:wave:Congratulations to all of you with your upcoming closings. What an exciting time! We are still in upstate NY and received about 11" of snow today and it is still falling. For those of you we haven't met, hope to do so soon. For those we have met, we miss you all! Take care and enjoy.:beer3:

Our photographer extrodinaire, HotRodGirl, sent us some wonderful pics this evening. We are so excited and looking forward to closing on 2/22!
3031 Amherst Way......right next door to HotRodGirl!
You guys--beautiful house--I bet you're excited to get down there and see it in person :coolsmiley: Wish we could all be together to have a celebration--but all in due time!

Thanks again for the Corona and visits today Rusty
I've been away from this post for about a week and have to catch up :ohdear: Aren't you amazed at the spped and progress they make daily on your house? You guys are lucky to be down there to see it first hand and get to take in all the changes daily--we we so amazed when we got the pictures to see how much progress was made in the short length of time. It looks great-can't wait to see it at the end of March.

Hi Everyone! We have a new neighbor in town, SMills. I believe they're down for their design meeting and didn't get a chance to get to the Gathering last Tuesday.
They're free tomorrow and I was thinking about suggesting a Gathering tomorrow night (Sunday 8-10).
So what say ye Gillies???

Of course there will be partaaaays! Full moon Gillyfests, Gilly Girls grill night, Omelet flipping contests, Gator football smackdowns!
Lots of those square feet are in the pool, so we can get more people in if half of Gillyland hangs out in the pool with their Coronas on the edge.
Kitty--that sounds like so much fun--we'll be ready to meet you when we come back at the end of March--you should be just about moved in by then--can't wait. :coolsmiley:

Second that motion from Linda--been thinking about all our East Coast friends and wondering how much snow they got? We were lucky and after the rain turned into ice only ended up with a little over 2 inches. You guys stay warm--Spring is only 6 weeks away and you have The Villages and all your friends for a lifetime!! :) Hope to see you soon.

We saw A-4's house yesterday after we saw the concrete that was just poured at our house in Gilchrist 214, Vicksburg Ave. (see attached pics). Sorry about Bruce's finger on the second pic, as he is getting use to using his new cellphone camera and can be a little technologically deficient LOL. I can't believe that by next week our home will look like A-4's does yesterday. It is really magnificent to see, and your home will be beautiful, A-4.

Kayta, welcome to Gilchrist. Yes, we do live in Webster. I have lived here all my life. We built a home in Sanibel last summer and are not yet full time to TV. We come down quite often but hope to be FROGS by end of year. The weather should be better next week if you are coming up north, but it is cold. Hope to meet you soon. This forum is great and we have many great people on this string. Spent New Years with many of them.

Hi Linda and Rich, thanks so much for the compliment, and we still do appreciate all your assistance with our design appointment. You really helped us to not overlook important items or changes that would be hard to take care of later...in fact we went to the glass door store, Entrypoint by Perry's, and not only did we find just what we are looking for (french style fleur de lis door), but we saved thousands. And we extended the driveway, and many other things you suggested...thanks again...can't wait to meet you.

