Hi Donna Pendergast and Sally Canna. Hope I spelled your names correctly. It was great to have met you on phone, but look forward to meeting you and your husbands in person. Please feel free to come to the golf meeting at our home on Thursday, at 7:00. It is a great way to meet people to golf with and become friends with.
We look forward to meeting you soon. Gayle Roberts
Sadly, we are leaving for Glens Falls, NY on Tuesday to attend our two granddaughter's graduation and will spend the month of July in the Saratoga Springs area.
My husband, Jim and I will both be anxious to play golf with some of your after our return the first week of August.
Stay cool!!

Very happy to be back in Gilchrist after being away for almost a month. Glad that we are going to be here for Wednesday's Evans Prairie Gilly-bration, we were away and missed the last two. Looking forward to seeing everyone and meeting the new neighbors. Traveling is great, but returning home to The Villages is wonderful. Life is good!!! :wave:

The Mayors official CatHouse Inspection Team met at 210-01 this evening prior to dinner with Mr & Mrs Jimbo to check out the progress on this residence. In attendance were The Mayor and Lady Mayoress, MamaDerby and the Old Bishop and Jim & Lorraine Pezzanite.
A thorough inspection of said premesis was made by all of the delegates who arrived at the conclusion that this is one hell of a home!!!
We think Shawn & Freddie and the cats will be well served and that this will make a heck of a place for some parties!!! :beer3:
Congrats you two....this is gonna be one heck of a nice place!!!

The Lady Mayoress and I had a wonderful asian dinner tonight with Mr & Mrs Jimbo prior to their pending departure at the end of the week. The food was great and so was the conversation and company. I know I speak for all of us when I say "Have a safe trip home, great touring weather and hurry back to GillyLand!" We're gonna miss ya!!!

It certainly looks a cracking party house, we just have a couple of concerns (well three!);
1. We are a bit concerned that the sand floor in the lanai will paddle through the house with the drunken revellers! :cryin2:
2. It looks like Jimbo has been installing his pools all over the neighbourhood (picture 3) and we are worried about where the filter pond will go and whether it will attract some gators. :1rotfl:
3. We are wondering if the Cat House parties will get out of hand, looking a the crowd gathered outside waiting for the first party to begin, they look like quite a rowdy bunch and we know that one of them at least is well known to the Police in West Virginia! :MOJE_whot::pepper2:
On another topic - Has anyone noticed we now have OVER 4000 entries, what a cracking thread this has proved to be to join all us new friends and neighbours together - well done to His Worship the Mayor and the Lady Mayoress for starting it and to all you guys for joining in !!!:BigApplause:

It's just amazing to me that I started this thread on June 3,2012 with the hopes of contacting a few neighbors in the 209 section of Gilchrist. I heard about TOTV from Janices aunt, Mary, when we were down for our lot signing. I went back home and made the first post on the above date. :posting: And now, exactly one year later on June 3, 2013 we were at 392 pages with 3911 posts. I told Janice when I started the thread that I would be thrilled if I got 10 replies and look where we are now! New and caring neighbors, best friends, golfing foursomes, GillyBrations, driveway parties, holiday parties, impromptu lanai visits, etc. I am just amazed at everything that has happened. I am so grateful for all of you (whether I know you or not) for making this neighborhood what it has become. Our "cast of characters" and the related high-jinks associated with the cast has made this a really, really fun place to live.
You guys are the greatest.

Thanks for starting this thread and making us all feel welcome when speaking for myself--"wondering if moving to a new place and starting all over again was the best thing." Well I can say--my doubts have been erased many times over and because of what you started have made that happen. It's especially more meaningful when you're by yourself and feel so welcome and part of the group.

News Flash;
Panic and chaos hit the USA.
A BBC quiz show in the UK yesterday, the 15th June 2013, has sparked panic and chaos in the USA after it revealed that the second most common name in the USA is ‘Johnson’
This was something both the CIA and the FBI were trying to keep secret and it is not known at this time how the BBC found out such sensitive information.
The Tourist Industry are particularly concerned that the influx of Tourists will be severely curtailed if they get wind of the fact that there may be tens or even hundreds of thousands of A4’s, playing pranks and getting drunk and disorderly throughout the North American Continent!
An urgent communique, believed to be from the President’s office (or from somewhere in Washington) has announced the immediate formation of a national data base of ‘Cathy’s’ and ‘Cathy’s Mums’, so that they can be directed into action once an A4 copycat has been detected.
Both Federal and State legislation is being proposed where every time an A4 is found moving into a neighbourhood, a declaration, borrowed from the successful control mechanism undertaken in GilChrist, is issued, which requires an A4 to promise;
1. Not to land any planes in the neighbourhood (except on Brinkley)
2. Not to get drunk and disorderly more than two times a week
3. To obey without question, control orders from the assigned ‘Cathy’
4. Not to try and use charm or any other influence on their assigned ‘Cathy’ such that the assigned ‘Cathy’s Mum’ loses control over them both
His Worship the Mayor and his Gilchrist PERCS and FLAPS teams have been contacted by Washington to form an advisory body to advise other useful courses of action, based upon their extensive yearlong A4 control experiences.

