Hi Everyone! Thanks for all of the good wishes for the walk through and close tomorrow morning. I went to the bank this afternoon and got the closing check. The lender didn't tell me the final amount until about 3:30pm and I made a mad dash so I wouldn't have to worry about being on time in the morning. I don't believe we'll have any problems since the lenders agent called day before yesterday and told us that the loan was back from the underwriters with no problem. When I was coming back from the bank this afternoon I drove by the house (of course) and noticed that TV had even cut the lawn for our home and the neighbor directly behind us whose home is also finished. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised but thought it was a nice touch to have everything looking good for the closing.
I agree with Twin that it seems like time has flown by since this thread was started on July 9th and here we are with 25 pages of posts and who knows how many views! I think it says something about the kind of people with whom we will be living.
For those of you who aren't here yet, patience...lol. You'll get here soon enough and the rest of us will be waiting for you with a cold one/glass of wine. Don't worry, we won't be partied out when you get here! For those of you who are just starting to build, patience...lol. The time will go by faster than you will realize. For those of us that are here...LET THE PARTY BEGIN!!!!
Seriously, the process has been relatively painless and the well oiled machine that we know as TV knows how to do business (at least most of the time).
I'll get pics of CalcTeachers & HotRods builds tomorrow when we go for the walk through.
HotRod & Twin...I'll try not to let the new house get in the way of my neighborhood watch and photographic duties!!!
Terp...we need to get together for drinks before you go back home.
A-4...ya better hurry up and get your butt down here!!!
Talk to y'all tomorrow!!!
WVMtnBoy, may your closing and move in go smoothly!

I am wondering when they will pull out their cars for tailgating. That is the most village spirit ever. I mean Ferns are nice and hospitable but I didn't have anyone bringing me a beer. Wow. Gillies are taking on a whole new image for welcoming in. BTW: Beware of the water lady who will arrive as you move in telling you your water needs fixing and wants to sell you the "system". DO NOT OFFER HER A BEER.

Hey HotRod!! When we were at the house this morning you still had a bare concrete slab. When we went back about 5:15pm you had walls. Making progress!!!
Congrats

Hi Calc!!! Since yesterday was a no go I thought I'd check on progress this morning before we did our walk through. At about 9:30am there was still nothing. I decided to check again this afternoon at about 5:15pm and there is a crew surveying and marking for the footers. I'm guessing that you will have sand moved tomorrow sometime. I'll continue to keep and eye on it for you guys and get pics as they go. In the meantime...enjoy a few pics of your survey crew! Progress is being made!!
:coolsmiley:
PS - The house beside you is going up like gangbusters!

Hi Trish! Please, please, oh please pick a lot in the 209 Section of Gilchrist. I promise that you haven't had this much fun since you were a kid!!! We'd love to have ya and we have to gain numbers on the Fernandina's in the FernGilly spreadsheet!

Hey Everyone! Now that I've got my photographic/neighborhood watch duties out of the way I can sort of recap the day. We met the builder (Steve West) and our super agent (Jason Kranz) at the house this morning at 10:00 for the walk through. Took about an hour and we noticed a few minor things such as paint touch up, etc. Steve went over each system of the house with us and gave us an owners sheet to record any deficiencies we might have. We will call him in about 2 weeks to give him the list. Bottom line is we are very satisfied with the house and the builder.
We left the house and went by HotRods and CalcTeachers to check on progress, take pictures, etc. On to the closing dept (had to stop at Starbucks on the way) and began closing promptly at 11:30. About 1 1/2 hours later we emerged with house keys, mailbox keys, gate passes and Villages ID cards. I can now prove that I am a frog!!! The closing went very smoothly and the only problem I had with the closing agent was when she tried to pry the closing check out of my hand!!!
We then went back to BestBuy to pick up the tv and buy a speaker dock for the iPod. Back to the condo, loaded up the back of the Expedition and back to the house. WHEW!
Now comes the process of moving out of the condo and emptying the storage unit. Our main furniture won't be here for another 3 weeks so we're going to take out time doing the move. Deliveries to the new house start tomorrow with accent painting being done next Wednesday and attic stairs and epoxy covering on the garage on the 15th.
We are extremely pleased with the whole process and really would do it all over again.
Hope all of you are well and that the waiting doesn't get too hard.
I've got two lots on the watch list...HotRod and CalcTeacher. Anyone else want in on the photos/neighborhood watch list???