Panic set in in Greater Gillyland this morning when A4 arrived to view the daily progress on their lot.
Cries of anguish were heard and clouds of sand dust from kicking feet were spotted as A4 arrived on Site Sunday morning to find that no workmen were present! :MOJE_whot:
The cries were so loud that His Worship the Mayor mobilised the PERC’s (who are fast coming to the conclusion that they will never get any) and sent the Lady Mayoress to summon A4’s better half and Mum to come quick.
Dave arrived with a pair of pliers and a screwdriver, hoping that it was an electrical problem that he could solve and thinking that A4 had had an electric shock and was quite disappointed that it wasn't - (it is thought that as a former Electrician, he is perhaps suffering withdrawl systems from not having regular electric shocks since retireing)
With the help of Gracie, Millie, Rosie and Sweetie nipping at his heels, a distraught A4 was herded into a corner so that he could be calmed down and the situation explained to him. :doggie::doggie::doggie::doggie: - (Dave's pliers came in useful to tighten the ties used to hold A4 still when we cornered him).
Junction29 was dispatched to run home (he walked swiftly) to fetch some Newcastle Brown Ale, which is reputed to have a therapeutic and calming effect (at least that is one reason given for consuming it), but he didn’t arrive back at the A4 lot for about 30 minutes, having spent a while consuming several bottles to calm his own nerves and the return journey took lot longer owing to the considerable stagger in his step, which earned him a clip from Lady Wendy, although she calls them ‘love taps’.
Eventually Lady A4 and Mum arrived and calm was restored as they explained to him that it was Sunday and the workers were observing the day of rest, not abandoning the A4 lot for a better paid job. :coolsmiley:
It didn’t help that workers were seen on Kitty’s site, but Mum pointed out that they were probably not religious whereas, judging from the attention to detail and care taken, A4’s team almost certainly were.
A short discussion with the PERC’s followed the calming of A4 and His Worship the Mayor (we think) pointed out to Jimbo2012 that with all the Closings coming up, he ought to get the FLAPS around the rest of Gillyland to see if anyone else needs their services.
Jimbo2012, pointed out that following the significant stress suffered by the team over worrying about Chief Rose’s, Kitty’s and A4’s builds, that anyone else requiring the FLAPS services should consider donating copious quantities of Corona to bolster their flagging nerves until Junction29 pointed out (in a slurred voice), that perhaps Newcastle Brown Ale might work better.
Consensus was reached that anything Alcoholic and Wet would suffice in an emergency.
Lady A4 and Mum took A4 home, promising to bring him to Evans Prairie tonight at 8 o’clock to show us all that this morning’s trauma will have had no lasting effects and he should be back to his usual daft self by then. :MOJE_whot:
His Worship the Mayor thanked everyone for turning out and dealing with the neighbourhood emergency and once more peace descended on Greater Gillyland. :ho:

Pix today show the house done or almost. Electric company tells me we are not on the grid yet. So, for those veterans out there, how is the sod and new plants taken care of? I doubt Little Miss Sunshine comes with her watering can!
Ok, i am full of questions, do any of you have steps off the lanai? It never came up in nthe design meeting, but we do, is there a number of steps required before they put a railing?
Next ? .... If any of you walk by, please let me know if the garage doors are gray and front deep burgundy. Last pix they were not.
Hope the Gillybration tonight is awesome, can't wait until we are there drinking, cruising and blowing up things with all of you.

Hi Everyone! Your home is coming along nicely. The drywall has been hung and the first coat of mud has been applied. Obviously all of the wiring and insulation have already been done. The lattice work for the fancy doo-dads around the windows has been put up and there is scaffolding in place that was delivered Saturday. I would expect the drywall work to continue on Monday and I'm sure that the stucco will go on since there was a crew there Saturday afternoon scoping things out and setting up the mixer. You're doing really well and I'm sure that you will close on time!!!
Enjoy the pics!!!

Well Folks, Another GillyGathering has come and gone. What a turnout we had tonight!!!
Aside from our regular attendees, we had the pleasure of meeting the Mills, The Three D's (Dave, Doreen & Daisy...although Daisy wasn't there) and Jackie. That's as good as I can do on names. You guys who know me know that I'm better at remembering pets names than I am that of the owners...my bad! Unfortunately we were not blessed by the presence of A-4 and Jimbo and their beautiful spouses who had prior commitments (you whooseys!! :1rotfl::1rotfl:)
I know that we are all gonna miss Chief Rose and his beautiful wife who return home this week as well as the Mills. The 3 D's are going to be around until Thursday (?) and have just completed Day 1 of design. They're building a Lantana in Section 211. :MOJE_whot::MOJE_whot:
I know that everyone in TV probably says that they have the best neighborhood going but I know the truth of the matter.....GillyLand is the absolute best with the bestest neighbors. I can imagine living anywhere else.
So, thank you all for being my friends/neighbors. You are truly the best!!

As His Worship the Mayor has pointed out, last night was a great night, with lots of new faces.
The only downside is that it was Bobless, not a single Bob in sight, the first time in living memory that a Gillyland gathering had not had a plethera of Bob's sprinkled throughout the crowd and it was possible to shout 'BOB' and not a single head turned!