We thought the thread was getting a bit serious and thought we needed to liven things up a bit, when low and behold, up comes this startling bit of information on a quiz show - it was on the BBC so must be right (honest) - couldn't miss the opportunity especially with someone with your sense of humour. :jester::jester:

We are shocked and astounded, 'Throw you to the wolves' indeed, we can't believe His Worship means it, although when we read that you were dragging him over to Pelican for a ritual humiliation. chilout , we started to realise that he might have been driven to take such desperate measures. chilout

When we broke the news about the proliferation of A4's in the USA and saw the panic and chaos that the Tourist Industry and Washington displayed, we never for a minute thought that 'ours' was in any sort of 'danger'. :BigApplause:
We knew without a doubt that Gillyland would turn out in force to keep him safe and we knew that the control exercised by 'our' Cathy and 'our' Cathy's Mum keep any excess behaviour to an absolute minimum. chilout
Bo honest, how many of you have ever seen a plane land or take off on Brinkley? - I know that we never have - yet :BigApplause:
It is important when these drama's hit the neighbourhood (or neighborhood) that we show a united front to the outer Gillyland authorities and that His Worship's directives are followed to the letter, especially where food and alcohol are concerned. :mmmm: :beer3:

Hi Everyone! My wife and I have just purchased a lot in the Village of Gilchrist and have a design meeting on July 9th. We've already got a rental residence lined up and can't wait to become official Villagers. We hope to be there by mid-July if the closing on our home goes as planned. If anyone else is going into Gilchrist please stop by and give us a post...
Hello there, we are just down the way from you heading to Brownsville at Hillsborough. Congratulations on your upcoming move and building your dream home.

What a day! Began with a nice ride back from Gainesville on the bike which was followed by a nice nap. Then after being well rested met with the Ole Bishop, Mike Roberts and Fred Flintstone to try and play 18 holes at Bonifay before getting caught by the darkness.
We almost made it but could only get in 13 holes before we were forced to turn on the golf car headlights to find the golf balls. We gave a whole new meaning to twilight golf!! :22yikes: But, a good time was had by all! There were even a few pars made but no new members of the Gilchrist Birdie Club. Mike was presented with his "Birdie" pin by the Mayor to the appreciation of all who were present.
After winding our way through the golf course in the dark, the Mayor finally had to tell Mike that no, we could not cut through peoples yards to get back to the main road. As a result of this bad decision, we arrived at Bonifay Country Club for some much needed liquid nourishment only to find that the establishment closed at 9:00 (it was 9:01). The group then adjourned to the Mayors Residence for refreshments. :beer3:
Next time we play twilight, we have to get some of the glow balls so we can play at least one more hole after dark!!!

Well we went out to play golf yesterday as we said and true to form, I developed my expertise for Hooking and Slicing a little further, whilst Her Ladyship showed me a clean pair of heels. :bigbow:
We managed to finish with Her Ladyship scoring one over par!*, whilst I managed three over par*, so not too bad, although we both lost some balls again. :1rotfl:
Her Ladyship lost 3, two in the water and one in the rough and I lost 4, two in the water and two in the rough.
When we say water, we don’t mean lakes, these were very cleverly hidden but steep sided streams, just over small hills, so that as you hit the ball over the hill, it had no option but to roll down it into the stream, which couldn’t be seen from the other side of the hill – crafty a what? :0000000000luvmyhors
Don’t forget when we say rough in the UK, we mean rough, with very dense grass which offers almost no chance of finding a ball if one ends up in it!
Well today is my Birthday, I am 29, no kidding! Her ladyship has been 29 for years and no-one has questioned it, so now that I am the same age as her (I married an older woman and catch her up for 6 months each year) and over the UK Official Retirement Age, so I have decided that I am not going to get any older and stay where I am. :a040:
When I was 29, I was still young and foolish and Her Ladyship says I am still foolish, so if I turn the clock back, I am back to being young and foolish again – it feels great already. :a040:
Her Ladyship has bought me a holiday for my birthday, a week in a 400 year old Country Cottage in Cornwall, which is an English County (like a State in the US only smaller) in the South West of the UK and a popular holiday destination. :bigbow:
I was a little worried about how much she had spent on me, but she reassured me that she got it at a discount if we would do some renovation whilst we were there. :coolsmiley:
When I asked what renovation needed doing, she replied that they have asked if we can mend the roof when we are there as it leaks when it rains – a good job I found out before we went, because now I can take my roofing ladders and wall ladder, to save me falling off the roof as I repair it. :0000000000luvmyhors

