Hi Everyone! My wife and I have just purchased a lot in the Village of Gilchrist and have a design meeting on July 9th. We've already got a rental residence lined up and can't wait to become official Villagers. We hope to be there by mid-July if the closing on our home goes as planned. If anyone else is going into Gilchrist please stop by and give us a post...

I think you are the first to say they are from Gilchrist. Welcome to you.
Hope you enjoy every second of a thousand years here with us! We live NORTH of you up in Laurel Valley!

Hi WVMtnBoy
Hope you move is easy for you. From what I see Gilchrist really sounds nice.
Your move is a little ahead of us. Waiting for my Medicare. Hubby wishes
I was as old as he is. We could be in TV. Coning in Oct 2013.
Wish it could be sooner, but I am told all good things come to those
who wait. Not sure I have that waiting faith. We hope Gilchrist will have
room for us, but They sell out quickly.
Good luck in your move.
Hope to meet someday soon.

We had initially purchased a lot on Mayflower Loop in Charlotte but decided that we wanted a larger lot and also changed the house to a Zinnia. TV let us switch the lots with no further payment on a one-time basis. I've noticed that Charlotte has filled up very quickly and it looks like Gilchrist might do the same thing. I can't wait to meet our neighbors (block parties, progressive dinners, drinks on the lanai)....lol. After all these years, I'm ready to have a social life and friends!!!!

We were advised that construction would commence within about 10 days of the end of the design meeting and would take 2 1/2 - 3 months to complete. I'm hoping that the construction won't be as long as that but if it does, then it does. I'm just going to be happy to be in TV!

So your home in Gilchrist will be finished mid to late October? That will give me another new village to explore this fall.

Hi to MtnBoy and the wife. We bought in Fernandina #208 on Quail Court, so we are right "next door". We have our Design Mtg on July 3, so our house should be done about a week before yours. We plan to move in shortly afterward. Looks like several lots have sold in Gilchrist so you should have lots of neighbors soon - however, you can come on over to the Bird Neighborhood and join in the fun. Welcome and congratulations! It's very exciting!

That's what we were told...we'll see what the info is at the conclusion of the design meeting. Hope your meeting goes well. How about letting me know what the meeting was like. Even if we do have neighbors, we'll still make a trip to Quail Court to say "Howdy"!

Suki, I just checked your profile...competition shooting, huh? Sounds interesting. I think there's a shooting range not too far from TV.

Sorry to hear you bailed out of Mayflower Loop, where we would have been neighbors. We're still in the same holler and, being a native WV Mountain Boy myself, looking forward to meeting you. Our iris will be finished in about three weeks and we'll start slowly moving to TV soon after. We really liked the design process, which is very complete yet quick. They love answering questions so don't hold back.

Hi Terp! Nice to hear that there's another hillbilly in TV. We really like Mayflower Loop but the lot wasn't big enough to handle our "updated" plans. I think Gilchrist will be close enough that two country boys can get together once we get down there. If things go as planned, we should be in a rental house by mid-July. Keep in touch and we will get together when we get there!

Thanks for the welcome, everyone! My wife's aunt & uncle have been in TV for about 4 years now and love it. They were our inspiration for moving. I have no doubt that we will love it here. I am really surprised to hear they said your home would take 2 1/2 to 3 months. Normally they say the Designer homes take 60 days...Maximum 70 with changes. Definitely not 90 days. Is it possible they are actually backed up?

I think we will probably get a firm time frame once the design meeting is over but we were told 2 1/2 - 3 months by our sales rep. They may be backed up since the design appointments have been so popular. I guess it just takes as long as it takes. And, thanks for the popcorn...I love popcorn....:MOJE_whot:

WVMtnBoy: I just did a search on "Gilchrist" and came up with this thread! I am a fellow Gilchristian (?) and have only "met" one other poster here who is too! My husband and I are 209.32. Our design meeting is mid-September.
Your post about progressive dinners and drinks on the lanai is what prompted me to reply. I'm all in! We are not able to move into our home until next summer (I'm a teacher and even though I could leave mid-year, I would never "abandon" my AP Calculus kids--I just don't roll like that).
How did your design meeting go (it must be over by now)? I need DETAILS! PM me if you have the chance!