Hi Shcisamax!!! Us Gillys are offering incentives to relocate to Section 209 if you're interested...rofl. I don't know if we're any nicer (probably not) but I think we might be a tad bit crazier that the rest...rofl.

Atta Boy, WV! You are doing an outstanding job of neighborhood photographer:bigbow: It is so amazing to see our neighborhood being built and I couldn't be happier with the results! WV: Congrats on your successful closing...and thanks for the pics! We keep saying we're not going to come down (from Virginia) during the build, but I bet we end up making a weekend trip at some point. I'm not sure we can wait until closing! That house next to us went up overnight...do you have any idea who bought it? There's also what appears to be a finished one directly across the street from me . . .any idea who's there?
Again, many congrats to you and Janice. And while I'm sure it was difficult letting go of that check, what you bought today (and the neighborhood you bought it in) will pay you back ten-fold.

And I was going to ask you if you knew who was next door! I have a completed home next to me and have met the man (Dave) who seems very nice. Have not met his wife yet. And across from me is also a completed house though I have no idea if it is occupied as yet. Hope they like get-togethers on the fly!:clap2:

What are the incentives besides beer? I have done an awful lot of work here... actually I don't think I could give up this lot...all golf course with no house in sight except one wee little top of a roof. Yeah, I don't think I can move. And I would have to find a lot for stretches. It gets tougher and tougher. I think they are shaving the lots. :) BUT...doesn't mean I won't be wandering down there to welcome you all.
I actually drove down this afternoon in hopes of catching WV. But alas just alot of construction folks. Wow between Fern and Gill, the construction is incredible.
Yesterday, I saw the most astounding thing. An oak tree on a flat bed. It must have been 50 years old. It was easily 30 ft higher than any roof. It was driving down Pinellas presumably to Brownwood? and it would have been really strange to see it behind the houses moving if you didn't know it was on a truck.
I will make a run down to Gilly tomorrow, I am sure. What is your address?

I'm going to be at the house for the majority of the day. Closet organizer at 8:00 and W/D delivery at 10:00. Then off to get the new golf car by 2:00. If you're in the area please stop by! I'll be at 3037 Bradshaw Lane. And, of course, you and any other Fern's are welcome to come by Gillyland any time you'd like to drop by!!!

I have no idea who owns the house next to CalcTeacher or across the street from her? HotRod's neighbors, Dave & Meredith, seem to be really nice people. Janice was inspecting HotRod's walls late this afternoon and was talking to both of them.

Rusty . . . . You had a great day today. We were all there with you. :bigbow:
I had a couple of new adds and some updates to the spreadsheet and sent it back out to everyone on it. One of them said "OMG . . . I just found out who my neighbor is". That's what the list is all about and will be used to send out the invitation for when we FLASH MOB Paddock Square at Brownwood. If you're a real man, you'll go up to the adult learning place and take a Line Dancing class with a few of us before the FLASH MOB.:a040:
Now back to business . . . . . how about some pictures of that craft room and the new pantry area:clap2:
Congrats on your GREAT DAY !!!