Where was I – oh yes, to cut a long story short (yes I know it’s already a long story!), she has also booked us a couple of golf games in the vicinity of the country cottage as well, so it should be a good week and a great birthday present. :gc:
My sister has bought me a selection of English Beers, she said that I have seemed a bit low since we got back from TV and thought I needed cheering up with a few jars (English slang for a bottle of Corona). :jester:
15829
My son has bought me a book by the famous golfer Ben Hogan, so now I am going to be studying it religiously for the next week or so, as my son, who is a good golfer, has challenged me to a game, at double or quits for his inheritance and this Ben Hogan book just might save me millions, well save me a few bob anyway (English slang for a few dollars) and with all the 'Bobs' I can count as friends in Gillyland, I am a very wealthy man by British standards. :jester:
Where was I – oh yes, to cut a long story short (yes I know it’s already a long story), my brother-in-law is taking us out for a meal and a drink tonight, but I think we have been away in TV for so long that he must have forgotten how much I can eat and drink! – I just hope he brings a lot of money with him, otherwise I can see us washing up dishes in the restaurant kitchen afterwards. :icon_hungry::popcorn::icon_hungry:
The grandchildren are coming to see us tonight before we go out, they have texted me Happy Birthday, don’t know what has happened to phone calls?, so I can let you know what they buy me in tomorrow’s post – that is if you want to know. :coolsmiley:
My wrist is aching with all this writing, so will have to close now before it ruins my golf game later today. :agree:
*Just for clarity and to avoid confusion, when we say 1 or 3 over par per game, we mean per hole – that is how it is described, isn’t it?

First of all many thanks to all who have wished me happy birthday and thank you Kitty for the card. :bigbow:
Don't panic about drinking the last bottle of Bonny Sir Johnny Ale, Your Worship, I have two bottles left in the drinks fridge in the garage and you are welcome to one of them if you start to suffer any withdrawal symptoms. :coolsmiley:
Well, to continue the narrative from this morning;
The Ben Hogan book I had for my birthday has made a huge difference to my game this afternoon, 100% difference to be accurate, instead of hooking and slicing some of my balls, now I am hooking and slicing 100% of them. :agree:
I think it would be a fair conclusion to say that I have probably misread the advice the book gives a little! :undecided:
Her Ladyship wiped the floor with me yet again, but at least I am consistently poor.
She promised to give me a chance as it was my birthday, but I was so bad, that she was struggling to miss enough shots to allow me to even draw with her! :0000000000luvmyhors.
Still, we have just got back and had a stiff whisky and suddenly everything seems fine again - I am going to recommend the whisky I drink to the UK's NHS (National Health Service) as a 'cure-all', it will save them £M's on prescription drugs. :a040:
Were was I? - oh yes, well to cut a long story short (yes I know it is a long story already), we popped down to see my sister-in-law at lunch time (Her Ladyship's big sister), she needs a bridge building over a small stream in her garden so that she can reach the garden on the far side to plant it out without getting her feet wet. :coolsmiley:
Like a wally (English slang for idiot), I volunteered to build her one - as I pointed out to Her Ladyship, when she asked me why I volunteered - it would be good practise for the roofing timber work I have to do in the holiday cottage she has booked and she could see my point.
But she then said "Why don't we fly Jimbo and Cathy out to help, it would be finished much quicker" and I looked at her in astonishment "Quicker? quicker?" I squeaked! "It would resemble the Brooklyn Bridge if Jimbo came over and I have to finish it in a week, besides, you know they only fly first class and that would double our material costs". :undecided:
Were was I? - oh yes, well to cut a long story short (yes I know it is a long story already) Fortunately she could see the sense of my argument and let the subject drop. ;)
Unfortunately, the reference to the Brooklyn Bridge got them both thinking about how fancy the bridge needs to be to look right in the garden - Will I never learn to keep my big mouth shut? :0000000000luvmyhors

What a relief that somebody is still in the neighbourhood (or neighborhood) collecting dues for the Gillyland Treasury - entry fees for the construction workers is a cracking idea and just shows what a wealth of business talent we have at home in Gilchrist. :bigbow:
We are just a little worried that it might slow build progress a little, but the Gillyland treasury, A4's steady supply of Corona and Jimbo's Bail Bond have to be the priority. :a040:

So...if I read this correctly, there will be a potluck THIS Wednesday (June 26th)? Just seeking clarification because I will also put something on the Facebook page. Is this for all of Gilchrist or just certain units (much like the spreadsheets)? Lastly, I'm assuming you mean for it to be held the fourth Wednesday of every month and not really every fourth Wednesday...or is it literally every fourth Wednesday?

