Hi Trish and Steve,
Another new pair of neighbours to meet, we will be over from the end of November, please call, the fridge will be full of cold beer and wine!

We have a house on the market in France and the market there is flat so it is not just the Uk and the US, but it will sell eventually we're sure.

Come Xmas there will be quite a team there to help our 'Mayor' to keep track of all the new builds, hand out the advice and organise the parties:welcome:.

Hope to see you both soon

Best regards
Andy, Wendy & Millie

Okay everyone! Sorry for the absence yesterday but had to pick up the boss at the airport and the mother required a lot of attendtion...lol.

First is the good news, Twinspin has a foundation and walls. I was down there early this afternoon and they were filling in the top holes of the block in preparation for the roof joists. I didn't see those on site but you can bet they will be here quickly!

Congrats!!!

You guys are doing wonderfully. I got to meet you mom & dad Sunday when they were taking pics for you because you were "complaining about not getting pictures"...rofl. I went back over this afternoon and got a few more pics. The rough-in painting has been done and the workers were painting the pool deck. It looks really nice!!!

Can't wait until you get here Friday!!!

You guys are also doing wonderfullly. All of the drywall has been completed and most of the doors have been installed. I'd say that the painting is not far behind!

I don't know what I was thinking when you asked about homes on either side of you (obviously I wasn't) but you have two very nice homes on either side that are just a little bit behind you in the construction scheme!

Lots of progress and I am SO happy you all are catching up to me! And Twin-you finally have walls after what must seem an eternity to you. Seems Junction is waiting for stucco soon, and Calc the birdcage!!! OMG! What will we have to look forward to when all this is done? Wait-did I hear PARTY:bigbow:
Seriously, it is looking awesome and I am quite certain Rusty is ready for the block(s) to fill up! I close 4 weeks from tomorrow! :) so anxious to get my butt down there and see what it's all about! Looking forward to spending some quality time with all of you and to see everyone's homes!

My husband and I also met your parents on Sunday. We had to take a sneak look at your house. You have such a beautiful view from your back deck that we never even went into the house!

We will be building in Fernandina next year. We live about an hour away from The Villages so we make a monthly trip to see the changes to the landscape. We find it amazing to see the changes from month to month.

We hope that you enjoy your new home, it can't be long before you settle in. :MOJE_whot:

A quick question ... are they now saying 10 weeks ... last we had heard it was 7 weeks. We do not have our design app't until Dec. but are trying to plan.
Thanks

We had our design meeting 10/15--they started the build 10/24 and our close date is 1/8/13-so about 10.5 weeks. I'm sure the whole structure will be completed a couple weeks prior but we can't get the keys and meet with the builder until we close on the 8th of Jan. Once your design meeting is finished you'll have your start date and close date when you walk out the door. I was happy it was after the holidays as didn't want to close right in the middle of Christmas--we could always opt to close by mail and then meet with the builder at a later time.

Yes! My parents mentioned that they met you! We like our view too! We don't play a lick of golf...just bought the lot for the view! Unfortunately, we're a little close to the cart path...hope no one mistakes our bedroom window for a drive-up window! We have no been there since our design meeting in mid-September. But the pictures Rusty has provided definitely show an ever-changing landscape! Not sure we'll recognize the place when we get there! We'll be moving in next summer...come ANYTIME for a visit, Lorraine!

Hey Girl! As promised I went by your home today and found that the workers were filling the pool! It's about 2/3 full and you've got a nice little lizard/gecco on the floor. It also looks like the stove is in your summer kitchen but it's a little hard to tell because the camera focused on your screen instead.

Hope you enjoy your pics

Hi Everyone! It appears that the pool deck is complete and I saw a load of covered and masked men tramping into your home this morning with a lot of paint. Enjoy!!!

That sky in the background looks awesome but a little scary also!

How exciting for all of you with the beautiful pictures Rusty has taken. We know from experience just how hard it is to build and not be there. Fortunately for us we also had a Rusty to take pictures of the daily progress. I am guessing each Sales Rep may do the same thing, when we closed she gave us a photo album of all the weekly pictures that TV took along with a little baggie of sand from our lot. It also is something nice to have. Best wishes on all you upcoming closings as well as many happy and healthy years in your new homes! Hope to meet many of you in January.