We've already got a rental residence lined up and can't wait to become official Villagers. We hope to be there by mid-July if the closing on our home goes as planned. From what I understand, the auto watering is turned one every night and the landscaping gets watered that way. It was on the other nightat our house
when we stopped to look at the house at night. (Close 2/20 9 days and counting!)
We have four or five steps off our lanai. We also have a rail which I am grateful for. The railing is on the inside of the lanai, so I think that will be good with the dog trying to catch lizards when they get in.
What is your address? I can go look tomorrow to see if your garage doors are gray and front deep burgundy.
Our celebration last night was great. It is always nice to get together and talk about whatever as we get to know each other.
We are eagerly waiting to move in and live there. I feel my life right now is a little chopped up with no home to live in that is ours! We are renting a lovely villa in Polo Ridge. But it isnt home.
Good luck to you. When is your close? We look forward to meeting with you. Gayle and Mike

Thank you back. We are glad to know you and the rest of the cast of Gilchrist and feel fortunate. Mike and I are very used to having close neighborhood friends. We lived in a great community in Illinois. We did a lot of things together like dinners and fun parties. So I am glad to get the feeling of that same kind of comradeness.

Mike and I feel the same about having the best neighbors and friends. Of course we do not live here yet, but because we have been meeting for drinks and talking on this blog, we are getting to know all of you. We are both used to having great neighbors who party together, have dinners for 20 people just to get together. We feel that there will be the same type of comradeness here. Thanks for being our friends and neighbors.

A4 - don't get confused, we were just moving it to a safer location :a040:
Me and Mille :doggie: were very concerned that it might be damaged by construction traffic in the middle of the neighbours lot all by itself and at great exertion, sweat, blood and tears (of laughter) managed to hide it (Whoops), we mean move it to a safer location, just out of sight. ::1rotfl:
How were we to know that you would panic when you found it gone, thinking someone had 'borrowed' it :a040:
Still all the effort was worth it to see the look on your face when you saw it had disappeared.
Although to be fair, i did get stich in my side from laughing so hard - thanks. :MOJE_whot:
What do you mean "short stubby legs"?, they might be short but Lady Wendy thinks they look kind or cute! :doggie: - in fact she thinks its my best feature - not sure if that is a good thing or a bad one?

I forgot the irrigation was a separate line .... We are at 1416 Hackberry, 2nd from Eastfield, Gray Begonia. If you are down that way, thanks, this being so far away is killing us! Of course we went from CT toCA and CA to GA so we should be used to it! Where is your new house? We close 3/1 and move full time around the 17th
Looking forward to meeting you....

Wendy and I participated in the 'BEGINNER' MahJong classes at Captiva Rec Center this morning. Understand the same teacher is also teaching at Bradenton - on Wednesdays, I think. Think I will try it again (so much to learn), but want to see if there are others who might want to join in the fun.
Also are there others on this board that like to play Canasta?
Final proposition (and I usually don't proposition strangers......Oh wait you're neighbors, not strangers): In some of the "older", "more established neighborhoods" I understand there are regular "driveway gatherings" (planned events - usually weekly and rotating from house to house. These usually begin at the cocktail hour (5-ish) and I think they include drinks and potluck hors d'ourves (sp?) Is Gilchrist becoming established enough to begin this tradition? I think we're about there, and Dave and I would be glad to share our driveway for the first one. We were thinking maybe Thursday, Feb 28th? Anyone interested?

I am a HUGE mah jongg player (and so is my mom who lives in Tamarind Grove). Count me in! Maybe we can play a time or two when I get there at the end of March...and then I would most definitely be up for something regularly starting in mid-June when I move there permanently!

I LOVE canasta and Joe plays some... But he picks up cards games way to fast, meaning how to play not as in pick up games ... I am digging a grave I could regret!
We are coming down on the 28 th to be at the closing on 3/1!!! Cannot wait to attend the first driveway party, have heard about the tradition and hoped we would be in a like neighborhood!

Thanks Rich! Looking forward to meeting you as well.
We have been back in our home in PPB since mid-January. Only a few minor tweaks yet to be done, but at least we are back! Neighborhood is strangely quiet as so many homes are still vacant - a few homes will be coming down as well - so the landscape will definitely be different going forward.
Now that the utilities have been restored in Seaside, what's next for you there? We're hearing so much bad information that it is incredible. After going thru all of this, it is certainly refreshing and uplifting to get on with the next phase of our lives, don't you think??
See you soon!