Hi Guys! Seems like it's been forever since I've posted on here and I am duly guilty of such negligence. Thanks to Sir John  for pointing out that a whole day had passed since a post was made on this thread....shame on me!
It's been a busy few weeks what with golf and other things going on.
A group of us have started playing twilight golf (after 5:00pm, $6, all you can play before dark...or after dark if you're willing). So far we've played Bonifay and Havana. I have to admit that my game hasn't improved any since I've been on the "Big Boys Courses" but I have had fun with my playing partners. Oh, by the way, Mike Roberts is looking for someone to fix some minor damage to the rear of his golf cart that was caused by an errant golf ball last night on the Havana course. I, of course, have no clue as to how a golf ball might have ended up accidentally hit the rear of his cart.... Thankfully, I believe the ball hit the clubs in the rear of the cart but it did cost me a beer at Havana CC after the round.
We also have a surprise for all of our friends. Keep an eye on "The Mix South" in the Saturday paper around July 6 for some nice info on Gilchrist. That's all I'm gonna say for the time being...lol. :clap2:
Next up on the schedule is golf in the AM at Bogart with the usual cast of characters. At least it's not the Pelican course. My only definition of this course that The Villages had a swamp that they didn't know what to do with so someone said "Hey, let's build a golf course!" What a mind bending course. I think I was actually intimidated! I've now lost so many balls that I'm going to have to go to the flea market and get the cheapest bag of balls that they have....:1rotfl:
For those of you out of state, I have to admit that the weather here has been gorgeous with high temps and just a smidge of humidity! Today is really nice with a beautiful breeze blowing throughout GillyLand.
Tomorrow night marks the first pot luck dinner at the Bradenton Rec Center and I hope to see all of you there!!!!!

When the heat got turned on today, the Mayor folded like a pup tent and threw his Ole' golf Buddy under the bus. Yes everybody . . . . . read the news paper on the 6th. I wasn't going down alone so I drug Sir Lord Andy into the middle of it. (You're Welcome Junction29)
And tomorrow I can't wait to hear what the Mayors excuse is for running out of golf balls at Bogart. A rogue rat or gator or turtle snatching and "running off" with your balls has been used before. By the way, the cheapest balls around are a bucket of range balls. Get them from Sarasota since they float and you can play it from where it floats.
Mayor . . . . . is it true you're being sued for hit and run on a golf cart with a 10 iron? :gc:

I kid you not . . . . . . the Governor really does have a 10 iron in his bag. (I better keep my mouth shut cause I have a 1 iron in mine. It's good for hitting "worm burners" when you are under a clump of trees or trying to get out of some homeowners shrubs)

Congratulations Your Worship or is it 'Your Worship', we don't know what to call Governors, we don't have them in the UK! :bigbow:
What ever we have to call you it is well deserved, just a bit concerned that we may be laid off whilst we are not there to take the case to a neighbourhood tribunal for compensation. :undecided:

Contrary to what the venerable A-4 has posted...no money was handed out last night that originated in the village kitty. All money disbursed was the result of a 50/50 drawing. The Mayor merely drew the tickets and the Honorable Mr. Bacon handled all of the funds. The mayors hands never touched the money!!! :coolsmiley:
The promotion to Governor was, while flattering, not expected or even really wanted (being mayor is enough work). :faint: The only sweetener in the pot was that I was advised that the financial compensation for the position has been doubled (what's 2x0= ??????) :1rotfl:

So this morning the Flintstones, Mrs. A-4 and I hit the links at Bonita Pass. Was a beautiful morning until we got to the last hole and Mrs. Flintstone launched a ball off a pitching wedge into the Sumbrella of my golf cart. We had a good laugh with some comments about the Governor's 10 iron assault on Tin Can Man's cart. Mrs. Flintstone chalked up her cue and proceeded to launch her next shot into the undercarriage of the same cart. All we heard was a long series of ricochets' under the cart and the ball disappeared. As Mrs. Flintstone was walking to the back of my cart to look for her ball, several seconds later, all of a sudden, as she puts it, "the cart pooped my ball out" on to the ground at her feet. This rash of golf cart attacks is getting a little crazy.
P.S. . . . . . the cart is okay and breakfast afterwards was great.

Thank you for posting the pictures Your Governership, it looks like the pot luck was a fun night despite the crowds! :BigApplause:
We appear to be missing all the fun on the golf courses, mind we have been having fun our selves.
Yesterday we set off to play 18 holes on a top private course over here and as you would expect in an English summer, it started to rain by Hole 5, and despite raincoats and umbrella's (standard kit over here), by Hole 9 we were soaked and gave up, plus my back was killing me dragging the golf trolley up and down the hills! :cryin2:
I think the Florida Sunshine has thinned our blood for this wet cold weather. :cold:
To even consider Jimbo would countenance assault by a golf ball or even near miss by accident, he is much too good a player to miss a shot he is aiming for - honest. :1rotfl::1rotfl:

Don't forget we couldn't find any 'American English' lessons, the class we ended up enrolling on was 'Colonial English for Intrepid Travellers' and what we didn't realise that the British Empire covered over 60 countries and as most still speak English the slang and dialects is simply bewildering. :ho:
Just for Clarification, Her Ladyship still had her 'Waterproofs' on, I was the only one with a 'Raincoat' on, so we are only half way there, but I suppose that is still progress. :MOJE_whot:

I am hoping that someone will keep the newss article in The Mix so that we can read it when we return. I am glad we are finally getting noticed as residents!
Thanks to Stan and Donna and any other helpers for taking over the golf coordination. It has been really nice for people to get together for golf each day.

We are missing Gilchrist and we have only been gone 2 days! 7 weeks is a very long time.
So take care, see you soon. Love to you, Gayle and Mike
Thanks guys, the seven weeks will fly by, we have been home now for five weeks and it feels like months and months :sing:
Miss you and looking forward to getting back to the in crowd.
We have eight weeks left and counting :crap2:

Looks like Sue and I are charter members of the "Cart Club"....:gc: All you have to do to gain entry is hit someone elses cart. The owner of the cart has to give you a dollar. I'm going to try and find a pin with a cart on it for us!
Glad to be in the club with you, Rusty!

With the Lady Govenerships luck (after all she found you and Gilchrist), it looks like you are getting that bit closer to buying that private plane. :crap2:
Would it be for (cheap) hire for Gillylanders, with a discount for staff? :jester:
Do you think A4 would be happy to pilot it (we could use Brinkley as the runway) and what about putting Jimbo in charge of the maintenance crew? :jester:
Have a really great holiday and we look forward to seeing you again real soon
The private plane fund is gaining ground what with the few quid that the Lady Mayoress has won in addition to her $30 lottery ticket a few weeks ago. I'm sure that A-4 would be happy to fly a nice, moderately sized, high performance jet but we will have to send him to school for familiarization classes! :plane: If we assure him that there is no MB ejection seat on the aircraft I think he'll probably go for the idea like a donkey eating strawberries!!! :1rotfl: I'm sure that the fee would only be enough to cover operating costs which might be fairly reasonable!
From what I hear from Jimbo, we could probably used Hillsbourough Trail for a landing strip as I have it on good authority is is flat, straight and has little traffic to impede high speed vehicles! :crap2:
I think that Jimbo would be wonderful with the maintenance but I only worry about what he will charge us for his time??? :jester::jester:
We need to SKYPE when we get back home. We miss you guys too much!!!

I'D BE PLEASED TO CAPTAIN YOUR BIRD. :plane: I do have an issue with piloting something that Jimbo did maintenance on. In lieu of a MB I could get by with just a chute. Brinkley is still my preferred landing strip. Landing to the east is up hill . . . which helps keeping me from running into Bobby & Susie's house . . . . and to the west is an empty lot and the marsh. (they would have to move that big diesel pump that's been parked there forever for me) For each landing and T/O the people that live on Brinkley would have to suspend the Pony Rides they have been giving to people touring the model homes. HEY . . . we could make this work.

This is getting exciting, now A4 is up for the piloting and Jimbo happy to manage the maintenance. :agree:
Maybe he could even fit some solar panels to cut down on fuel costs. :coolsmiley:
Just a silly question, what's an 'MB' when it is at home? :0000000000luvmyhors
We could have two landing strips, one for southern Gillylanders and outlanders down Hillsborough and one for Northern Gillylanders down Brinkley and we could always move if the Pony Trips are fully booked in advance. :pepper2:

Thanks A4, we don't have an MB but we have something similar in our home, its called 'Her Ladyships Clip', which comprises of a sharp blow around either the left or the right ear, with either a forehand or backhand, accompanied with an exclamation along the lines of "get up and get something done" which accelerates one very sharply out of the seat one was sitting in. :MOJE_whot: :1rotfl:
Did we ought to suggest to Her Ladyship that she will have to fly on all the private Gillyland flights from now on, to administer a 'Clip' when the pilot is not behaving properly or am I getting muddled up with something else and is this a different type of Ejector Seat? :ho: :1rotfl:

Great time today for the 24 Gilly golfers who teed off in the Gilly Firecracker Scramble on Pelican Golf Course this morning. A very competitive outing with all six teams ending within 4 shots of each other. The ultimate winners tied at one under par...Bob "A4" Johnson, Jim Pezzanite, Teryl Bishops, Brent Curry, Gale Gayheart, Brian Pease, Donna and Stan Lavender. Deb Bacon won the one putt challenge with her sinking of a 35' putt. Wow! Stan narrowly edge out A4 in the closest to the pin on hole 7. Happy 4th to all!:boom:

Hi RickCarol! Welcome to the neighborhood! :welcome: I started this thread over a year ago when my wife and I purchased our lot on Bradshaw Lane. It was started to try and get to know our new neighbors. It's since evolved into a community information site where we initially posted info about home types, design ideas, etc. It's transformed itself into the community forum where you pretty much say what you want and pull any practical jokes that you would like. :jester: You can get a pretty good feel for the neighborhood if you read from page 1 to present (if you have the inclination to do so) just to see what's happened in the years time.
Otherwise, just jump in, introduce yourselves and keep an eye out for posts about GillyBrations, driveway parties, pot luck dinners or anything else that happens around the place. You'll most likely want to meet our "Cast of Characters" some of whom are back north for a few months. :sing: I promise when you meet them, you won't forget them. And may require a few drinks to get over them...:wine:
Anyway, welcome!!!

