Oohh my aching back, thank goodness it looks great. :coolsmiley:

Is it worth starting a little business laying them for everyone else? :1rotfl:

No way, there R easier ways to make a buck.

Hi Jimbo, whats the reference to 538 mean?

538 sq feet add on

Kitty

Your pool is absolutely lovely. We did another inspection of your construction earlier today. Really like the tile you picked for the pool and for your floors as well. You have spared no expense to make it a gorgeous home, and I know you will love it.

Speaking of construction sort of, I finished laying down the whole floor yesterday.

I might add with aid of Rusty and the big time help of Andy.

First pic is me putting the very last piece of the puzzle.

Then two pics with my helper Trouper.

BEAUTIFUL JOB Jimbo. What kind of finish do you plan on?

P.S. . . . Thank you for pulling your T-Shirt down before the Pic was taken. :a040:

Pavers on the lanai. T&D is the source. We picked a darker color combination to reduce glare when the sun is on it. I am impressed with their work as they also covered the edge face of the slab and the outside entry pads. Thanks to hotrodgirl for these pics:

Beautiful!! I think I'll just come and live on your lanai when we fianlly move all our stuff down here!! It's been a few weeks since I've been on this thread and boy have things moved along! :a040: Everyone's houses are so stunning--can't wait to see them all when we're back down with the moving truck at the end of March. We've been up to our neck in boxes and clutter-finishing taxes and posting for jobs like crazy--might have a good lead as had a very lenghtly interview on Friday--everyone keep their fingers and toes crossed for me as I'm really getting tired of these cold and white North winters. :blahblahblah:

It was a glorious day in The Villages today. For those of you stuck in the frozen tundra, we all wish you would have been with us to enjoy it. The Gilchrist pool was full of people from Gilchrist and Fernandina and other places, and all the pools and outdoor venues were busy, busy, busy.

On the bright side, it was great to finally meet Teryl and see the Bishop's castle. Can't wait for Terry to get here, too.

Lee and Cion got grass today, A-4 has pretty stucco and a great house, Kitty's pool was getting screening, and as always lots of little worker bees doing all kinds of work and lots of houses.

Life is good.

Don't rub it in :boxing2: It's not so bad up North when you get an ice storm and it takes you an hour for a normal 15 minute drive!!
I just keep telling myself that we"ve got the house and we'll get there eventually--just keep a chair open for us at the pool. :a040:

Well, your home has made astounding progress this past week. The outside was painted (they got plastered last week...:1rotfl:), inside painted and most of the tiles laid. This house is gonna be another winner!!!

Really nice progress this week. The outer foundation block was laid and it would appear that once the rough-in plumbing and vapor barrier are installed you'll be ready for the concrete floor.

I also took the liberty of going into your bedroom to get a pic of your view of the pond...hope you don't mind!!! :1rotfl:

Well, we had our first neighborhood pickleball game this afternoon at the Bradenton Rec Center. There was quite a crowd as we had Sir John & Lady Wendy (Junction29), Dave & Sue (The Flintstones), Lee & Nancy, Carol (HotRod) and 'lil ole me! I have to warn everyone that Lee & Nancy are ringers and have played in tournaments before but they did take it wasy on us (somewhat)...:1rotfl:

Won a few and lost a whole lot more but I really had a good time!!

The only down side to the whole thing is that my butt muscles are really, really sore!!!

:jester:

Oh yea. One other thing. If we get our group together we can actually reserve some courts at the rec center but we need a name. I suggested Wendy's Wacko's and Carol suggested Bits & Bobs. Anyone who's going to play have a suggestion????

BEAUTIFUL JOB Jimbo. What kind of finish do you plan on?

THe finish "naturale" is made by a company called Bona, their website says;

Bona Naturale is a waterborne commercial and residential hardwood floor finish. It is the next generation of wood floor protection that preserves the true natural look of hardwood floors. You get as close to an untreated look and feel as possible while still providing your floor with a durable surface.

Along with the elegant look and noticeably unique feeling underfoot, this finish has superb, Traffic-like durability, and because of its natural look, scratch marks are less visible.

It was shipped on Thursday, not easy to find but many professionals swear by it. It ain't cheap $140 G., need two :ohdear:

• Extreme low sheen level. Seamless touch-up on repairs
• UL Classified for slip resistance with a slip coefficient of friction >0.7
• Two-component, hardener.

We will be there in May and June after a whirlwind trip March 15 -21 to check everything since we close on March 7. Count us in for all the great parties and sports (altho I shattered my wrist last year trying to learn tennis!)... See you all soon can hardly wait. One question - what is the difference in 'snowflakes' and 'snowbirds'? If we plan on being there for 4 - 5 months, what are we??

It is really amazing how much stuff accumulates. We give things to goodwill every year - both clothes and sometimes furniture. I even freeware stuff on the internet. We still have a lot to get rid of before downsizing. The amount of paperwork alone that has to be shredded is unbelievable. We are bringing no furniture to TV.

We are bringing down a roll of blue painters tape to use for the punch list of things needed to be corrected. Whenever we find something to write down on the list we will also put a piece of tape on the item to show where it is located. Who says I'm anal. :)

Good luck on the walk thru and closing.

I had the blue painters tape in the "has to go in the car Thur." box! But I was in Home Depot yesterday and they have this floresent painters tape ... may get that if I have to make another trip. We are in a 55+ condo and the builder had an independent home service do the w/t and the warranty work ... their motto was **** off the homeowner and don't fix anythng .... fought many a fight and did win the major battles! I hear TV is much more reasonable! Anal, well Joe is of engineer mind and I have been involved in real estate for the last 20 years...(relocation and closing) so we are anal ....
want it right, too old to play games, and to much to do!!! (like unpacking - thanks Jimbo, 4 months sounds like heaven!)

I met Teryl for the first time today. Nice guy but I doubt I'll be invited back. Someone in the street told me he was inside the house sitting in a borrowed patio chair watching 6 guys paint the inside of the house. So I ring the doorbell, go inside, and tell him I am with the Villages Painting department :police: and wanted to see his painting permits :posting: and I was looking for a missing lawn chair. His eyes got as big as saucers until I started laughing. Like I said, I don't think I'll get invited back.

P.S. . . . . Good luck with your appliance delivery tomorrow Teryl

Strange that I don't quite have the same recollection ::ohdear: :boxing2:
Actually I spotted A4 a mile away and knew my sanity was soon to be tested, but somehow his skill and cunning still resulted in my paying for a painting permit.:cus:

Cathy and I have been busy with other items for the house. Sunday we approved the closet design with Busby's Closet Design. 5 closets, an amazing design, and an unbeliveable price. Tim the Tool Man is lined up for epoxy garage floor and attic stairs. Today we approved the design for the built ins for the study (Rusty Room) and ordered the 3rd bedroom panel (murphy) bed from Wall Beds Plus. Jason came to the house yesterday to measure and did a great design. Got our quote from Brighthouse. Next up . . . Blinds from 48 Hr I assume.

We close Friday - I am so excited!!! But I am never ever moving again, this packing is killing me!!! And for ever box backed there is a box to unpack, and this is after downsizing 4 years ago and going to Goodwill almost bi-weekly! I think I am over wrapping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chief - we will have to compare notes,I hear the walk through is very detailed ... I am requesting my HUD today, doubt it will be ready but I am a stickler for them being right!!!!
Good luck!!!!

We totally agree-we've already moved once when we sold our house two years ago and moved into a townhouse-thought we downsized and de-cluttered--boy were we wrong. There are boxes everywhere and tons of papers to shred before we get down there at the end of March. Where did we get all this stuff. No furniture for us either--just our personal belongings--can we really have this much stuff and only two people?? :ohdear: :ohdear:

Safe travels chiefrose and Yankee Quilter! Can't wait to see and meet everyone and start settling in!

Rona safe travels to you too...we are packing the two cars to the hilt ... Our "stuff" doesn't 't get packed until the15th, and only the moving god knows delivery! We only have a 6 hour trip so ..... No big deal.....

Not busy at all A-4 is making me play my first round of golf in the morning, I'm not bringing a pencil.

Busy, Cathy in the middle of doing the floor said she thinks we should have a platform bed in MBR, (not sure how the we happened?) I had to built that too a few days ago.

My table saw needs a vacation.

Cart is on the agenda for next week, ready to follow the sun....

so funny a-4. But that might really be a great idea now that you think about it. It is so confusing about what to do, but we are doing our research. We may have to wait until we can actually fit it in our golf cart garage, what with all the junk we are going to have packed in there to unload somewhere.

Well friends and neighbors...A-4, Jimbo, Mike & myself got together this morning at 9:08 for our first round of golf as Gilly neighbors.

I won't make too many comments other than I now officially suck at two sports, golf & pickleball!!! :1rotfl:

I did manage to make a par on one of the par 3's and I believe that everyone else also made at least one par. One warning...A-4's a ringer in the driving area and Mike plays a good short game getting on the greens.

Oh yea! Forgot to mention that Jimbo did manage to get a birdie on one of the holes with a water hazard. Now for you animal lovers out there don't fret. The Florida Fish & Wildlife officer who was called to the scene said that the duck that Jimbo conked in the head will make a full recovery...:pepper2:

After the traumatic events of the morning...the 4some retired to Evans Prairie CC for some much needed liquid refreshment and victuals! I think that a good time was had by all...except for maybe the duck! :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

As I posted before..a foursome had a golf outing this morning and had whole lot of fun. At the Driveway Party this evening several people mentioned that they would like to do a neighborhood golf outing. I also talked to one of our neighbors who had a lead on how all of us might be able golf together. Now, I will warn you that I played very badly today and that golf is much more of a social thing to me than a competitive one. :beer3:

I'd like to propose the formation of a GillyLand Golf Team (so to speak) that includes both men & women (I'm sure that many women play much better than I do). :1rotfl: I'd also like for the foursomes to rotate so that we get to meet each other and play rounds with different neighbors.