Ah yes Calculus, and Trig, and all those higher maths we had to take to get to college.
I am glad that part is over and I will always be in awe of those who teach it as it was not easy for me to learn it.
Martha Washington, who was in my class was such a chatterbox. I was distracted.
That is my story and I am stickin' to it.:pepper2:

Hi We have also purchased a plot in Gilchrist on Amherst Way, we have our design visited booked for Sept, we cannot wait.

Graciegirl: don't be in awe of those of us who teacher higher level math...my younger sister is a kindergarten teacher (in Raleigh NC) and she teaches kids how to READ! That is the greatest gift you can give anyone as it is the key to everything. I am in awe of her everyday. And just so you know...my students think I dated Pythagorus!

Sorry we've been gone from TOTV for such a long time but it's been a very long three weeks. We've closed on our house (money in the bank), moved my mother to NC, had our design meeting and made the trek to The Villages. We worked with Jim Lane as our design consultant and couldn't have been happier with the process. Jim was a true expert and we got everything we requested (altered kitchen design and stretches to lanai/front bedroom). Our sales agent, Jason Kranz, advised us to go around the the model homes and get our exterior colors, exterior light style and door style prior to the design meeting. Believe it or not, this did help the process. We took our time, asked quite a lot of questions and felt that we were honestly and fairly dealt with. Construction starts on the home on 7/24 and is to be completed by 9/27. They actually gave us this info in writing. Everything went so smoothly that we couldn't believe it! So, we have the moving truck unloaded and are in the process of settling into our rental condo. So far, I absolutely love TV and don't expect this to change any time in the future. It's good to be here!!!!

Hi John & Wendy, My wife and I just arrived in TV this week after closing and moving into a rental residence. It's good to be in contact with other Gilchristers. Our lot is on the corner of Bradshaw and Kilgore. We are supposed to begin building sometime this week. When you get here please let us know so we can get acquainted! :2excited:

House Update: Went to the site on Sat and found rough-in plumbing and a notice from the inspector that there were deficiencies that needed to be corrected. Back to the site on Mon and found the inspector had signed off on the work so far and that rebar had been put into the footer ditches. There was another large batch of rebar laying by the ditches. I figured that we would have footers by Fri. Went back to today and this is what we found! Approximately 30 guys working on a completed slab laying block for the walls. I was stunned. The all looked like a bunch of worker bees. So it progresses!

Wow, I was there last week and there was nothing. Zipdoodle. Amazing. I will have to take a walk down and take a look. They started a house on the corner across from us last week and within one week, the walls are up. Shocking, it is. Don't be surprised when they put the roof on in one day. No kidding.

What is amazing is that when they get to the landscaping part, the home looks like it has been there for six months, beautifully complete, it is so much fun to watch.
They do a remarkable job quickly, but expertly. Their builders have been with them a LONG time.

Interesting that the builders only coat the lower 3' of the lumber with the green bug barrier liquid. Appears they do not use pressure treated lumber in all applications. May not be necessary.

No treated is allowed I believe indoors, that is correct spray height for termites.

On need to be jealous, CalcTeacher! You'll be here soon enough. The Zinnia didn't come with a golf car garage so we had to add that to the right side of the house as you look at if from the street. The Queen Bee had to have her craft room so we just extended the line of the golf car garage back another 16'. We also did a 2' bump to the front bedroom which is now as large as the master suite and a 2' bump to the lanai.

Hi Flintstones! Welcome to the neighborhood!!! Where is your lot located? I have to say that life here is pretty good (sitting on the lanai, drinking coffee and playing on the computer)...lol. I hope you enjoy your design meeting as much as we did. Our sales agent gave us some sage advice. He advised us to look around the model homes and select 2-3 exterior colors (there's a rule here that the same exterior colors can't be within 1-2 homes of each other), a door design and color and the exterior lights before the meeting. I don't know why but this made the meeting go very smooth. We also came prepared with any changes we wanted to make to the design. We loved our designer, Jim Lane, so ask for him if you can! Hope to see you soon! I envision a lot of relaxing evenings on the patio, block parties and get togethers with wonderful, new neighbors.