Hey A-4! Don't count me out of the line dancing class. I'm more than willing to learn and dance. The knee is progressing nicely, thank you....:a20:
Was up at 6:30 this morning to be at the house by 8:00 for the closet installer. Also took a load of stuff. He was done in about 4 hours and we couldn't be more pleased with the results. Sears also delivered the stove at about 12:30 so that's done with. We also picked up the Queens Ride (new golf car) :crap2: at 2:00 and just got back from that. I an whipped.
Tomorrow consists of helping Janice's aunt for a while and then Macy's delivers the lanai furniture.
Monday, I don't even want to think about...deliveries all day long except for a well deserved break while meeting with TerpDawg for happy hour at the Bonita Country Club before he hightails it back to Maryland to await the birth of a new grandchild!
Last night we took a load of "stuff" to the house but we can't stay there yet because the matresses aren't going to be there until Monday. I did, however, stop by Publix this a.m. and get beer, wine and soda so we're set. The Keurig is also set up and ready for use.
TerpDawd stopped by this morning for a great visit and brought more Corona...I'm a rich man with all of these friends. As Terp was leaving, Shcisamax stopped by for a visit too! Great people!!!
Unfortunately, I had to cancel dinner with Jimbo tonight and I feel terrible about that put I'm just too pooped to pop. We'll do it soon, I promise.
Batman...you're the "list" but you'll have to remind me of your build date.
HotRod...you've got full walls (pics to follow).
Calc...you've got sand moved and rough in plumbing done, I think (pics to follow).
That's about it for now...I really need a nap...

Wow! Me thinks you have too much on your schedule! I don't know how you keep up! But then, you're the young one! I thought you retired! Some of us had better get there to offer aid!
It was awesome you were able to meet with TerpDawg and Shcisamax today, but I'm so sorry you had to cancel with the mysterious Jimbo. Well maybe not so mysterious after his pic was posted on TOTV! I am anxious to know what they will end up with but the important thing is that he said he'd have beer on tap!!!
Put your feet up, pop the top on a Corona and have a pleasant weekend!

TerpDawg is in the process of going on the spread sheet. Shcisamax needs to PM me so I can get her info.
Rusty . . . . . what is the name of the company that did your closets?
WVMtnBoy
09-28-2012, 09:03 PM
I found the closet man on TOTV and his name is Buzz Buzby of Closet Crafters. He and his partner did a great job and Janice was very satisfied. In and out in 4 hours and cleaned up what little mess they made. He did the mater bedroom and the front bedroom. I would highly recommend him for anyone looking for a nice closet system.

I went by the house this evening and finished putting together a Martha Stewart chair we bought at Home Depot (never again) and decided to take a break. I thought about all the Corona in the fridge and decided that one would taste awfully good! Went in to the fridge and then paused...no bottle opener. Not to fear...when ya want a cold one a screw driver carefully applied will pop a top right off!
Went out to the lanai and then had another flash of brilliance. So, here's a salute to HotRod and her new home!!! :clap2:

WV: I wonder if there's a way...since you can see my house and HotRod's house from your place...to entince who ever have or will buy the lots inbetween to simply not build. That way, when it's time to toss back a cold one you simply strike the same pose and that will be a reminder for us to take the pause that refreshes...

It's now only a week away until we start the adventure down and begin designing our new home--thanks for all your help with the tips and suggestions. It's great to see the pictures of the new houses as they unfold--Rusty you're a gem! Jim missed seeing the beer in the pictures when The Villages showed us all their pictures--he likes your shots so much better:laugh: Our first stop will be Hilton Head for a few days of fun in the sun and then will be arriving in Gilcrest in time for a early happy hour--can't wait to see the progress!
Twin! I am so excited for you to begin that journey! Enjoy the trip down and keep us all posted on your progress along the way. And be sure to PM or e-mail if you have questions! Did you make a decision yet for which house or will you do some walk-throughs when you get there to get a feel? Best of luck, enjoy the trip and keep the info coming!

I have at least two very nice bottle openers at the condo thanks to a certain wonderful neighbor but the package has yet to make it to the house...hence the screwdriver...lol. But I will steal a phrase from the USMC "Improvise, Adapt and Overcome!" I wanted a beer to salute my new neighbors and I wasn't going to let a little hiccup keep me down. So, due to my superior problem solving skills, Calc and Hotrod got their beer salutes!
Based on Calc's suggestion I'm going to go to the vacant lots between Calcl, HotRod and myself and put up signs that say "UNAVAILABLE" on them and see what happens!
Twin - I hope you guys have a wonderful trip down and please get in touch with us when you get here so we can get together for drinks/dinner. We would love to meet you guys!
Tomorrow should be a big day for HotRod & Calc. I foresee a roof in Hotrods future and a large cement pour for Calc. Since I'm going to be at the house all day tomorrow for deliveries I will do my best to get pics of the crane and cement truck to post later on. I wish someone would get down here to help me because the neighborhood watch/photographic duties are keeping me hopping. Oh wait, that's what Frogs do isn't it?????

You're not confused. The house with the hip roof is the spec house 2 lots south of ours. The house with the gable roof looks to be next door to our lot just to the north. Not much progress today on either home but Calc does have the footers poured. I have no idea when the construction crew did that. She also has concrete block on site for the walls!!
HotRod had some deliveries today such as roof sheeting and tar paper. I'm surprised that a crane didn't show up and do the roof trusses.
I'll still keep an eye on things tomorrow.
We had a bunch of deliveries today (sofa, love seat, office sofa, dining room chairs, matresses) and Brighthouse Cable also hooked up the TV. Pantry cabinets and craft room storage cabinets and the painter are Wednesday.
Had a nice "Happy Hour" with TerpDawg at the house (had to get a bottle of scotch to make him feel welcome and at home) before he heads back north. Safe travels Terp!!!

Rusty: Can't thank you enough for the pictures. Not being there is really frustrating! This is the fourth house we have built and with the others we would drive everyday to the new homesite (all the houses were within 15 miles of each other) and look at what had been done. So for you to so graciously take pics for us is a gift! Like I said earlier, we probably won't be able to stay away...already spoke to my husband (Ed) about the possibility of flying down the weekend of Nov. 10th--sort of a half-way point in the build. My husband can't believe that a total stranger is being this thoughtful...but I told him I think this is the kind of neighborhood we'll be moving into. Wait...I don't think...I KNOW it's the kind of neighborhood we'll be moving into.

HotRod: Clarify "pups." We have a St. Bernard...not exactly a pup. Hahaha! Hoping he acclimates ok to The Villages...
Not sure if we'll be there for closing...we might end up closing by mail. Not sure if we'll make it down there for the holidays, either. Any "moving" we might do will be over Spring Break (I'm a school teacher)...which this year is the last week in March. We will not be permantly moving until June/July.
Am in suspense about our build...Ed and I have talked about making a mid-build trip the weekend of Nov. 10th. No plane tix purchased yet...but I'm fairly certain we're going to do it.

There was a mix up yesterday with the cabinets. They are now scheduled to be delivered on Thursday. Depending upon the time of delivery, I should have pics either late Thursday or Friday. Hey Everyone! Well, I guess it's time to let the cat out of the bag. It's been a long running joke between A-4, Hotrod and myself about how much A-4 owes us in beer for questions answered and measurements taken! It had gotten so bad that A-4 was ready to bring a Corona truck to TV to pay his debt. So, he cooked up the idea of telling me that I was going to have a big surprise on Wednesday...really amping up the pressure and stress factor! But, to his chagrin, the USPS was more efficient than he ever thought they could be and his surprise arrived early, on Tuesday evening.
After all the machinations, A-4 did me a solid....here it is...
I know that A-4 is a jet jockey and I've been around those guys enough to know that they always do something off the wall and never do anything half way so I had no idea what to expect. I will say that he hit the nail on the head and made a perfect decision. As a result of his good neighborliness, I consider all of his beer debt to have been paid in full! Although, he still has to settle up with Hotrod!!!

Now, for the rest of the story. The painter arrived at the house at 7:30 sharp and got both accent walls painted in about 2 hours. The cabinets for the pantry and craft room arrived about an hour after the painter left. The driver was a nice guy who let me borrow his hand truck to get the monsters in the house and set in place in the pantry. Janice got there just in time to help me put together one of the two craft room cabinets. By the time that was done I was whipped and decided to let the other one go until tomorrow. Went home and took a nap!
At 6:30 we met Andy & Wendy at the Lighthouse for dinner & drinks before they take the flight across the pond tomorrow! Wonderful & funny people and we had a blast enjoying their company. I hope they hurry back soon (November) so Andy can sample some hand crafted stout that is proper beer. Just another confirmation that Gilchrist is going to rock when we all get there!
Tomorrow morning the movers are emptying out the storage unit and trucking the last of our meager possessions to the new house. The final move is scheduled for Friday which just consists of rounding up the stray items in the condo and finally sleeping in our new home. Can't wait till this process is over!
Checked on CalcTeacher and Hotrods build very quickly today. There was some grading work going on at Calc's home but I was so tired when I left the house I didn't check to see what was going on. Had to drive by Hotrod's digs when we left and she now has a roof and windows in her humble abode. Tomorrow should be interesting on both lots. I'll post pics of Hotrod's sometime tomorrow if I survive the day. I've also got pics of the accent walls (new reading area) in the living room and the storage cabinets in the pantry and craft room that I will try to get up ASAP.
So, that's the rest of the story. I'm beat and have to be up early in the a.m. Hope everyone has a great night!

Well, today I watched the workers put the shingles on Hotrod's house whenever I took a break and sat on the lanai. Coming along quite nicely. They were about half way done when I left around 2:00 so I would be surprised if it's not completely under cover by now. There are also 2x4's in the garage for the interior studs. Really making progress...

I can't quite figure out what's going on over there. The workers were doing more grading work on the lot today plus more underground plumbing. Probably a good thing I'm not a construction supervisor..... You can't see much in the pic but here it is like I promised!!!

Why is MY house so slooooow? Why are they grading again? This is nerve-wracking! Send them evil death stares from the lanai, Rusty!
But thanks for the picture! Maybe I'll be the first Villages house that doesn't close on time...haha. NOT.

Rusty, the cabinets look awesome as does the accent wall you posted! I might add (please don't tell Janice-it's too creepy) that I have the same color couch and was contemplating an accent color very close to yours. Mirror shirts, mirror houses???? Jeez! Good luck with the rest of your move and perhaps I need to coordinate with you first before I do anything on the inside?

Mine actually looks like a house now, and there are windows even!:a040: I am amazed at the progress and almost hope they are not moving TOO quickly. On the other hand, I see that there is little progress on yours, CalcT.... Wonder what the deal is? Perhaps a call to your agent or design team person for an explanation? It will take a while to build that castle of yours, and it would be nice to see some walls going up! :undecided: please keep us posted.....

We like accent wall colors, except what I don't like is getting stuck with the paint brush.
One reason the two houses are going at different rates may be two different builders, if you look at your the set of building plans, 9 pages (I know both of you have a set, right?) in the upper right hand corner is the builders name.
Or call your rep to get a copy and ask for the builders tel#
hotrodgirl
10-04-2012, 08:13 PM
True. I received my builders name when I signed my paperwork, and luckily my agent knew him. As did her manager. They had many accolades for his work. I DO have building plans!! Calc's could be a time lapse between the graders and builders if they are finishing somewhere else...

Don't get all stressed & frustrated Calc! I guarantee you that the house will be finished on time. There are too many disincentives for the builder to miss the date. Ours had a hiccup during construction and the teams worked Saturdays to make sure everything was in order. Now that our move will be complete tomorrow I can spend a little more time observing and looking at the lot after the workers have gone home in the evening. I hate to go over during the day and get in their way. We'll keep you posted!
Hotrod...I picked the color...lol. Must have been a lucky shot on my part! You're right, this is just getting scarier by the moment but I love it! :a040: In case you're interested I also do "put together cabinet work" very cheaply!

Just finished our design today(Thursday) and signed the contract for a Gardenia on Mockingbird Lane. Phil Haskins was the designer we worked with and he was great. He was a builder before coming to the Villages 15 years ago so he knows what can and can't be done and not much can't be done. If you have seen anything anyone else has done and like it, it can be yours too. Want more stretch to the lanai than the standard 2 or 4 foot? If your lot can handle it, you can add at least 6 ft as we did. Don't be afraid to ask. Our house has stretch marks all over. So now the waiting for the closing on Dec 21.

Ggalloway6: Where are you building on Mockingbird? Not too many spots left on the GC. And the other side of the road is starting to build equally fast. When we moved in on Mockingbird at the end of June, there were only five houses. It looks like a metropolis now. How nice to get a six foot stretch on the lanaii! As similar as each of the houses are, they are all so totally different after we all put our changes on them. Rusty and Janice added a kickbottom craft room for Janice. It is not only neat but is really pretty with all the windows. Great use of space. We added a small office in hopes of getting small bills :) The other night I was out around 8:30 p.m. and there were guys on a roof in the pitch black working. Unbelievable. Welcome to Mockingbird.

Got an education about my house today and why it's taking so long. Something about the slight incline (grade) it's on means they have to do a stem wall foundation versus a monolithic foundation. Stem Wall foundations take 5 - 7 days longer because they're done in pieces/stages. I think I officially have my Guy Card because I actually understood this when my designer called me! Hahaha!

Hey Calc! I knew it was something with the foundation and the grade. It appeared that they did the footers and about 2-3 courses of block. Then they backfilled the foundation and put a layer of block that had been cut in half lengthwise. Gracie and I checked it out this evening. They've got a layer of plastic sheeting over the sand and that's usually a sign that concrete is forthcoming. So, you're making progress!
HotRod...you lucky girl! You've got interior walls. Gracie and I also did a post-work hours inspection at this location this afternoon. Looks like all your interior walls are finished and you can see the actual layout of the house. Very nice!!! You also have a border of tile around the top edge of your pool!
Congrats to both! I'm going to take pics for you both in the morning.
We finally moved out of the condo today and will spend the first night in the new house. I'm almost too tired to enjoy it but it's nice being "home"!
New builds are starting on HotRod's former lot, another two houses west of Calc which belongs to Andy & Wendy (I think) and another to the west of the house directly behind us. But back to Calc's foundation, I have no idea what they did or why. I do know that footers were poured, 2-3 courses of block laid and then the foundation space was backfilled once the underground plumbing was in. In one of the pics you can see where block was cut in half lengthwise. It looks like this was done to give the foundation something to cling to but I really don't know. We have decided to change our handle to one that is more relevant to us 'Junction29', as we live close to J29 of the M1 in the UK, we have bought Plot 29 in Gilchrist and for years now have pretended to be 29 years old! after that old phrase "Oh to be 29 again"

I hope you're right about a buyer being just around the corner. We live in a miniature version of The Villages in a retirement golfing community called Tellico Village. Most of the people who live here are from further north and wanted to escape the high taxes, cost of living, and SNOW. People who come here from up north want to be within a days drive of kids and grand kids. We love it here, but after getting a taste of The Villages, we love it there even more. So we'll sell here, store our stuff, move to our cottage in Sanibel, and then design & build a Zinnia in Fernandina 206.

Wow A-4 Skyhawk
Made the mistake of following the link to your lovely home 'up north', very surprised that you are having trouble selling it, it looks really great.
A good job we have already bought in TV otherwise Wendy would probably 'force' me to buy yours, she really likes it.
We will pass on your home site details to any of our friends that are looking to perhaps buy in the states to see if there is any interest there.
This type of home at this price is really good value for us in the UK with the current exchange rate between the dollar and the pound

Hi John & Wendy aka 29ers!
When does your build begin and when do you anticipate coming back to TV? I am now in full swing and can't hardly contain myself with each new picture! Hopefully we will all get to meet you this winter and can get to know one another! I look forward to it and best of luck to you!

I don't think we're having trouble selling our house because of the house or the price. I just think that people north of Florida are scared about the economy, their investments, and how upside down the northern housing market is. This time of year, with the leaves starting to show color, is when people from SNOW country are here looking for a milder climate they can afford to retire in. Our Broker says the lookers just aren't here this year. Wouldn't you know it. Sooner or later it'll sell . . . . we just want it sooner. By the time I get there, Rusty and HotRod will have drunk all the Corona (anoroC) and sold my damn Corona Truck:sing:

A-4, LOVE your home in TN and glad you are willing to leave such a wonderful place to come and be with us in TV! Not sure who your realtor may be, but there are people here in IL who retire down your way. Wondering if they have passed the link on to realtors here, as TN is becoming an increasingly popular destination for northerners! Hope you have an offer very soon! Can't wait to see what you do with your new home! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

I feel like mine is being brought to you by the Little Builder That Could! I got a plastic sheet! Yaa-hoo! And Rusty: I gotta tell you -- when I was in high school, I used to sit by the phone waiting for a special boy to call. Now, I feel like I'm sitting by the PC waiting for a special Corona-loving boy to post pictures of my house! Hahahaha! Can't thank you enough! I really thought the sky view of one of the pictures was quite beautiful! My parents are back in town...so I might relieve you of your picture-taking responsibilities! HotRod: your house looks great! So exciting!!
Wait til next week! The progress should be absolutely amazing! You will be caught up in no time and enjoying all those pictures! I live in anticipation of seeing how things are progressing and am always amazed at what gets done! It amazes me, and even my general contractor with whom I partner up here! Your castle will be up and running soon!

Not being there must be raising your anxiety level I suppose.
We have our design date of 12/13...assuming the 15th we sign off they should begin just before or after Christmas.
We'll be there by Dec 1st, but will go back for the holiday, returning the 27th, just in time to bug the builder everyday during the build.
Sitting here in NY on a cool rainy day sketching the master bath, I now have 4 versions.
Next is the front bedrooms thinking about bumping (30") out BD #2 even across with bd #1, that's easy.
See floor plan (http://www.thevillages.com/homes/newlyconstructed/images/featuresheet/Whispering-Pine-FP.pdf)
The standard plan would just be having a straight across facade with two flat dbl windows on each.
Was thinking perhaps of a bow window on bd # 2 with a witches hat?
Or just two bows one on each bdrm.
Any ideas welcome

Dear all,
Now back in the UK and missing TV already, can't wait to get back.
We had the pleasure of meeting Rusty and Janice for a night out, the night before we flew back and we can tell you that they are a great couple in person, not just in print!and we are now more convinced than ever that our time in TV and Gilchrist will be great and maybe a little crazy.
We have decided to change our handle to one that is more relevant to us 'Junction29', as we live close to J29 of the M1 in the UK, we have bought Plot 29 in Gilchrist and for years now have pretended to be 29 years old! after that old phrase "Oh to be 29 again"
We also loved meeting you and Wendy and we can't wait until you get back!!! Your build hasn't started yet but be assured that when it does you will have pictures of it all! I'm glad you had a good trip back over the pond! Now...GET BACK HERE!!! :crap2:

I think you will be happy with as many stretches as you can.If you choose to make the 2 bedrooms straight across the front, I would do something to give that area some differentiation. I would put a straight bay in one of them only, both for character and the fact that the straight bay allows for more space. I chose that for my front bedroom, but that was just what I liked. You may very well differ on that!
So excited for you and can't believe you have 4 sketches for the master bath! You are better at thinking that through than I am:sigh: I think in hindsight I may have made 2 smal changes, one structural, but too late now! In the end result I know I will be thrilled wth the outcome.
I am so excited for everyone building and it will be most interesting to see all the changes and how our homes differ and complimet each owner!