If it is, indeed, possible for all of us to play at one location at one time I'd like to know who would be interested in getting in on the proposal and what day you'd like to see us play (at least in the beginning). Now, let me mention one thing...if you're a good golfer and competitive this might not be the perfect match for you. chilout If, on the other hand, you don't mind playing with beginners and don't have a temper but just want to have a good time, please let me know and I'll have Junction29 (Head of the Administrative Dept) start coordinating. :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl: Seriously, just let me know if you're interested (names, contact info & day you'd like to play) and I'll start a list. When I get the info about group play I'll try to get something together. :MOJE_whot:

Hi, this is Bill Lasher in Massachusetts. (2927 Euclid Terrace) I've played golf a few times in my life and really stink at it. But I'd love to join a socially oriented group of mixed abilities. We'll be there for the latter half of May and most of June, but then not until December. (We're on the Spreadsheet) So count me in.

If you go with a solar powered cart, make sure it has a hole in the floor so you can peddle like the Flintstones when the sun don't shine and your battery goes flat. (Just kidding Jimbo)

Don't jest, Bob. In the early years of our marriage when we didn't have a pot to p**s in because one of us was going to school full-time and working part-time and the other working full-time and working on a master's part-time, my parents felt sorry for us and gave us an old VW beetle. Well, we drove that car to the ground, literally-there was a hole in the floor from which you could see the ground!!! Had the engine given out, we would have been paddling like the Flintstones.

Next Wednesday sounds like a plan (if there is music at EP on Wednesday maybe we should push it til Thursday so we can hear ourselves talk).

We get on the autotrain on Sunday afternoon and arrive in FL on Monday morning. Four whirlwind days follow with closing, furniture deliveries, shutter, paddle fan and gutter installations, and staining the lanai and garage. One more hour off the short timers clock! :pepper2:

Well, it seems Dave and Meredith (Gilchrist Cruisers) and myself are right in the thick of it with the addition of a new beach in our yards! Those with grandkids may wish to come on over when the weather warms up and build some sandcastles. The sprinklers turned a section of it into good building material this morning... I also have pictures for warranty and have filled out an online claim as well as having called. I want to see some silt fences go up across the street where it is so open with 5 sand lots! Getting tired of it as well. Thanks for letting me vent, but I guess I would still rather have the sand than the snow:cus: my landscaper showed up this AM to check on his extensive work, and I do believe he was shocked by what he saw. The fact that he said absolutely nothing for a minute or two was evidence enough. Then the jaw dropped open and orders came out for the guys to check the plants, water feature and pick up all the garbage... They picked up in your yard too GCruisers! Well, we did it!

Signed a contract today to build a pool and birdcage addition to the house. Really excited about this adventure. Should be ready by the first of June, or before.

Well what's the details, inquiring minds want to know, did U go with fiberglass?

What size?

etc.

Well what's the details, inquiring minds want to know, did U go with fiberglass?

Well, if you hadn't been so busy scrubbing the driveway Thursday, you could have seen all the plans! LOL

No, we didn't go with fiberglass. There is some thought that fiberglass may be outlawed in Florida in the near future, as many such pools crack at the water line where it can get extremely hot above water and colder beneath. Then the fibers end up in the water. So concrete/gunnite it is for us.

Pool will be a little shy of 29' by 17'. Curved shape. Beach area with spa jets and a bubbler (which I'm sure the grandkids will love). There will also be another bench area with spa jets. There will be a two step up deck in the back to accommodate three waterfall curtains.

Birdcage will extend as far to the rear as possible and will cover the entire length of the back of the house (50'x 25').

This, of course means we will be removing our 10 x 10 block patio and stone patio that is currently off our existing lanai. Don't know if we can re-purpose the block and stone, so we may be disposing of them.

Permit process will take 3 - 4 weeks, then we shall start. Should be interesting.

Well, it seems Dave and Meredith (Gilchrist Cruisers) and myself are right in the thick of it with the addition of a new beach in our yards! Those with grandkids may wish to come on over when the weather warms up and build some sandcastles.

Maybe we need to have a Gilchrist Beach Party. Give everyone shovels and buckets and turn them loose.?????? Umbrella drinks as a reward?????

Gayle,

We have a CYV that we rent out. It's being handled by ERA (Grizzard) realty, Ann Rogers. Don't know if she has anyone for next winter, but your friends might check with her while they're here, as she handles several properties.

Think warranty and the Gillbillies may have a few words:boxing2:

Next Wednesday sounds like a plan (if there is music at EP on Wednesday maybe we should push it til Thursday so we can hear ourselves talk).

We get on the autotrain on Sunday afternoon and arrive in FL on Monday morning. Four whirlwind days follow with closing, furniture deliveries, shutter, paddle fan and gutter installations, and staining the lanai and garage. One more hour off the short timers clock! :pepper2:

After pickleball today, the participants met in executive session at Bonifay CC over drinks and it was suggested that we reschedule the christening of HeavensToBetsy's home for tomorrow, Wednesday 6 @6:00pm.