House Update: We went to the house last evening and not much outwardly visible progress so no pics. After going inside we found that the majority of the insulation had been put into the living spaces plus cable and tv wiring in place. A huge amount of sheetrock had been delivered and placed into the house. There was also a huge pile of stucco material outside so I'm guessing that the sheetrock will be next as well as the exterior finish on the block. Can't wait for another 2 days to pass so we can really see the progress!

Thanks everyone! The house is coming along nicely. My wife didn't like the open kitchen concept and found a kitchen from another model. She printed off the other model floor plan, cut it out and pasted it onto the floor plan of the Zinnia. This one of the changes that we were holding our breath about but it went through design without a hitch. She's a pretty smart gal and knew what she wanted. She also wanted white cabinets to help lighten the space but thought that a dark green granite counter with gold flecks would "pop" and I think she's right. For those of you who haven't started building yet...patience because your turn will definitely come and you'll enjoy the process as much as we have! We can't wait to meet all of you!!!

We specified the granite for the kitchen only when we did the design and were referred to "Ultimate Granite" (I think) which is on 301 near Hungry Howies Pizza in Wildwood. We got to shop around and pick our personal "slab". It was a neat process!
Actually the green and white is due to our being Marshall University (WV) graduates, although no disrespect intended to the Spartans!!

I was looking for places to rent a golf cart as we are coming down in October to meet with the design team and found all your comments about "New Villagers in Gilchchrist" by accident--that's exactly what we'll be! After countless trips down and numerous times of looking at hundreds of houses-we decided to bite the bullet and bulld again (already did once in Ohio). We put money down on lot #54 on Eastfield Path and will start the building process after we meet with the team on the 15th. All your comments are so helpful--because of our job situations in the North I don't know when we'll actually become permanent residents of Gilchrist but my husband is shooting for yesterday! Learning the design and building ropes from the two of you has turned into an expensive deal. It's "beer well spent". I don't like surprises and I'm one of those "planning fools", so anything I can pick up before design day helps. It's too bad TV doesn't have a Design Day Owners Manual they can give you to prepare you for design day. Here's what you can expect . . . Here are the choices you will have to make. . . . My first design consultation question to WVMtnBoy cost me a beer. That must have been like some kind of introductory offer. Second question and I was up to 3 beers. Now he's into me for a case. And he doesn't drink cheap stuff. BEWARE:22yikes:
Actually, we're both doing Zinnia's and I have stolen several ideas from his design and build experience. His add on Craft Room is a fantastic idea that we are going to copy and make into a study / office / TV room without tieing up a bedroom.

Most ignore that issue and only discover the problem the first afternoon they move in. It's a good idea to shop for a home or site with a compass. :read:

Most of the weather down here seems to come from the west so we figured that if we got a west facing home we wouldn't have to put up with the evening sun and the blowing rain. I've seen lanai's that were unusable in bad weather because the rain blows in and covers the whole thing. Hopefully, we'll avoid that because the front of the house will get most of the weather. Guess we'll see. We officially close on 9/27.

Well, we look out our lanaii at 15 degrees north which means we get the sun rising on one end where our table is and the sun setting where the couches and coffee table is. Works for us :) and the pool gets sun all day.
jimbo2012
09-15-2012, 07:35 PM
this time of the year the sun is more overhead and extends its arc more north, in the winter it will be lower and its arc decreases not knowing the lot layout I'll guess the home may shade the pool in the winter somewhat.
But of course it all works

Hey Batman! If I remember correctly we had the choice of two different fronts for the home, if that's what you're talking about. For the Zinnia (at least) one was set back from the front of the home and the other was where the peak was flush with the front. We chose the latter and there was no charge. It included a regular hip roof which is, for some reason, cheaper to insure. We ended up going with The Villages Ins and got a quote from Ark Royal which I felt was reasonable. The basic policy included Catastrophic Ground Collapse and we purchased the additional Sink Hole Coverage. We also got our golf car insurance from them.
As for the beer, A-4, has racked up quite a debt between HotRod and myself...roflmao! We can't wait until the neighborhood is built up. Based upon what I've seen so far, we're going to have a great one! I'm also going to put in a lime tree but I also want to have a lemon tree for other drinks as well!

Batman: the Lantana had 5 different elevations to choose from. I did change mine at my design team meeting for N/C. Actually had my plans out today to see how many square feet I gained with my changes. It was 642 SQ FT, almost 300 of which were climate controlled. Would have liked to add a bit more storage off the garage, but ran out of lot!:MOJE_whot:

My cousins live in Poinciana and come by every so often to let us know the status of the neighborhood--can't wait to meet everyone when we come down next month. Thanks for all your help through your postings-hopefully with the changes we want to make our desigm meeting will go smoothly also. We'll keep in touch

Well, these are probably the last pics that I will post on the house. Everything is done except for touch up painting. The builder said last week that they are letting the house sort of settle in and mesh with itself...lol. It's locked up tight to prevent things from "growing legs and walking away". We close in 11 more days. Enjoy the pics!
Oh yea..A-4... I know you'll want to know the dimensions of the "new" sitting area and they are 8'2"x9'2" (left and right walls, respectively). :1rotfl:
WVMtnBoy, your house looks great. Wishing you and your wife many happy years!
Question for you... how to you enter the craft room you added?

WVMtnBoy is in his back yard planting lime trees. We're stealing his craft room design but we're going to use it as a study / TV room. He took the window out of the laundry and replaced it with a door shifted towards the kitchen so he can put pantry cabinets on the garage wall of the laundry. He had a really good idea and I'm sure it will be copied by a bunch of people adding a GC garage on the side of their house. Radar says it's raining hard down there. I hope WV didn't get soaked with his lime plantation.:clap2:

Question for you... how to you enter the craft room you added?
In the Zinnia you have the garage, laundry room and finally entry into the kitchen. We added a golf car garage the the exterior of the house and carried the wall of the GC garage farther back to make the craft room. We added a door in the laundry room exterior wall that leads directly into the craft room. Sounds confusing but if you look at the floor plan it should become clear. We esentially added a double length GC garage and split it in half with a wall. It's difficult to find a house plan (at least it was for us) that lent itself to the addition of a room while providing a logical way to get to the room from the inside of the house.
Thanks for the good wishes! Hope to meet you when you get here!

Home brewing is quite a tradition along the ridges and in the hollars of Rusty's home state, W-by-G-Va. Might drop in from the village of Charlotte for some of that white lightning myself.
Hey Terp! Where in the world have you guys been. Welcome back! Anyway, you're right that WV has a long and proud brewing tradition but I'm talking about the legal stuff and not the kind that can get you in trouble with revenuers! Of course, if it ever became legal I'd have to try that too! Family tradition has it that my mothers family from Natural Bridge, Virginia made shine for the Confederacy so it my be in my genes naturally!!!
Why don't you guys give us a shout and lets go out for drinks and/or dinner some night?????

Hi Twin! Please don't worry about your design meeting. The best advice that I can offer is to have a firm idea of what you want and go for it. The designers are fantastic and the process is not one of pulling your hair out. They either have all the answers or can get same very quickly. So, tell them what you want and see what they say. I would shoot for the moon as far as desires because the process includes giving you a build price and if that exceeds what you want you can begin pulling things out to get the price point where u want it. HotRod is the best that I've seen or heard in that she had a sheet listing "Must Haves", "What I Want" and "What I Want But What I Can Do Without If I Have To". The bumps and stretches do not add that much to the price of the house so bump and stretch to the extent you want. Also, do yourself a favor and absolutely get a GC garage. I've talked to people who didn't do so because they thought they didn't need the storage room and now deeply regret their decision. Please get in touch with us when you come down for your design meeting and we'll get together for dinner and/or drinks! You're gonna love it down here!

Back in 1978 I spent 9 months on a project on top of a mountain at Davis, WV. It was called Mount Storm, and it snowed every day for 32 days. That's where I learned about a West Virginia version of a Bloody Mary called a Red Eye. 1/2 tomato juice and 1/2 beer. Those were some FINE people up there on that mountain. It doesn't surprise me that WVMtnBoy has some "home brewing skills". I can see why he swapped to Corona.:a040:

Twin, WV is right. Make yourself a list or spreadsheet with absolutely everything you can muster up that you WANT. Determine which of those things you are not willing to negotiate on and those that you definitely want if possible. Then mark those things you would like, but can live without. I put my entire list on the left and made corresponding colums to the right for must haves, definite wants, and not so important. When I went to the meeting, I told my designer I had a list and we went through it item by item. There was precious little that was not doable, and in the end it all came down to budget. I did not have to give up much, and and happy with my choices as I am sure you will be as well! My only real advice is to do any additions as far as construction now and the rest will wait if need be! Structural changes are best done in the beginning!! Best of luck!

Sounds close to what I plan to do with our Ivy. I would like to extend the GC garage back about 20 ft to gain a tool room/work bench/storage area. I would lose the window in the former laundry room (which we will use as a pantry) but could choose to add a door there as well. We plan to have 2 GCs which will fill the GC garage.

Come on you guys! Get down here already!
:beer3:
WVMtnBoy,
Good to know. The Ivy has 4 different front designs and I believe our agent said there could be an additional charge for some. As usual, the one I like will probably be the most expensive.

Speaking of Woo Hoo, I hate to paint. When you met for the design what choices, if any. do you have for paint color? If they give you a choice is it one color or can you change from room to room?
hotrodgirl
09-17-2012, 06:01 PM
There are 2 interior colors. White and something they call Hayseed (ecru or cream color) that's it. Flat only, no satin. I didn't want white, the other is neutral, so that is what I chose. I will most likely paint an accent wall in most rooms..... The exterior has many more choices!
A-4 Skyhawk
09-17-2012, 06:32 PM
Our Sanibel cottage has Hayseed which might as well be white. I painted the mail box post here in Tennessee this weekend which reminded me HOW MUCH I HATE TO PAINT:ohdear: When we build in Fernandina it may stay hayseed for a long time:boxing2:
Thanks for the info.
WVMtnBoy
09-17-2012, 07:17 PM
I will warn ya A-4...the builder will paint your interior any color you desire but there is an additional charge for any colors other than white or hayseed. The explanation we received was that additional colors require taping off, etc. We went with the hayseed which I thought had a nice, neutral color. We're going to hire someone to paint the two accent walls in the additional seating area (former nook) or I will do it when I'm back on my feet. At any rate, it shouldn't be too expensive. For everything else I'm like you, it'll remain hayseed. The outside color shouldn't be a prob for you. The had lots of exterior colors to choose from but there is also a caveat here. They won't allow the same exterior colors next to each other. I think there has to be at least a 1 or 2 lot separation. So, if you're the first to build you can have anything you want. If you're building where homes already exist you can have anything as long as your color isn't taken by someone within 1-2 lots of you.
jimbo2012
09-17-2012, 07:26 PM
Reading here there are several painters that can be hired at fair rates, so worry about it later.
hotrodgirl
09-17-2012, 07:34 PM
You betcha! Hayseed it is for the time being... I should be able to paint some accent walls myself. Just did so in Boynton, so i'll perhaps start with the 3rd bedroom here? See how that pans out!!!! I understand though... It would take years for people to pick colors, and then would it all match up if not mixed at the same time? I'm sure they don't want the confusion or liability! Or complaints when the color isn't "just right".

I'm pretty good at woodworking light construction as hobby, had a chance to get into several houses prior to sheet rock, they do a very good build, sure I can nitpick stuff but really minor.
On finished models there are more issues I've seen, but again minor except one living room rug was a really bad job.
When mine is finished the builder will get a longer list than most hand him, I just have an eye for anything out of perfect.
But to the average buyer they will not see it.
All & all they build great houses, very happy to be working with these builders.

Interesting comment, my wife just said that if we were shopping north of 466, she would probably not be interested, the two areas are very different and underscores an earlier comment I made about the camaraderie there is in a village where we are all sharing the the same issues not only now but as mods R made in the future, I don't think you can find that in a 10, 20 or older village.
I have now spent real time driving around the new villages they are IMO more alive....activity level is sooo much higher.
Do U guys see or feel that?

I think you are right in the sense that because everything (and everyone) is so new, the excitement level is higher. Everyone is making a change in their lives, meeting new people and starting a new lifestyle! Plus seeing an entire community being built up is something I certainly have never experienced before. Plus we all are basically in the same situation which makes everyone start as equals.

I totally agree with you guys! My wifes aunt & uncle have been here for 5 years and their advice has always been the same...build! Not that the other areas aren't nice because they most definitely are but you're basically going into a neighborhood where friendships, golf 4somes, etc have already been established and it's more difficult to work your way in. That being said, I think its a good idea to keep this thread alive! Nobody's going to be left in the dust and hotrod is right in that new neighbors will be a welcome sight for all of us! I will warn everyone though...from personal experience the most difficult part of this process is once ground is broken to the closing. You see daily progress and you start chomping at the bit to get into your new digs!!! I'll post pics of the new place when we get in on Thursday. Have a great week everyone! Now about that Margaritta machine--our good friends up at Lake Erie where we boated for many years had one and we managed many a weekend to put it to good use:) Keep an eye on our lot for us--#54 and hope to see you soon.
Hi Twin! Where is your lot located? When do you build? Want pics? rofl...
I've still got my eye on the margarita maker. The only problem I'm having is deciding on the single pitcher or the triple pitcher style! A-4 Skyawk has started a spreadsheet for all of us so we can keep in contact. If you want added (and who wouldn't!) PM A-4 and I'm sure he'll be glad to add you. Please keep in touch! My wife and I are from WV so I know what you mean about dark and dreary. I have to say that it's in the 80's and sunny in our little slice of heaven. In the meantime consider your sand lot under the watchful eye of WVMtnBoy!!!

Ahhhhhh Yes . . . the spread sheet. It's called "The Gilly Fern". I started it to keep track of who's who, where and what they were building, and what their status is. I'm not a "Community Organizer" and have asked myself where is this list going?? I think it will end up with a mass email to everyone on the list telling them on a certain date we're all going to golf cart to a square and take it over. I think the kids call it a Flash Mob". Or anyone on the list can use it for however they see fit. This thread says "Gilchrest" in it, but my list is more Fernandina than Gilchrist. Since we will all use the Bradenton Village Rec Center one day, I figured we'd all be good neighbors. So if you want to make the list, we'd love to have you. Hopefully your new neighbors will make the list and you'll be able to start communications before you're all settled in. Send me a PM with the following info, I'll add you to the list, and put it back out to your email address:
Name(s); TOTV name (like A-4 Skyhawk); Village; unit & lot; future street address; House style; Phone Number (optional); email address; Status (Permanent or part time, design, closing, or move in date, beverage choice, etc) (Looking for more Corona drinkers):beer3:

You are all ahead of us so I hope we are not left behind in the dust! We won't have our design meeting until July so I hope you are not all partied out by the time we move down!
Gilchrist is well represented on here so we need to get some more Fernandinians posting!
Hotrod girl was going to be our next door neighbor but she moved lots and switched to Gilchrist so she is truly a Gilly Flocker!
Would sure like to find out who bought that lot next to us and will be our new neighbors!
Calc Teacher, I am like you since I am in my last year of teaching! Hope this year goes fast!
Fellow Michigander,
We live in Davison, Michigan and I retired from teaching July 1st. Small world isn't it? We should be in Gilchrist by the end of December! See you at the pool!

It's official with the start of the build. I feel like a real Gilly now! It will be awesome to get down there and start meeting neighbors as they begin to move in! Lots of us on Amherst finishing up in December, I see! Methinks a New Years party of some sort will be in order!
Thank you WV for posting those pictures for me! Exciting to have them for the "first day"! Good job... hey, is that going to cost me more Corona? What will they do when all their trucks start appearing in our neighborhood? Anyone have a garage big enough for an eighteen-wheeler? :beer3:

Sounds like everything is moving along nicely. Happy to provide the pics for HotRod and will be equally glad to get pics for CalcTeacher on Wednesday!
Janice and I had a great dinner with TerpDawg this evening at the City Flame followed by drinks and fantastic conversation!!! I think Terp is also going to join the Fern-Gillys spreadsheet and I gave him A-4's name.
I already told you, HotRod, that all of this is gratis since we found out today that we were even closer than we originally thought!
Twin...I think we're all going to be drinking buddies...rofl. I'm going to put on my magicians hat right now and make a prediction that we are going to have a "kick-ass" neighborhood!
If all of you guys don't hurry up and get down here I don't know what I'm gonna do!!!!

We will be in section 209 lot 11 on Amherst Way. We just have some nice dirt at the moment. Our design meeting is in 23 days and then it begins. We are so anxious for the move, I don't know how you will wait out the school year. A retired teacher cocktail hour sounds wonderful to me. Enjoy your class this year and know that fun times, sunshine and new friends are ahead.

Okay...call me OCD if you will (but you better not...lol) but I've finally figured out how to print a map of Gilchrist 209 off of the computer. Then, going with the lot numbers that can be read on TV website, I've got all of the lots numbered so I know where you guys are going to be building...whew! Now, maybe I can keep everyone straight!

Trust me A-4, when I was in the field GPS wasn't invented yet and we didn't have body armor, portable radios, cages in the cars, pepper spray, expandable batons or computers/internet connection. All we had was and old low band radio, .357 magnum revolver with dump pouches for spare ammo, shotgun (which had to be unloaded and cased in the trunk) and a 36' hickory riot baton...rofl. Ahhhh, the good old days! Now days I depend on good old paper maps and GPS!

Thanks very much, we can only bump front or back 2' on our lot, we think we will bump one front BR out into bow window which doesn' effect the build foot print.
Then the lanai is 32x9 already there is grass on one end of that lanai, 18' wide, I'm thinking about adding a cage over that and bumping it 2', so it will be 18x11.
Perfect spot for a spa. so the lanai will be 50' long.
There are other changes that will available on design dates after Dec 1 not sure what they are except they reconfigured the laundry and entry way that looks fantastic.
The new design center will be opening soon I 'll find out if there are any other changes.
One thing I want to change is add a slider off the kitchen nook in place of the windows.
We also will drop all the windows down 6" from 24" to 18" sill height, makes a big difference.

HotRodGirl has a concrete foundation and her pool is poured. Good progress for three days I think. The block and mortor are on site and I'd bet she'll have walls tomorrow!! Then the fun begins. Hi Everyone! Thanks for all of the good wishes for the walk through and close tomorrow morning. I went to the bank this afternoon and got the closing check. The lender didn't tell me the final amount until about 3:30pm and I made a mad dash so I wouldn't have to worry about being on time in the morning. I don't believe we'll have any problems since the lenders agent called day before yesterday and told us that the loan was back from the underwriters with no problem. When I was coming back from the bank this afternoon I drove by the house (of course) and noticed that TV had even cut the lawn for our home and the neighbor directly behind us whose home is also finished. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised but thought it was a nice touch to have everything looking good for the closing.
I agree with Twin that it seems like time has flown by since this thread was started on July 9th and here we are with 25 pages of posts and who knows how many views! I think it says something about the kind of people with whom we will be living.
For those of you who aren't here yet, patience...lol. You'll get here soon enough and the rest of us will be waiting for you with a cold one/glass of wine. Don't worry, we won't be partied out when you get here! For those of you who are just starting to build, patience...lol. The time will go by faster than you will realize. For those of us that are here...LET THE PARTY BEGIN!!!!
Seriously, the process has been relatively painless and the well oiled machine that we know as TV knows how to do business (at least most of the time).
I'll get pics of CalcTeachers & HotRods builds tomorrow when we go for the walk through.
HotRod & Twin...I'll try not to let the new house get in the way of my neighborhood watch and photographic duties!!!
Terp...we need to get together for drinks before you go back home.
A-4...ya better hurry up and get your butt down here!!!
Talk to y'all tomorrow!!!