Has anyone done the payback calculation on solar for a pool or hot tub? With the low utility rates in TV, I'm not sure if it would be worth the cost to install and having an eyesore on the roof.
jimbo2012

Has anyone done the payback calculation on solar for a pool or hot tub? With the low utility rates in TV, I'm not sure if it would be worth the cost to install and having an eyesore on the roof.
Typical payback is is 3-4 years considering a quick 30% from your fed taxes maybe quicker. Also if you didn't install propane or elec heat in the first place what would that save.
But it needs to be designed correctly to begin with.
The pool/spa ROI is much quicker than PV (electric)
Now as far as an eyesore, you can't do much about the panels themselves and if that bothers U the inquiry can end there.
I think the eyesore at least to me is that the installers at TV and I think it's all, not just one, run all the pipes along the roof sometimes in the middle of the roof line.
Those pipes can be installed and mostly hidden if done in a more professional manner. They can tuck udder the eves for example or put into a chase, many ways to hide them from view. They can be wrapped in materiel that blends with the roof not "black".
When I do mine you will not see them like that....for sure.

CalcTeacher and Coopersdad!!!! I told my wife that I had to go take an anti-hissy fit pic of the concrete pad being poured at their home. jimbo2012
10-09-2012, 07:08 PM
There are 2 poured Allamanda & Cedar.
The cedar was the same plan as the WP (frame) we selected but was 17K more.
The Allamanda (with Fl room) same as bougainvillea about 10K more
WVMtnBoy
10-09-2012, 07:12 PM
The poured concrete is on the street to the west of us. I thought that's what they were doing when I saw the forms on the ground. It was interesting. They put the frames up for the forms late one evening, fixed the forms the next day and poured that afternoon. Interesting to say the least. Janice suggested that they were survivalists and wanted no windows but that got shot down when the forms came off today and there were windows. I didn't realize that poured walls were an option. It appears cheaper labor wise but required more material. I can't figure out whether it was cheaper or some kind of test for a new building style that TV is considering. It'll be interesting to talk to the owners and find out the rest of the story!

We do think it might start a new fashion though and having one out front for anyone to use is real neighbourly, although it could be expensive in toilet tissue if it proves popular.
Are we talking portopotty? If we are, I can only say that they are built to last. The other night, someone, who was in a very good mood, completely totaled their front end on one and the potty showed absolutely no damage. Color isn't everything.
BTW: I have temporarily renamed our street which is under uber construction Portopotty Promenade.

So CaptJohn, are you ever going to leave the Panhandle and come on dwn to TV? If you move to Golchrist we'll leave the light on for you!
Thanks. Actually, I'm mentally there already but it's the physical part that is complicating everything! Save me a lot. If WV wants immediate neighbors I could park an RV on one of the lots and visit some til the powers throw me out!

Sorry about that. You've already started building so I doubt you should think about swapping from an Elm to a Zinnia. I need to check my own Spreadsheet more often to see where our friends are in the process:shrug:

Sorry for the absence yesterday. Janice and I were up and out early to do some much needed errands. After we got home, more stuff to do and then off to help with Janice's uncle in the evening.
What a day this has been already! Concrete poured at the site behind and to the east of us and watching that was interesting. I have some really great news for a neighbor but it'll have to wait until this evening when I can get pics after the workers leave. Hope the suspense doesn't get too bad!

Hi Calc and CoopersDad!!! You guys must be having a run of luck and I'd recommend that you buy lots of lottery tickets. Once again, you are the daily winners of the "most obvious progress" construction contest!!!! Prizes will be awarded at a future time to be determined solely by the judge (me).
You guys have had a busy day. You have walls!!!!! :a040: The final portions of block went up late yesterday and the workers just quit filling the holes in the top of the block at this very moment (7:30pm). I don't know if the pool has been poured, sorry.
I hope you enjoy the pics!!!