So, I wasn't online yesterday because I was invited to a special sneak preview of the new 007 Skyfall! At an IMAX theatre. There was a nice reception prior with lots of food and drink courtesy of Morgan Stanley, and they kept handing out popcorn and candy all throughout the movie. Which, by the way, was totally awesome!
Gosh, everybody, LOVE,LOVE,LOVE all the new pictures of your homes! And thank you Rusty for including mine in the mix even tho you cannot get in! I truly appreciate it!!
Junction! Love your French doors in the Elm! I did not know that was an option and it was so very astute of you to ask! Nice to have a different feel in your home! Can't wait to see them in person!
And Twin will soon have a completed roof! And they will also be locking up Calc's before too very long:confused: but then again, we haven't seen your cabinets and countertops yet! Calc-you leave tomorrow? Have a great time in lower paradise and don't get Rusty into any trouble....

Hi Everyone who has asked, but we haven't got any French Doors, wish we had but our Mayor/Photographer has made a little focusing error and taken a photo of somewhere else (we hope).
What we should have are Patio Doors that slide back into the wall and No Columns in the Dining Room - oh oh:sing:

Dear Junction29, I have to humbly apologize for the error in the pics. I was walking through back yards when taking the pics yesterday and evidently I miscounted homes and made a huge error. I think that the pressure is beginning to get to me! :faint:

Good News - You definitely Do Not have french doors and columns in your dining room!!!

Good News - You are painted inside with the trim work installed and also painted!!!

Bad News - checked the post and nothing :rant-rave: You'll soon learn about our postal system. They often deliver things before they say they will (just ask A-4) and just as often they don't deliver things until well after they said they will..

Just a quick note to everyone...sorry for the lack of pics today. Seems that the day was consumed by changing addresses for everything under the sun for my mother and then we had a drs appointment that effectively shot the rest of the day.

When we left for her appt at 2:30, Twinspins rafters were laying on the ground. When we finally got back at 6:00 the rafters were up and the roof was half covered in plywood sheeting. I was stunned!!! But, things are really moving fast at that home site.

I promise pictures (correct ones, Junction) tomorrow.

Every day here in Chicago is a struggle now. Especially since I closed on the sale of my investment property earlier this week. Now I just want to BE THERE! Plus, they get to see their house :-) Honestly, I truly am as excited for everyone else as I am for myself. We all have a terrific opportunity to begin life anew with many old and new friends alike. I cannot imagine a better outcome for my retirement, and it is due to so many of you that I know I will indeed be comfortable and happy with my decision! I look forward to meeting each and every one of you and know happiness lies ahead for all! Seems we are definitely an upbeat group!

Let's see . . . . I own a cottage in Sanibel, a lot in Fernandina, and I'm trying to get a lot in Gilchrist. They say that the average person in The Villages has three places before they settle down. Hell . . . . I'm going for three and I'm not even permanent yet. That's got to be some kind of record? Maybe I'll win a lot in Gilchrist.

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY "MAYOR". I've been a little under the weather and dealing with getting our new Radon Mitigation system up and running before the buyers will go to closing. Closing is scheduled for 12/7 and our move to the cottage in Sanibel is scheduled for 12/27 or 12/28. I'll fly back up right after the first of the year for the movers to pick up and store our stuff, and then drive "The Machine" back to Florida for good.

The amount of construction in both 209 and 210 has increased dramatically in the last month. 210 seems to be flowing with "spec" homes while 209 is filling up with homes sold to fill lot sales. The dust from dirt and brick cutting is everywhere and the noise begins at 6:30 am. Thank God for the glass sliders we put in on the lanai.....cuts the noise and dust out dramatically.

hotrodgirl

Sorry about the dust, Bob, but most of us on Amherst should be completed soon. However, my neighbors begin their build about the time I close! Guess I will have that for a couple of months, but we are all in the same boat and have created our own dust in the process! Soon the building will be mostly complete and life will good! I know those who build first are having to deal with more, and I will likely be in the thick of it as well. But we all anticipated the construction for some time. The interior lots have a year to begin their builds if they so wish! So all in good time! I think we all knew what we were getting into and the big gain here is all the awesome new neighbors and friends we will have the opportunity to know! Lots of discoveries to be made together as well! :beer3: So perhaps you can help us with dealing with the dust? I am sure by this time you have some good insight!