Although she was sat in the Drivers seat, she resisted the urge to do 'wheelies' around the nearby lots stating "It is traumatic enough for the workers around here under A4's beady eye, without me alarming them as well" :jester::doggie:
Which astounded Sir John as it was the first time he had heard her speak 'American'. :pepper2:

I just moved into Gilchrist at the end of Jan. I am on Hackberry. Is there a mailing list for gilchrist residents or a club set up yet. If so I would love to be on it. I am a golfer and just got my new cart and am always looking for someone to play

Hoping to prevent a repeat of the recent dastardly deed when someone 'borrowed' A4's Golf Cart, little Millie took up guard earlier today whilst A4 was sorting the building crew out. :gc:
9973
Although she was sat in the Drivers seat, she resisted the urge to do 'wheelies' around the nearby lots stating "It is traumatic enough for the workers around here under A4's beady eye, without me alarming them as well" :jester::doggie:
Which astounded Sir John as it was the first time he had heard her speak 'American'. :pepper2:
I knew it was Millie who stole my cart the other day. You were pushing and she was steering. When I asked her what she had to say for herself, she told me "No Speak Engolisha" . . . . She's a quick learner

Just out of curiousity...how many of you are on Facebook? I did create a GROUP on Facebook (search Village of Gilchrist Gilbillies). A group works differently that the page that was created...when a page is created, the person that "owns" the page must post on it so that people that "LIKE" it can see the posts on their newsfeeds.
Lots of businesses do pages as a way of advertising.
With a GROUP, it will show up on the left-hand side of your facebook page and you can see the number of new posts that have been made to it and then simply click on it to read them. So...anyone who wanted to ask a question or schedule a Gillybration could do it via a post to the group and we could all easily see that a new post was waiting for us to read.
I think it will facilitate communication a lot more than this forum...

Taking my traditional morning walk over to the "other" village, I can only say, "Boy all you Gilchristians better get to work". Hotrodgirl is just about done with her landscaping. I don't know how A4 is going to catch up. Did I mention the landscaping is really really lovely?
Hot and I were noodling the construction and now that the houses are going in between Birdsong and Amherst and we need to find a couple back to back neighbors who would be willing to let us use their side yards as a cut through for dog walking. Otherwise, we will be separated by an endless row of houses that go all the way down to Pinellas!!!! Maybe if we could buy two lots, one on Birdsong and one on Amerhest, we could have a dog park?

Ok Rusty and Gayle! The only 2 people on this forum that have joined the Village of Gilchrist Gilbillies GROUP on Facebook...I just created an event for the Gillybration at EP on 2-20. Jim and I are here for our design meeting this weekend. We drove around the Gillyland neighborhood yesterday and we loved what we saw. The houses look great including Kitty's, A-4's, the Mayor, Jimbo ( yes we found our way over to his section), and our fabulous next door neighbors- Sue and Dave.
We are tired tonight after spending time getting prepared for decisions like exterior colors, light fixtures , etc- but we are so excited to be here.
Sue and Dave were so nice when we just showed up at their front door. They made us feel so welcome and gave us lots of great advice.
Wish us luck as we go into the design meeting!

Look forward to activities and friends after the "settling in" period.

Hi Everyone! I have to admit that my head is spinning right now. So many new additions to the neighborhood. If everyone's quote was brought over into this post then I wouldn't have room to say anything so.....
:welcome: to Everyone :bigbow:
I can unabashadely say that you've moved into the best neighborhood in the whole place (why yes, I am prejudiced than you :a20:).
Anyone who is in town this Wednesday, Feb 20, please stop by Evans Prairie Country Club at 8:00pm for happy hour and to say hello. We have a closing to celebrate and we wanna do it up right.
If you can't make it, please let someone know when you'll be here and we'll do our darndest to have a gathering while you're here.
Hope to meet all of you really soon!!!

Hi Sunset! Welcome to GillyLand! Depending upon where you are you should probably expect dust, grit and sand. If the area is grassland there may not be much but be assured that when the construction starts you will have some. I can honestly say that it's a nuisance but doesn't nearly overcome the pleasure that I've had here with my neighbors. Just grit your teeth (pun intended :1rotfl:) and it will be over when it's over. It's really not that big of a deal...at least to me!