There has been a lot of questions and a bit of confusion lately about who is keeping the “Spreadsheet” or list of residents for several Gilchrist areas.
:Screen_of_Death:
“A-4 Skyhawk” is maintaining the list for Gilchrist units 209 & 210
:posting:
“Peterbrownell” is doing the list for Gilchrist 211 & 212
:posting:
We hear that someone is doing a list for Gilchrist 214 but we’re not sure who. If you are doing a spreadsheet for 214 could you please identify yourself?
We have not heard from anyone in Gilchrist 213.
If you want to get listed on the 209/210 or 211/212 spreadsheet send “A-4 Skyhawk” or “peterbrownell” a private message and they will help you get added to the right list.
I HOPE THIS HELPS

HUGE thanks to “A-4 Skyhawk” for all the hard work he has put in keeping all the Gilchrist neighbors connected. It is a huge never ending job and we are eternally grateful for his willingness to take on the task.
It's a tough decision to split off the various sections of Gilchrist but it clearly is getting too big for even a small group of people to keep up with.
We started talking about development units 211, 212, and 213 as "Gilchrist West" and the name has started to stick.
Even though most of the people on our spreadsheet are from unit 211 now, we would love to try to create a grouping that includes units 211, 212, and 213. If that becomes too big, we'll re-evaluate.
Sounds like we may need the polo field for a full Gilchrist event but looking forward to meeting new neighbors and keeping people in touch.

Several folks have asked for a map of "Gilchrist West" which is basically development units 211, 212, and 213.
Not sure how to upload the map but I'll try :-)

Hi Neighbors, we are the Lovelaces and have posted on this forum a couple of times. We are building in 211 lot 109. 1612 Gullberry Place.
We have been planning on building an Aspen, but lately have been coveting a golf cart garage. We have been looking at the Sunflower as an option. It is very tempting. More house for the $$ (for our wants and needs) but we are a bit concerned about the frame and Vinyl construction.
Mind you, we are not worried about the integrity of the frame and vinyl home. Bill has been a builder, Real Estate Broker and Mortgage broker in Fl, as well as in a couple of other states, and he has explained at great length to me that both types of construction are very sound, each having different advantages, with the cost of frame/vinyl being lower.
What we have noticed is that there seem to be very few frame and vinyl homes in the Designer neighborhoods. We actually think that is a plus for us in building one, but we are wondering if there have actually been any frame and Vinyl home build in our area of Gilchrist. I have weeded through over 300 pages of this thread and saw lots of beautiful Stucco homes in various state of construction. No frame and vinyl.
Will we be facing a negative reaction from neighbors if we build frame??
We have noticed that all the cottage neighborhoods are vinyl and while driving around there we did not like the appearance of the all vinyl neighborhoods nearly as much as those that had vinyl homes scattered among the stucco homes.
Just wondering what the general consensus is.
We are definitely leaning toward the Sunflower at this point as it gives us more home for our $$ and we plan to use the nook (our main objections to most of the floor plans) as a walk in pantry with the arch to the foyer converted to a hall closet from the foyer. We have also seen some great home offices set up in the nook area.
The thing that drew us to the Aspen was no nook and the great wall of glass. It appears we can add the glass to the rear of the Sunflower, which would give us the things we want. We have been told we can add a 2 ft stretch on the guest room side to allow for a closet in the "den", thus converting it into a nice size guestroom and also increase the size of all the rooms on that side.
So there we stand.
Just curious after not seeing any Frame and Vinyl homes under construction on this thread.
Any responses or insight would be appreciated.
Thanks
Heavenstobetsy

hello we built a Lilac in Ghilcrhist and closed in May. There is another frame and vinyl house built a few houses down across the street from us. We like the diversity it brings to the streets having both stucco and vinyl homes. We were very happy with the quality of the construction and vinyl homes need less maintenance over their lifetime. Since we were building on a standard lot- we also like that each room that had an exterior wall was a few inches larger than a stucco version- that was nice since we were not able to stretch anything on our size lot. Build the home you like the best- the neighbors will welcome you just the same!

We had initially purchased a lot on Mayflower Loop in Charlotte but decided that we wanted a larger lot and also changed the house to a Zinnia. TV let us switch the lots with no further payment on a one-time basis. I've noticed that Charlotte has filled up very quickly and it looks like Gilchrist might do the same thing. I can't wait to meet our neighbors (block parties, progressive dinners, drinks on the lanai)....lol. After all these years, I'm ready to have a social life and friends!!!!
I had to smile reading that you wanted a larger lot. Been in TV over 10 years and now down sizing to a courtyard villa in Gilchrist to get grass and the associated weeds out of my life.

The day we christened HTB's site the wind and sand were blowing about 90 mph and it was COLD. Everyone sat zipped in their carts until someone yelled "GO". We froze our butts off. :cold: Now that's real friends. If HTB doesn't pay off her beer bill, there will be a christening of a different kind in the future.