The dust is part of the fun, it indicates growth and the coming of new friends.

Take a look at 215 for fast construction they built a zillion patio villas in few months along with 100 other cottage & designers.

I love it, I guess I'll hose off the dust that the rain don't wash away, no big deal.

I don't think any lots R going to be released for buyers to build their own homes.

All these sites are spec pre-builts U will see a few a week added and then tun up as sold, but it is a house that appears sold not a lot.

If you look at 215, the unmapped are all specs. They show the lots in 210 as white, that means they are building what they want.

If you want a lot look don't look at 210, U will see another unit open soon but perhaps not, they may want to stop custom builds.

We were concerned about the dust aspect of all the building work, so we went to see the Dr to see if it could be a health problem and you will all be pleased to hear that in his professional opinion, as long as we are consuming copious quanities of alcoholic beverage (and he mentioned Corona by name) then there is absolutely nothing to worry about and he went on to say that we must remember that every dust cloud is another guest to our party and another invite to someone else's party in the future.
We were so impressed by his down to earth diagnosis, that we have recommended him for a humanitairian award to medicine.:spoken:

I was told they are waiting for all the models to be completed before they release the lots. The houses that are sold were spec houses as are the ones that are light green. They are building lots of spec houses in 210 but you really can't tell which lots are under construction from the map, yet. When the lots are released, then the white ones will be under construction.

I don't think U were told correctly.

I was there 6 weeks ago the models were 90% done, so by now they are very done and expect sales team to switch to them on Dec 3rd.

They are selling the current models.

It will stay white until the house is almost done then be bright green or lime, mouse over for details.

No perfect lot yet. I don't think "The Villages" realizes how much confusion and anxiety they have created for a whole bunch of people who want to live in 210. Whiting out every lot and doing nothing but spec houses? Where did that come from? I understand the effeciency of taking a whole street and have one builder go in a bang out a string of houses and then sell them, but they have other customers that need to be taken care of also.

We upgraded from a 2 man mountain tent to a 4 person wall tent to be erected in Rusty's back yard. I think we'll have room for mother in law (MIL), Boots the cat, and all of my Protest Signs in that bigger tent.

The next unit in order of application date is 211 in April, then 212 & 225 in June.
224 July, 222 & 229 Sept. No others have been filed yet, they work about 6 months in advance.

It makes sense that they were applied for in the order of their master plan to build.

I think now the ? in not getting a lot taken away from spec plans in 210 but when 211 will be released.

It's 210 or I stay in 206 on my wonderful "little" lot. We design and start building in January so April will do me no good. Besides that, I'm fussy. I want 210 but I want to design not pick from someone else's idea of what they think I might want. I think they forgot there are 2 kinds of "customers" out there and they need to take care of the loyal people who already own and are wanting to up-size. We are their sales and referral department.

I totally agree with A-4!!! I still find it hard to believe that TV is so short sighted that they are going to develop a totally spec section. I'm still holding onto hope that A-4 will get the lot he wants. In the meantime, any mail can be addressed to he and his family at 3037-A Bradshaw Lane. We've got plenty of room for the tent and the MIL can have my office with the attached bath! I've gotta take care of my buddy!!!

Richard1366

I find it hard to believe that 210 will be all spec homes. Creating a bare lot with all of the underground utilities in place is a fairly inexpensive process, but when you decide to develop a lot and build a ready to move in house on it, the carrying expense is astronomical, multiply this by the number of lots in 210 and you are talking mega-bucks. I would guess that they are keeping these lots "unavailable" until some of the available lots in other sections are sold.

jimbo2012
11-15-2012, 12:09 PM
Not hard to believe at all what makes you think the Morse's don't have those mega bucks?

If you had a zillion dollars in regular investments vs spec homes where do think the better ROI would be.

A few years ago there were no custom builds so it is reasonable to assume that are doing that.

They can build these houses at lower cost just knocking them out like a cookie cutter,

Also, 2999-A Amherst Way is available but the food's not as good there as I heard it is at 3037-A Bradshaw...

We are on our way! :a040: After a very long, sad, and frustrating few weeks thanks to "Sandy", we are flying down tomorrow morning to start our design/build process! Knowing that this date was planned has really kept us going these past few weeks. At times, we thought that rational minds would ask for a postponement in the design, but, then again, we realized that life is way too short - we need to move forward.

We look forward to starting the next chapter and meeting all our new neighbors in TV!

Thanks for brightening my days with your posts, pics and updates!

Rona, Bill and "Barney"

Hi Rona, Bill and cutiepie - ups, we mean 'Barney',

We have less than 2 weeks to go before we jump on the plane and are really looking forward to meeting all you folks :welcome:

You certainly could do with cheering up after what you have had to suffer with 'Sandy' and we will be doing our very best to be part of the cheering up process team :a040::a040::a040:

Could it be the Designer series is going the way of the Villas and Cottages? What you see is what you buy? I sent rep an e.mail this am asking what is going on with the release, no news yet! We were interested in seeing some of the lots on Bluebeard Ct but think we are sticking with Hackberry and just get it done and down there! Of course, still praying for a buyer here , but... life is to short, but I still drink some cheap wines!!!

My husband, Jay, and I have waited almost 4 yrs to finally sell our home in IL and we will be moving to the Village of Charlotte in 2 weeks. Can't wait.

Now we are getting to the last parts of the closing and they are asking if we want hurricane and title insurance. Anyone have any input about this?

Thank you so much, :o) Judy

Thank you !! It's nice to know we have options on who's yard we can pitch our tent in. The tent does have a Lanai so it will come down to whoever has a west facing orientation.:coolsmiley: As for the food, we'll probably just rip up the turf, dig a hole in the sand, and do our normal "Whole Pig Roast" thing. If you bring the Corona, I'll give you a hind quarter.:welcome:

Speaking of "Pork on the end of your Fork", have you all been to Oakwood Smokehouse and Grill over on 27/441 for their ribs. OMG GOOD . . . and you don't have to dig them out of a hole in your neighbors lawn.

You guys are just too funny! Yep-gonna love my neighborhood!
Don't despair A-4:shocked: you can pitch your tent at Rusty's and cook at my place. I have that nice outdoor kitchen just waiting for you:ho: course, you may have to cook for me as well... The grill is not particularly my domain. But I'll have Corona at the ready! And you can bathe in the pool-sans soap of course.
I do feel your frustration however regarding 210. Perhaps the powers that be could contact Ms Parr? Is that the right name? Can't recall. Someone should have an answer somewhere. Well, they do, but they're just not saying. I did look at the map today and there are some nice sized lots in 214 and 215. Did you check those out? I hope you find some satisfaction soon. It's been a rough wait.

Hi Andy, Wendy & Millie! You guys have come such a long way. The interior is painted and the trim carpenters were finishing up the trim late this afternoon. Your floor tile is complete and they're working on the tile in the bath off of the lanai. You also have kitchen cabinets. The light wasn't so good so they appear darker than in real life. You're looking good here!

A4, even though we are not Gilly's. We hope you get the lot you want in 210. We are also on the perimeter of a cul-de-sac and love it. My fingers are crossed for you. I would write to Jennifer Parr as well, you will get a call back from her very timely, we did when we had an issue before we began to build. FYI, after we put deposit on lot then found out later we could not push our sideways, only front and back. However, we are very pleased, Rich got a longer garage and we have great lanai for entertaining. Good Luck. Also, if you need a change in venue from the tent at Rusty's we have room too in Sanibel. We too like Oakwood for Bar-b-Que.

Jimbo, didn't realize you are now or will be in a motorhome. We RV'd for 20 years when our kids were small and my husband keeps telling me he will buy another with all the slide outs I want and travel the country or become beach bums. Not in my lifetime, he will have to do that with his 2nd wife. I am not leaving my house in TV.

Carol, your time is getting so close, you sound so excited and deservedly so. Beautiful home.

Calc, your home is just beautiful! Won't be long now.

Billl and Rona, exciting time with your design, I am sure you will enjoy, but if you are like me I stayed up wondering if my choices all matched and it would come together, which it truly did. Dont think the designers will steer you wrong.

Twin, much luck on your travels.

We just cannot believe how our life has changed over the last few weeks.

EVERY morning, before we do anything else, we now turn on the computer to see 'our' thread and see what has happened in the neighbourhood :posting:

Then we do it again last thing at night before going to bed! :posting:

It is absolutely mindblowing how excited and friendly everyone sounds and what a fantastic place it will be to live in, even for part timers like us, with our visa we can only stay for 6 months at a time, then we expect that we will be 6 months in rehab getting over it!:MOJE_whot::MOJE_whot:

Even though we have rented a villa for a month from when we land on the 29th Nov until our closing, we are out today to buy a tent to pitch on the back garden, so that we don't have to waste time driving back to the rented villa from gazing at our new home every day until we move in - plus we might be a bit intoxicated by the excitment (and the Corona) and not safe to be driving.:MOJE_whot::MOJE_whot:

Not a motorhome, a Airstream trailer, the silver bullet, we've been RV'g about 6 years joined a club with 6,000 Airstreamers & go to rally's all over the place.
We really don't like the summer heat in Fl, so come May we'll hit the road for a few months - throw a dart at the map & go, still trying to get to Alaska not in '13 enough going on with this new build maybe in '14.

Not ours but this is the idea

It's really amazing how this forum has brought so many of us together, before we even move in.

But this little group numbers only about 30 of us in these very new units of Gilly Fern and a few others, there are several hundred that are out of the loop that will be our neighbors.

It's ashame they are missing all this camaraderie (and Corona parties).

And I have already offered up the summer kitchen for the tent city peeps! Grill, fridge and sink. What else could you want? Wasn't someone of us putting in an outdoor shower? Otherwise we have the pools! And the rec center! :MOJE_whot: we'll work it out between us so no one suffers. Lord knows we'll have some trouble hiding the Corona truck though. It could stay on Terry and Teryl's lot til they start, but we'll need Rusty there for protection!:1rotfl:
Good luck today A-4 and I hope you get some good news. As I mentioned before and Linda as well, perhaps you can get in touch with Jennifer Parr and pull in a favor? After all, you are a very important peep:BigApplause:

I am keeping fingers and toes crossed that today is a productive day for A-4!

Sales rep called to tell me "NO LOTS RELEASED AT TODAYS SALES MEETING".:(

We're going to PLAN C. We found a "Rest Room" building on the golf course just north of 210 that we think we could squeeze bunk beds into. Should cut down on my nightly walking distance too.

A-4, Calc has a good idea there if the lot is good for you and perhaps they have stretched as well as they sometimes do in spec homes. I know you wanted a larger lot though with a certain orientation. Did your agent have an idea as to when this all might happen? Could you contact Ms Parr? As Jimbo said, he thought perhaps Dec 3rd... Criminey! You just have not had an easy time of things with the sale of your TN home and now this! We'll get you there somehow!

Just no stretches. The orientation is perfect and it even has a small view of the golf course. The thing we like about the design process is when you walk in it's done and exactly the way you want it. When we bought the Cottage, we didn't like the floors, cabinets, or countertops, but it was the floorplan and orientation we wanted. And when we sell the cottage it will look just like the day we bought it. Our rep said that there is talk that within a year EVERYTHING will be spec with no more design. In the mean time, it's almost like "Bait & Switch".

Enough of this _______. LET'S SEE SOME PICTURES :clap2:

I'm glowing, but not from the Radon. For the last 10 years before I retired, every refueling outage I would organize a bunch of managers into the "Humpers and Hookers" team. As soon as the plant would cool down my team would throw 100 pound lead blanket over our shoulder and carry them (Hump) to radioactive hot spots and hang them over the source (Hook) so workers coming in to do work could work with reduced dose. The guys who did the nozzel dams, (Jumpers) were the only ones who took more dose that us Humpers and Hookers. Maybe I shouldn't have told you all this ??? Nuc Power is safe . . . . I promise.

Thanks Hot Rod for the Brighthouse info. That was helpful. I was wondering if you had any suggestions about blinds? Did you use TV or order you own?

I knew I wanted plantation shutters and called for some estimates. In the end, I ordered from Rick at 48HR Blinds, though not the absolute cheapest. However, they work with TV and he was able to get in and measure the windows as soon as they were complete with sills, etc. My front bedroom faces west and I am covering the curved portion at the top as well, so the lead time was greater there. Approx 6-8 weeks. The other windows are no problem regarding time. I got 2" slats for the nook and laundry and bath, verticals for the sliders. All will be ready to install on the 6th with the possible exception of the one BR window. If he cannot deliver and install that particular one on that date, he will put up a temporary window treatment until the other is finished.
Not being able to be onsite myself til closing on the 5th, this is what worked for me. Rick's nephew has been keeping in touch with me and is quite pleasant. So I am hoping all will come together according to plan. Also ordered a whole house surge protector from SECO which comes with several power strips for the inside as well included in the cost. Waiting for estimates as we speak for gutters from 3 companies, and that's it for now! Whew!

Hill's Irrigation & Seamless Gutters (352-245-7462) did the gutters on our cottage. Hip roof so gutters go all the way around the house. Called them at 9:00. He called me back with an estimate at 11:00. He called me back at 1:00 to say they were installed and he'd stop by the next time I was at TV to see if we were satisfied and collect $$$$. Perfect job with a lot of thought put into where to place the downspouts to keep the water away from the foundation. Very nice people and great job.

We also have Brighthouse Paul Muniz 407-504-2580 is the person to call. We pay $122.00 per month for TV, phone and internet. First month was free, no installation costs and what I liked the best, we are locked into this rate for 2 years, but no contract what so ever. Since we are not there full time yet we are able to shut it off one time a year.
Also used Rick from 48 Hour Blinds after market. He actually was able to get into the house prior to closing and installed them on the day of our walk through. Received a lifetime warranty rather than one year going through him. (what ever life time means). Would recommend.
We had our garage painted by Tim Miller and also very happy with that.
The other thing we did was to have our own ceiling fans installed after market. They were all wired and ready for install. For the money they gave us, we probably didn't save any money but I was able to purchase the various color fans I wanted for each room and they do have lights, rather than all white fans without lights.
We also had gutters installed but I would have to get the name from Rich. I liked that he matched the color of the house on the down spouts so it blends in nicely rather than white. If you want his name and number, let me know.

With both options we still have room for a 2' stretch to side (den/bed 2/living/lanai)... What do you think Gillies? Begonia right?

I thought I looked at that before with curve in the lot correct?

Leave the garage, waste of $$, it's plenty big.
do the den 2', the rest in the rear you can absolutely use a bigger lanai, mbd is pleanty big also.

I wouldn't stretch either side 2', the way I would go is add 2' straight up the middle, sketch that and take a look

Saxprof: What are you building?!? I think the general consensus on TOTV is that you can never have too much garage or too much lanai. And those don't seem to be too expensive. Kitchen stretches seem to be the most expensive because of cabinetry issues, but again, without knowing what model you're looking at, it's hard to say. I'm all for stretching the lanai...should you ever consider enclosing it, you're adding lots of living area to your house. Just my opinion. Welcome to Gilchrist! What section/lot?

We have a two car with golf cart. I would really have liked that three car. I don't think you can have a big enough garage. If nothing else, it affords you great storage.

I used Gator Blinds and was extremely pleased. Rick is good but he is sometimes hard to get a hold of or gets so busy he can't make it...which was my experienced.

We have had Brighthouse since end June and have nothing bad to say. $120 for the three services.

Tim The Toolman did our attic stairs. I wasn't totally happy. He arrived right on time but the paint job on the door was really marginal and the wood he used was crap. He had to return to redo the door and we ended up on the bottom of his list.

I have a card somewhere with the name of the guy who did our garage floor. Did a great job and was definitely the least expensive of all those who gave estimates. If someone is interested, I will hunt through my cards and get the name and number.

Closets. We didn't have TV even put in the wire because we knew we were doing built ins. I absolutely recommend NOT using Closets by Design out of Orlando. Long story but DON'T. There are plenty of other companies. I will say the expensive of doing built ins was worth it. We gained a lot more storage.

Floors: East Coast did a great job. Love Darrell the installer. I actually wanted something that they didn't have and they hunted it down.

Backsplashes and any tile work..Amazing work. William Parker (Billy). search him on this site. A bit of a character but he isn't happy until it is perfect.

Working with Tri County Landscaping after market and so far I am very happy with their efforts. Scott actually has now gotten a program so he can take a photo of your house and then plug in plants and bed lines so you can see what it will look like after. His prices seemed less to me than some of the others.

If you need a summer kitchen done, pm me. Too many pieces to go into here.

Granite: Granite Solutions in Leesberg. I checked six granite yards and it was absolutely the best price and great quality.

I'm going to disagree with all biggest U can on a garage, in my current home 20+ years I have a two car about 20x20, the past few weeks we've been packing and moving out.

Can't believe the crap I haven't seen in years getting thrown out or given away.

The bigger they R the more junk they collect.

If you look at the cost on construction, taxes maintenance on those extra sq feet, it comes out a lot better to rent a small storage facility space nearby for $50 a month.

The other part is to utilize good wall storage cabinets floor to ceiling on the perimeter walls and if needed shelving overhead.

Of course there is the attic for some items.

So I'm taking my stretch space on the rooms and lanai.

Just my .02 cents on the issue as a DIY I use the garage more than most for projects.

Just looked up the tile guy Shcisamax recommended. William Parker at
352-347-0954. He had lots of accolades from plenty of people;)
Saxprof- I vote for living space stretches, including the lanai. Unless you have just tons of stuff to store. Will you have a 2 car plus GC? I should think that would be enough, especially if you can use attic space for things that won't mind the heat. I stretched the lanai, the kitchen side and out the back. All 3 areas got an additional 2 feet, but the nook got 4 because it's a corner... LOVE the added space in the kitchen. Living space was accommodated with 2 on the back side as well as the MB which is now cavernous...Can't ever have too much space on the lanai... We are all undoubtably confusing you more at this point. Just have to decide which is of the most importance to you!

shcisamax
11-17-2012, 06:31 PM
The key is really what is the MOST important to YOU. Everyone lives differently. Having paid 11 years of storage while out of the country, returning to find how insignificant everything really was, I never want to pay storage again.
Although I think if it meant sacrificing living space, I would just get rid of the "stuff".

I totally agree with Hotrod! We did go with Brighthouse and Paul Munoz was our rep. I initially contacted him via TOTV and he was prompt to get back to me in person. He gave me a good deal on the install and I pay $128.00 per month for HDTV, internet and unlimited CONUS phone calls. I also only got an expanded box for the living room and we get something like 79 channels in the other rooms which is fine for me. I didn't get any expanded packages (HBO, SHO, FLIX, sports, etc) because I just don't use them. I did get the DVR package so we can record the programs we miss. They also have programs on demand for most networks. I'm very satisfied with them and would do it all over again!!

Jimbo, A-4, et al... We can see that we picked the best of best, as Gillyland looks to be THE happening TV village! So interesting and exciting to read all your posts...We do have a design question... We are talking options with our agent: Split the stretches... 2' garage to front/3' den to from AND 2' lanai to rear ORRRRR put ALL the stretches in the back! 4'4" to lanai AND 4'4" to master to rear?? With both options we still have room for a 2' stretch to side (den/bed 2/living/lanai)... What do you think Gillies? Put the space into the garage and den OR give the space over to our Gillie friends to PARTY! What say you Gillies?

Well, IMHO this is an easy decision...I would vote for giving it over to your loving neighbors to party. :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

Seriously though, I would follow Hotrod's example and stretch anywhere and everywhere you can insofar as your budget allows. I stretched the lanai 2' initially and wish I had done another 2' just for the room. Personally I am satisfied with the size of the MBR so I'm not sure about the back. I would definitely stretch the garage if you have a large vehicle. We have a Ford Expedition and it barely fits into the garage. But, I still vote for the party space!!!

Hi Gal & Guys!! Work continues on Coopers place! :pepper2: They've finished the tile work around your (or A-4's) summer kitchen and it looks wonderful! You're getting very close to carpet I would estimate and after that it won't be long till I'll be locked out of yet another home!! :cus:

I saw your Mom & Dad this evening and they told me that congrats are in order so..."CONGRATS!!!!"

The tile in the guest bath also looks wonderful!!!

Yes! We got an offer on our house here in Virginia...it was VERY scary to contract our house in TV without having sold our house in Virginia...but the settlement date here in VA is just 5 days after our settlement in TV. We will rent something in VA until the school year is over. Didn't quite get the $$ we wanted and could have probably done better if we pulled it off the market and re-listed it in the spring...but I just needed it to be SOLD so I could focus on becoming a GilBilly.

So it looks like we'll be adding another trip to Gilchrist MLK weekend in mid-January to finally take a look at our finished house (Ed might drive a truck with some of our stuff--I will fly because it's too hard for me to take time away from my AP Calc kids). Then we'll be back the last week in March during my spring break. And finally we should be permanent in June/July.

IF he comes to our parties???? I always thought that was a given...:pepper2:. I do, however, think you guys are thinking too small with pool lighting and doggie walks. I think you should find some way to hook him up to the water supply and heat the pools. Talk about a cost savings and being a value to the neighborhood!!!

Doggie walks? Oh this would be great if we could start a doggie walk group. My aussie is starving for companionship.

Honestly, this is a great time to sell. So much more is on in the spring so be happy you sold it now. You never know what the economic climate will be in the spring and what your competition would be. Congratulations!
BTW: Gilbilly :)

I'm in! Gracie got out of the house a few weeks ago when her grandmother wasn't looking and I caught her on Mockingbird. She had to stop & go potty or I would probably still be chasing her!!! Doggie walks sound good to me. Gracie loves other dogs!!!

I am totally remiss in not mentioning this little Gilly sub-group...lol. Calc's father being the clever fellow he is printed up a village crest for those of us from south of the mason-dixon line. He found a font that really looks like an official crest that says "GillBillies" with a picture below of a grizzled mountain man hold a jug of fine homemade "XXX" and a sack of flower in the other hand. I can't find it to take a pic of it so if Calc can get me a file I'll post it on the site. Calc's dad thought it would be funny for people like A-4 and myself who are a little bit country. :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

OMG! Rusty, thanks again for posting pics! Even though I can't get any now, I am SO elated to see everyone else's progress. It may as well be mine. Wendy, I am just loving your choices, and Calc, love the tile for the summer kitchen. It is so interesting to see how differently we have all done out homes! And Twin has finished walls!!! Hooray! When I first saw the neighborhood there were just 3 homes. WV-bet that has certainly changed!!
Finally I get to say "see you soon" eighteen days to close! Not that I am counting or anythig...:2excited:

Wow! Another CONGTATS from me, Calc! How awesome is it that you have sold your home in VA? :2excited: for you! Seems you have quite a lot of packing to do in the very near future! Glad you are coming back down and I look forward to meeting you:beer3: it's going to be a mighty fine winter in Gillyland! We'll be waiting for you!:pepper2:

Schisa! We have a bunch of doggies I think! I have 2 myself! One of my friends fosters Aussie's and has 5 at home now. Yikes! That is one busy house. I also have a friend staying with me for much of the winter and she is bringing her "Buddy". Then we have Gracie, Millie, Cooper, and more I am certain! Lots of opportunity there!