One of the Gilly’s has declared a Gilly-Bration at Evans Prairie Country Club Wednesday night at 8:00.
Everyone will assemble on the patio between the pro-shop and the restaurant. We’ve got a bunch of people in town visiting, designing, or closing and a lot to celebrate. And if we run out of things to celebrate we can always toast stucco going on my house today. :a040: This will be ANOTHER dry run / warm up for the big Driveway Party next week.
Dress warm and casual since we’ll be outside. This is open to everyone on this thread, the spreadsheet and your friends. :coolsmiley: Stop by and say hi.:ho:
P.S. . . . The Gilly Nation does not have committees, organized games, department heads, Founding Members, social directors, neighborhood boundaries, or collect dues. We do accept donations of empty Corona bottles to keep the Bonny Sir Johnny Brewery in operation. :beer3: We’re just a bunch of FUN PEOPLE who like to get together, raise our glasses, smile and laugh. :1rotfl: We do have a Mayor and an Administrative Assistant Staff which no one respects. :bigbow:

Thanks to all who helped with advice and encouragement.
We have family obligations so we have to get back to North Carolina tomorrow- but we will be back soon to enjoy some of the building process. I am hoping that the Flinstones and A-4 will watch over things and let us know of any strange sightings.
Have fun at the celebration tomorrow. Drink one for us!

Welcome Judy, Betsy and Sunset!! We in Gillyland seem to be filling up fairly quickly these days! In regards to the dust question... I think it Is something all of us expect aa there is so much construction going on. The worst seems to be when they cut block. But it does not take that long to build a home and I would expect the worst of it to be over soon. When the winds whip up and carry the sand from the empty lots everywhere... Well that can be a bit bothersome. But they build so quickly I would think this section will be complete within another 6 months or so. All in all, it's not bad. Just relax and enjoy your little bit of paradise!

Every week I look to see if there are any new reds on the map online for available lots in 209, hoping for a next door neighbor! Seems like it has been stagnant for months. I am just surprised that they are doing so many specs in the new sections and not filling in in 209 .....
Hey are they watering our grass???

Yes...I would wonder the same thing about 209. And now 210. Looks like sales have come to a stop. All I know (or have heard) is that now when someone jumps from one lot to another they won't put that lot back on the market...they'll just build a spec on it.

Sprinkler heads are approx 1 foot from the house. Plantings within 2 feet. You will have to have them moved, but it should be fairly easy. :clap2: I have a landscaper (Brandon's Landscaping) who can do that for you, build a wall, etc... I hope to upload pics to my computer to post today. I am SO pleased with the wonderful landscaping!! You really have to walk around to appreciate all the hard work and I am afraid the pictures will not do it justice. But I will get them on here soon! :MOJE_whot:

Speaking of construction sort of, I finished laying down the whole floor yesterday.
I might add with aid of Rusty and the big time help of Andy.
First pic is me putting the very last piece of the puzzle.
Then two pics with my helper Trouper.

Seems things are moving along so quickly now! I walked Kitty's place as well as A-4's cement yesterday and I am impressed with both!!! Kitty will likely be having some wonderful parties on her lanai and A-4 has awesome paint now. Batman is just about finished and I will likely be locked out by week's end! :bigbow: Yankee's place is done and mike and Gayle have moved in. Lord, the time just escapes me here! It will be awesome when the construction is complete and everything looks beautiful!!
Yay for you hotrodgirl, thanks for the update! Can't wait for the parties! the full moon will be coming up over the water tomorrow night. Wish I could be there already!

I met Teryl for the first time today. Nice guy but I doubt I'll be invited back. Someone in the street told me he was inside the house sitting in a borrowed patio chair watching 6 guys paint the inside of the house. So I ring the doorbell, go inside, and tell him I am with the Villages Painting department :police: and wanted to see his painting permits :posting: and I was looking for a missing lawn chair. His eyes got as big as saucers until I started laughing. Like I said, I don't think I'll get invited back.
P.S. . . . . Good luck with your appliance delivery tomorrow Teryl
Ho Ho Ho, that was a good one! :1rotfl:
Wish we had thought of it, still we can always come up with something else to welcome them home! :1rotfl::1rotfl: :welcome:
