude in the cart flying his colors. He says that someone in a "Huge Sherman Ford" SUV took a bead on the rear end of his cart and to save his life he took flight. :crap2: His cart, with after-burners, was more than the chasers could handle, burning the paint off the front end of the monster. He says he can handle any "muscle" you throw at him and says "tomorrow night . . . at sun down . . . at the corner of Kilgore and Bradshaw . . . .:boom:" Bring help with you.

Hi Guys,
Welcome on board, sadly SpicyCayjon has had a bit of bum deal on their design, but fortunately for most of us it goes like a dream (an expensive dream, but still a dream) and we can tell you after meeting Marcy and Bruce, they are a great upbeat and postive couple, so the fault is not with them, full of beens and typical Gilly people, so dont panic about your upcoming design, the odds are on your side.
You will absolutely love it here and everyone is upbeat, up for a laugh and full of fun.
Now we have solved the midnight Bigfoot mystery, the neaighbourhood has calmed down a bit. :jester::jester:
Look forward to seeing you around the 10th and if His Worship the Mayor doesn't declare another Gillybration soon, we will be very surprised. :crap2::crap2::crap2::crap2::crap2::crap2::crap2:: crap2:
Thanks Andy for the compliments...we have said our peace, and now we are going to go on happy as clams (or maybe we should say Crayfish and blue crabs !!!). We are ready for another party in which we may have a tad more energy than when we were going through our design process...
Sincerely, Marcy and Bruce , pug lovers and spicy cajuns

Frankly, I am perplexed and I too would be upset. How is it that they ran it through CAD before the meeting and gave it the ok and yet declined it during the meeting as not fitting? If the CAD dept. did the numbers, the numbers didn't change.
Not sure how it happened, as we were not given an adequate explanation. It was strange.

Not sure how it happened, as we were not given an adequate explanation. It was strange.
Same thing happened to us. When we put the deposit on the lot, they used the cad for our two stretches. We were told the lot could accomodate the stretches. When we arrived to design, we told:
1> You cannot get the 4ft side stretch to the garage but lets make them check one more.
2> A couple of hours later they said we could do it but the lanai would shrink by 10 inches. We reluctantly agreed.
3> Two days later when we were going over the final contract they said oh the Lanai shrinks by only 6 inches. At least we have details plans showing this....
When we close will be interesting how deep our Lania really is....

Gracie and I took a quick inspection tour of A-4's landing pad early this morning and the rough-in plumbing was there along with an inspector who was pouring water into the main waste drain presumably with an eye towards checking the "poo flow factor" on the lot. It's really taking shape.
The only thing I can't figure out is where they're gonna put the Number 3 Wire for his landings. After the wild and wooly chase the other day I don't think I saw a drag chute on the back of his golf car and he's gonna have to have something to get his wheels on the deck when he finally gets there.
Inquiring minds want to know....:confused::confused::confused:

Okay MamaDerby! There are so many people coming in for design and so many people already here that His Worship, The Mayor and the Administrative Department are having an increasingly difficult time coordinating GillyGatherings and GillyBration!
We desperately need you and The Old Bishop to hurry your buns down here and lend a hand. Our coordinating abilities are sorely lacking and it's on through the grace of the Lord above that we've been able to keep our heads above water. We know some people who are new the neighbourhood will be looking for a Golf Cart and we may have an alternative for them to consider!
The other night we did something we have never ever done before!
After feeling a little inebriated from consuming far too many Corona’s, :beer3: we thought that rather than being pulled over by the police for drunk driving, we would take a cab, so that is what we did, we took a cab! and sure enough just down the road there was a police car, pulling drivers over to check if they had been drinking.
But as we were in the cab they just waved us by and we eventually arrived home safely.
Now we have this nearly new cab in the garage and just don’t know what to do with it, but then we thought that someone may prefer one to a Golf Cart.
Any takers? :jester::jester:

Your talents and abilities have been missed beyond human measure!!!

Contact us by private message if you have any questions or concerns we can address...don't be worried as it will all end up o.k. and worth it.
Thank you so much. We have talked with our agent who went back to the powers that be and confirmed that we shouldn’t have any problems. I know there are no guarantees but it was good to hear. Now we just wait and see what happens. Thanks again for the friendship. It’s great to be a part of Gilly Land.:o

gracie and i took a quick inspection tour of a-4's landing pad early this morning and the rough-in plumbing was there along with an inspector who was pouring water into the main waste drain presumably with an eye towards checking the "poo flow factor" on the lot.

We've been trying to keep up with the goings on since we ventured into the frozen north tundra last week. Sounds as if there is far too much fun being had. Can't believe how much we miss the sunshine, not to mention all those who've checked into the neighborhood since we left. But never fear, we shall return soon. BTW. Did you see the cute way Carol covered our pelicans to protect them from the frost?

Ole' A-4 and my lovely co-pilot had the pleasure of having breakfast with Bogo2128 (Bobby & Susie Davis) at Bonifay this morning. We shared our experience with design which started at noon today when they were to meet their sales rep. They design tomorrow morning and I just found out that they picked a Zinnia model. Good for them. That's 3 of us within 2 blocks of each other in Gilchrist with a Zinnia. After breakfast we ajourned to Gilchrist 210 Lot 117 to admire the lot and their view out the back. WOW !! And then the street party started as half the people on this thread started showing up. So we've got a couple of new GREAT Gilly's. :highfive:
Good luck tomorrow Bobby & Susie. Tell them what you want and I'll bet you get it
Even after reading all of these incredible blogs, Susie and I felt pretty insecure about our design meeting. But all of that changed when we met A-4 and his better half (B&C)! What an incredible couple... we really owe them! We actually copied many of their genius floorplan ideas, and even changed our choice of a Lantana to a Zinnia. We also met our new next door neighbors who closed on their lovely Zinnia the day we started our design meeting. They gave us some great ideas that we went with as well (thank you, Ron and Sue!). We asked for many, many changes to the floorplan, and we got them all. Our designer, Katie, was terrific, pleasant, and sharp! The entire meeting took 4 days and went very well. Absolutely no complaints.
Of course, the best part of our trip to Gillyland was meeting all of our terrific future neighbors! We cannot say enough about B&C! We also barged into the mayor's house--totally without warning--and he was super! He gave us the grand tour of his wonderful Zinnia. I wanted to camp out in his master bedroom closet!
And, it was such a privilege to meet so many of our future neighbors Friday night at Evans Prairie. We feel so lucky to be moving into this great neighborhood!!! We can't wait to join all of you permanently!

Soooo...you can see why I'm sweating the finances! After a year of not finding a preowned eastern rear view I asked my agent to show me something I could build on. There were two lots left in the middle of Amherst, and that one took my breath away. After paying a gazillion for the lot I wanted to maximize the investment so built every inch I could squeeze. I can't wait to have parties! The full moon comes up over the lake! thanks for taking a peek Jimbo, I hope all the Gillies tromp through there before they lock it up.

Janice and I had a chance to get reacquainted with Gail & Mike Roberts yesterday. The doorbell rand and, as usualy, I was in my grubby clothes (at least I'd had a shower). I remembered the faces but couldn't for the life of me recall the names (too many running around in my little brain)! We also got to meet an extremely good boy named "Beau"!
Great people and another great addition to the neighborhood.

It was a rough day on Regency Ave today. This morning we did a drive by and caught 2 people from "Bedrock" trying to move into our house before the bathroom was plumbed. Then it was reported that the President of the Beef Lovers Council was there stealing construction materials. (Jimbo - my place is NOT a dumpster). And finally our little Secret Weapon Dog Whisperer caught someome beating the ____ out of my place with a big hammer. Throw in a lot more foot prints and it makes you wonder WTH is going on over there.

Don't worry, we will get to the bottom of it all. :police:
His Worship the Mayor's Forensic Department are second to none, look how they identified the original footprint culprint as A4 himself. :police:
Although the latest deduction of a couple, from a single footprint and with a limping dog, beggers belief.
The early morning meeting with Doughnuts and Music planned for Monday may throw some light on it (especially if it is still dark and we have to use torches) :22yikes::22yikes:
We have been talking it over a couple of Newcastle Brown Ales and we think that we are all in need of another Gillybration - Now that His Worship the Mayor has thrown it open, any date suggestions? :sing::sing:

As we were the only ones who brought a torch, we were not able to throw much light on the subject matter in hand. :police:
So His Worship the Mayor has (we think) decided to form a Faults, Lapses and Problems Solutions Sub-Committee (FLAPS), Chaired by Jimbo2012, with A4 as the Secratary, answerable to The Head of Administration Departments' Administration Assistant (who is very good at keeping people in check and preventing budget over-runs - well thats what it is called when she stops my pocket money) :sing:
The sheer volumne of problems on ChiefRose's and Kitty's builds spotted this morning after an in depth analysis of the plans by the Pre-dawn Early Risers Committee (PERC's), will be the subject of the FLAPS committees early focus, with A4's newly poured slab running a close third. - watch this space for further breaking news releases. Andy and I studied you plans and see they made some of the stretches larger than they were supposed to be so Rusty reported it to the builder to make two walls smaller, it will be ok by the time U get here.

Hey now....in my defense, it was freaking cold this morning...low 30's. :cold: It finally warmed up when the sun came out and I went back home to put on shorts! I will admit that my blood has thinned since moving to FL!
All of us except A-4 left after about 2 hours when the concrete hadn't arrived. I got home and had to walk Gracie. As we rounded the backside of Kilgore I heard the unmistakable sound of concrete trucks and thought that I was gonna have to call A-4 to come back to the lot. By the time I got there I saw that he had never left. A short time later, the others came back also after being summoned by A-4's emergency IM. So, we watched the slab being poured and then departed for our own abodes. A good time was had by all.

So, Betty and Joe, I walked thru your cement today! I saw your cucina and it looks even better in person! All your paint, both interior and exterior, anre complete and landscaping in. They dropped some green gunk in your drive and hopefully that will be cleaned up prior to your arrival. All your lights are in and complete but the electric meter is not there yet, so no electricity. It's looking very much like a home, and I like your darker tile! Carpet will be next... :a040: so congrats and see you next month!!! Abodanza!
HotRod . . . you're AMAZING !!! :bigbow:

Gayle, THANK YOU! I am so grateful for the support! I need to buy appliances, light fixtures, fans. Tried to save $ but it sure complicates moving to have to plan and execute so I'm not camping in the house very long. How did you manage the timing of closing and then getting appliances?
Kitty
When we came down for our design dates Dec 1-5, we knew what we needed and wanted. We did a little comparison shopping. We found our refridgerator was almost $900 more if we purchased it from TV. We found it for the best price at Home Depot. They will deliver on the date we chose which is the day after close. The rest of our appliances we were not allowed to get elsewhere because we had the built in double oven.
As for the washers and dryers, since we are camping out in our rental, we went out and comparison shopped and found a good price at Sears.
There are always sales going on. We have ordered other furniture from several different stores and all are fine with us choosing the delivery date to coinside with our close.
So if you need support let me know. I am here. Gayle:wave:

Last nights Slaberation was great. It was fun to reconnect with Gillylanders from Dec and meet new ones who have been here since. I cant believe that we are so lucky to be able to live here.
We went to our house on the way home last night. All the lights were on and the door unlocked. I found that weird since all the appliances are in. Well anyway, we total love our home. If any of you are in the 209 unit and feel like dropping in, be our guests to go visit our house. I think the builders have done a great job. If there are any flaws that you see, let us know so we can bring it up at our walk through in two weeks.

Well, if truth be known, I speak un poquito espanol and Italian, fairly fluent in Norwegian, and American. However, after having spent some time with our token Brits Andy and Wendy, I can now speak some "proper English" that I have picked up from them. I have been heard lately using a very important phrase "bits and bobs" that I have recently learned:a20:

Kitty,
You can definitely buy in advance and hold for delivery from many stores. You might be able to take advantage of Presidents Day sales from Home Depot, etc. and schedule delivery for when you close. We ordered our appliances on Black Friday and scheduled delivery for after our Feb. closing. Good luck!

Hi Everyone! My wife and I have just purchased a lot in the Village of Gilchrist and have a design meeting on July 9th. We've already got a rental residence lined up and can't wait to become official Villagers. We hope to be there by mid-July if the closing on our home goes as planned. If anyone else is going into Gilchrist please stop by and give us a post...
I think you are the first to say they are from Gilchrist. Welcome to you.
Hope you enjoy every second of a thousand years here with us! We live NORTH of you up in Laurel Valley!
Hello to our fellow Villagers! My husband and I just closed on a house in Gilchrist on 1/24/13. We are on the corner of De Foe & Olenda, #3029. For now we will be part time and probably rent out our house. We plan on coming down (from NY) every couple of months. Eventually we will become permanent residents.

Kitty, we bought all of our appliances through Home Depot here in Ohio. We have them scheduled for delivery and installation the day after we close 2/22. We will be sure to let you know how that goes. They have been great to work ip with so far and matched any lower price we found elsewhere. Appliances are to be delivered via the Home Depot in Lady Lake.

Kitty,
We did all our appliances through Sears. Had them delivered the afternoon we closed. Ordered about 8 weeks in advance. Moved no furniture, except my grand piano, so we did all our furniture through Southern Lifestyles. They say 8 - 10 weeks for order to arrive. Ours came in plenty early to be delivered and set up the day prior to closing. So we basically moved into a nearly complete house. Since they had the floor plan to work with, we knew where to put everything, and we knew it would fit.

Well, I have to admit that us mountain folk have always had the opinion that if we couldn't fix a problem with bailing wire or duct tape....just blow it up!

Speaking of blowing things up. This afternoon Janice and I were on the lanai enjoying a peaceful afternoon when all of a sudden we heard a shrill cry that sounded like a bottle rocket going off. I think the rocket you heard was the block being blewed up. As for the pit stop, I have a BLUE Monster at the curb for when the URGE hits me.
Big day today . . . they filled the block & headers with concrete, framing for the interior walls and insulation arrived, and the load of trusses are in the front yard. I hope we get that company that puts an American Flag on top when they top off the trusses.

I've been a Directv user since moving from the NE simple because they are the only ones who have the NFL package. (Fortunately do not need the package any longer) They do have an excellent picture so I will stay with them.
I signed up for Comcast for internet because they have higher speed than anyone else. I stream lots of video. (don't tell anyone but I stream Met and Jet games live) They are much more expensive than anyone else also....But they do have a reasonable rate the first year.

I have DTV in Chicago for 72 per month, no Internet or phone included.
Here I have Brighthouse cable and phone (no internet as I have a MiFi) for 90 bucks approx. It it 200 plus channels (many HD) and unlimited phone including Canada and Puerto Rico, not that I call there! If you add Internet it is 110 per month.

Dear Gillylanders.
Another catastrophe has hit the A4 build project.
A large length of roofing timber has been discovered and like the earlier 'Block', none of the workers on site know where it is supposed to go?

His Worship the Mayor has (we think) decided to launch the Faults, Lapses and Problems Solutions Sub-Committee (FLAPS) again, Chaired by Jimbo2012, with A4 as the Secratary, to see if a solution can be found as to what to do with the 'Spare Spar'. :pepper2::pepper2::pepper2:
Readers may remember that they resolved the 'Block' problem by blowing it up, apparantly a very common solution in West Virginia. :crap2::crap2:
This build for A4 is now reaching the volumn of problems found on ChiefRose's and Kitty's builds spotted a few mornings ago after an in depth analysis of the plans by the Pre-dawn Early Risers Committee (PERC's) and now the A4 build will be the subject of the FLAPS committees early focus instead. :jester::jester:

I'm not sure that we need to expend the precious financial resources of the Village on an inquiry such as this. If the workmen will simply place the offending spare spar near the trash bin and let our esteemed & talented scavenger in Fernandina know of it's existence, the problem will not be there in the a.m.

I made a couple of trips to A-4's hangar today. I noticed that a crane was on-site at about 7:30 this morning when I saw a truss high in the air (not much gets by me first thing in the a.m.). Went home and got Mom to take a ride over and saw A-4 on duty as usual. The rafters were almost all in place and some of the sheeting was on. After running over to Colony Plaza for Mom's haircut we made another trip to the hangar to find the roof trusses completely on. Took Mom back home and called A-4 about 2:00 to see if he needed some liquid refreshment. Then loaded up a Corona and bottle opener and ran over to the hangar again. Sat in A-4's ride and watched the final bit of tar paper being put on the house. All this time, poor A-4 was sitting in the golf car with his mouth open and shaking his head at the speed of construction.
I think it's safe to say that a good day was had by all!!!!

I did call the electric co. today to set up sevice but it is not on the grid yet, she said to give them a week!!!!
we have requested, thru our rep, an early am closing .... she is yet to hear .... how close before close did you lucky FROGS know when the walk thru and closing were scheduled?
Rainy and cold in Kennesaw (Atlanta metro) but my friends in Yankee area are waiting to get creamed ... good luck to all of them, and you if you are there...)
Looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks.....
Our house was finished about three weeks prior to original closing date. Since we were already here, I asked our rep if we could move up the closing date. He "ran it up the flagpole"' and the date was moved up by about 10 days. Cost us $250, but sooooooo worth it. Found out the time about a week before, if I remember correctly.

Coming from Tennessee we learned from our neighbors in West Virginia how to blewed up stuff. WVA was the ones that taught us Rocky Toppers to say, "Hey Y'all . . . . watch this" just before the big one.

Hey guys, I finally found a lender who gets the complicated tangle of my financial picture!!:MOJE_whot:
So it's a pig ear for Emma the boxer (who gnawed it and then shoveled it into the dirt with her nose), fish for the cat, Raul (only word he can say), and champagne and steak for ME!

Hi Kitty,
Well done, that brings things a little closer - yes?
Jimbo, Chief of the FLAPS, sent us round your house and A4's today with a tape measure to check a few things over, your house now appears ok and back on track, but A4's still appears to have a few problems. :ho:
Our Chief will be reporting our findings back to His Worship the Mayor for his judgement as to what we ought to do and we just hope he doesn't decide to blow it up and make the builders start again because that seems to be a popular way of dealing with problems around here. :boom:
Perhaps a few Corona's handed out to the building team (or the FLAPS team) may smooth the few wrinkles out to everyones satisfaction. :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

I'm not going to say which one yet, I want to see if he spots it or not!

Stopped by your house for a few minutes today, Kitty. Wanted to examine the Roman Forum constructed on the back. Wow! The mudders were mudding and the columns look great. Holy cow! How big is that enclosure going to be? Actually, we were wondering the dimensions of that swimming hole. We're contemplating adding one eventually, and I can't figure out what size is what.

thanks for the report! I don't know dimensions, it all happened so fast! I was told that my pool design put 10 pounds into a 5 pound hole. You might compare the lantana I used as a model at the north end of amherst, which has a similar design for pool but a huge birdcage. I used every inch of the lot I could with priority on the house and then whatever would fit for the lanai/pool. So it's a bit squeezed...the cad drawing has the pool width at 9' in front of the fountain, and 29' from deep end to the hot tub. If I can be of more help, let me know.

Keep in mind (if adding after the build)that you can add a fiberglass pool for about 40% of the cost of concrete.
About $10-15,000 v $$$$
There are several advantages in glass pools.
Easier to keep clean due to smooth surface.
Quick install 3-4 days
No need to resurface in a few years like concrete which cost several thousand $$
Hard to tell the difference in the look of the pool.

Isnt it amazing how fast they get these houses up? Ours is 99.5% done. They are just working on knicks and bruises.
We heard of our closing date about a couple of weeks ago. We are closing on the 20th and are excited. Looking forward to meeting you. Gayle

We had the opportunity yesterday to meet our new across the street neighbors, Jeff and Nancy. We talked for just a short time as the rain was coming and their moving van was coming. They are very very nice and will be great neighbors to have. Their house is very beautiful. I told them about the blog. Gayle and Mike

We just got a message from our son in the Chicago area. He works at a beautiful place that is part museum for war, plants and trees (he is an arborist) and a 27 hole golf course. They used over 5500 pounds of salt today and probably that much tomorrow. It is icy and snowy. Sure makes me glad we are here!!!! Whoopee!

I missed your question about the size of the enclosure. It's 55' at the rear width and looks like about 31' deep (including lanai).

Of course there will be partaaaays! Full moon Gillyfests, Gilly Girls grill night, Omelet flipping contests, Gator football smackdowns!
Lots of those square feet are in the pool, so we can get more people in if half of Gillyland hangs out in the pool with their Coronas on the edge.