Not sure where Jbird is in Gilchrist. I'm still trying to figure out why a responsible person would dare tell someone with a construction wash problem that their problem sounds "like a sinkhole waiting to happen!". I think these "Sink-Holers" have their own club. :grumpy: How sad. :(

On TOTV we often share info on contractors and services we have found that are good. Here’s a couple we have used recently that we are very happy with.
Cars heat up pretty fast here in Florida in the sun, whether parked or while you’re driving. We always tint our windows which makes a considerable difference. We bought a new car and the dealer recommended a lady who comes to your house and does the tinting right in your garage or driveway. Her name is Cindy and her business is called “Cindy’s Window Tinting” at 352-223-6196. She did a great job and her price is very reasonable. Highly recommend her.
Attached are pictures of some of the crown moldings we just had installed by Creative Finish Carpentry of Florida. (Creative Finish Carpentry (http://www.creativefinishcarpentry.com)) They showed up with 12 people and 3-1/2 hours later they were done. Installed, caulked, painted, and wall color painted. The quality of their work is outrageous. We had molding added to two trey ceilings and the decorative pieces added to the pencil corners. They did every room, including the master shower and toilet. The only rooms they don’t do are closets. We’re very happy with the job. They were real nice people.

Wow...you guys are the veterans of TV....:BigApplause: I totally understand your desire to move into a villa and the ones in Gilchrist look really nice with all of the exterior accents they're putting on. I hope you'll be happy. The reason for the larger lot was my wife's decision after seeing her aunt & uncle's home in Hadley that had "kissing lanai's" with the neighbors. We are really fortunate to have great neighbors on lots that are a smidge offset from each other. It gives a nice feel of privacy to everyone.
We had about 1 3/4 acres to take care of in WV and I was really tired of cutting grass. We have a lawn service so I don't have to do that here...lol

Hi all from Maine, 60 miles from Canada boarder, then onto Prince Edward Island in a week.
Miss TV and U guys
We miss you too Jimbo (and Cathy). In your absence you've given us a couple of great places to keep the pet 3 footer that was running around down on Dafoe.
Question . . . . You being the premier Pet Store owner of the 5 boroughs . . . . . is there some special product we should be using to clean the critter stuff from the bottom of your ponds and swimming pool?
Hey, don't worry about it. Eat a couple of lobsters for us if you get back down to the coast.

I was thinking about Thursday night, July 18th, at Evans Prairie CC at about 7:00 so people who wanted to eat dinner before the event could have an opportunity to do so. :mmmm:

Everyone is always looking for contractors that do a quality job at a reasonable price and are reliable, prompt, and clean up after themselves. We used TOTV to find a tile guy to do the back splash in our kitchen. His name is William "Billy" Parker and we can't say enough good things about him. A copy of his business card is attached. He did the tile one morning and came back the next to do the grout. He's very fussy with his work. He tells you how much tile to get, you buy the tile and grout, and he does the installation. He charged us $300 and he was worth every penny. He also tiles bar / peninsula walls and seals grout. He doesn't do floors any more.

It is with great pride that I am able to announce a new appointment to the management team of the Office of the Mayor! :BigApplause:
As most of you know, the Administrative Department is currently on leave of absence in Great Britain and the Social Coordinator is only able to be sporadically present due to out of state work requirements. Insofar as the absence of these critical personnel has served to wreak havoc on the administration of our fine village the Village Elders have graciously determined that the Mayor has been hopelessly overtaxed in his responsibilities and was in desperate need of assistance. :22yikes:
Therefore, the Village Elders in conjunction with the Mayor have unanimously appointed Bobby "Bunnyslippers" Davis (aka: Bogo) as the Deputy Mayor. :bigbow:
The installation ceremony took place at the 7/18 GillyBration at Evans Prairie on the putting green near the breezeway. The proclamation was announced by the venerable A-4 Skyhawk and appeared to be enthusiastically accepted and agreed upon by all in attendance. Deputy Mayor Bunnyslippers was his usual congenial self and graciously accepted the appointment with gratitude. Deputy Mayor Bunnyslippers was also presented with a sash as a symbol of his new office which was continuously worn throughout the GillyBration! :eclipsee_gold_cup:
Pictures of the momentous occasion are attached. The Village Management Staff realizes that we are operating in austere times but chose to follow the premise that the government must expand in order to adequately address the concerns of all of our friends and neighbors. We thank you for your support!!! :highfive:

Question for our beloved Administrative Department in England????
What is the proper way to address a "Depudie Mayor?" We refer to The Mayor as Hizzoner or Your Worship. But a Deputy Mayor? Hmmmmmm. Please give the lowly peasants across the pond some "proper" guidance on the subject.

A-4 mentioned something about maybe having to buy tickets for the gillybrations at the Bradenton Rec Center because they had so many people attend last time that many were turned away. Can you tell us how we can get tickets for the next one?
The organizers of the first Pot Luck at Bradenton didn't realize how responsive the people of Gilchrist would be to the open invitation. The night of the Pot Luck the rec center front desk informed them that there was a limit on how may people were allowed to use the room. Many people were sadly turned away and I can't tell you how upset the organizers were that people who wanted to attend couldn't get in. Gilchrist is too big and there are too many people eager to meet new friends and socialize to pack them indoors at a place like Bradenton. So for the next Pot Luck the organizers printed a specific number of tickets (at no cost) and gave them out until the max headcount was reached. Even this approach upsets the organizers because they would still like to have events for all residents of Gilchrist. I suggested that when the weather cools off this fall that we have a Wine (and beer), cheese, and cracker party at one of the polo matches or just take over a polo field.
P.S. . . . I thought you were going to organize Gilchrist South (unit 214) and start a spreadsheet / neighborhood listing?? Peter Brownell is doing the list for units 211, 212, & 213. I'm doing it for 209 & 210.

We were advised that construction would commence within about 10 days of the end of the design meeting and would take 2 1/2 - 3 months to complete. I'm hoping that the construction won't be as long as that but if it does, then it does. I'm just going to be happy to be in TV!
When they give you a closing date, you can bank on the house being ready on that date. 2 1/2 to 3 months doesn't sound long to me. I bet you couldn't get a house built that fast where you came from.

We found out that they were right on the money. Our house was actually finished in 9/2012 and it sat empty for about two weeks prior to the closing. There are substantial penalties on the part of the builder if the completion date isn't met...

I'm not sure that this document will post but I thought it was worth giving it a try.
:D
Well, since I've replaced my golf umbrella with my new AR-15 I'd say that we're well armed for any rabid bunnies that happen to cross our tracks!
DM Bunnyslippers does have a few points that we do need to address....
#1 - As bad as I am we can still make the third tee by dark. We've done it before and we can do it again. It's irrelevant.
#2 - Although the ice may have melted by the time we get there it is a proven fact that cold water will keep beer cold for a long period of time if put in a "properly insulated container" therefore this point is also irrelevant.
#3 - Anyone who wears bunnyslippers and lets his friends see him deserves to have said items plugged! Thus also rendering this point irrelevant.
Any additional questions will be addressed as is necessary!
Hizzonor
The Mayor

Shotguns are for amateurs. I use a Smith & Wesson 380. Fortunately it has a built in Laser for night shooting.

As your newly appointed DM, I would be more than happy to fulfill your request! However, there are some issues you need to consider before partaking in my more than generous serving of free beer.
1) After hearing of your golf abilities, by the time you all arrive at the 3rd tee, it will be dark! Therefore, flashlights, lanterns, etc. will be needed to locate your refreshments.
2) Ice buckets will be placed at the 3rd tee, but the ice will need to be replaced frequently before your whenever arrival. Who will replenish the ice?
3) Since the WVa mayor is always armed, the bunnyshoes and I are somewhat apprehensive in participating in the free beer giveaway. Please remember, it is not bunny-hunting season in TV.
Please address these issues and email me back before your late Monday night arrival.
Yours Truly,
Gilchrist DM

Now wouldn't that be a really nice thing for DM Bunnyslippers to do for his comrades? Wonder if he will????

Question for our beloved Administrative Department in England????
What is the proper way to address a "Depudie Mayor?" We refer to The Mayor as Hizzoner or Your Worship. But a Deputy Mayor? Hmmmmmm. Please give the lowly peasants across the pond some "proper" guidance on the subject.
P.S. You won't believe how much the place has changed since you went away. Hurry back.
Sorry, it is not quite as posh for the 'Depudie', we just say Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress
If we made Hizzoner a Lord Mayor, that would leave the way further down the pecking order for more Mayor's, rather than Deputy's
Of course we would worry about the Administrative and financial burden that this would place on the department and then we would also need a chauffeur driven luxury vehicle for the worshipful couple. :gc:
We are counting the days until we get back to you guys :beer3::spoken:

Be mindful that this UK couple and their sidekick Millie still need to get thru US Customs in NY in Sept.
I have several calls into my congressman to ask that they be permitted entrance but with their past pranks are being investigated in depth.....so far it doesn't look good.
May need to transfer my bail bond $$ over to Andy & Wendy.
They R very curious why they R landing in NY to drive Fl rather than just flying there.
Wonder if it has to do with the witness protection thing and the MI5 or MI6.
.
Shhh, we need to keep a low profile :pepper2::pepper2:
HRH Mille needs to fly in 'up north' where it is colder and her comfort comes first.

Did anyone notice the length of terms for the mayors featured in the Daily Sun this morning??? Some of those people have had really long tenures....:faint:
I have to wonder to myself how they stand the emotional and physical rigors of the position????

:highfive:
Sincerely
Hizzonor

DITTO from me.
I'm having trouble handling the pressure of keeping the finances for the Flock. It started out as the Bail Money Fund for Jimbo2012 and everyone got upset when they found out I was spending the money on beer. :beer3:
After watching the British Open :gc: for a while I think a Reorganization of Gilchrist Leadership is in order. I like the idea of a King & Queen :ho: and I think we already have a pair with exposure and familiarity with the concept.
And what a triumphant return it will be when they get back from Great Britain to assume the throne of Gilchrist. :BigApplause:
WHAT SAY ALL YE' GILLY'S ?? :bigbow:
