We just had a nice visit from Bill & Sandy McClintock who arrived at our door carrying two bronze shower rods. For some reason we (Janice & I) were accused of committing some nefarious deed regarding said rods???? :ohdear:

I told Bill that I could honestly say that I had nothing to do with the items! I also said that he should go back a few pages in TOTV for more info regarding same!

How can we get tickets to the future Gillybrations at Bradenton Rec Center. It seems that the next one is sold out but we were not informed or offered any tickets, so we don't want to miss out on future ones...thanks.

There's probably 600+ homes with 1200 + people in Gilchrist. How do you fit even a third of those people in a facility where the Fire Marshall says it won't handle more than 100 ?? You don't.

So you never answered my question about whether you are keeping the spreadsheet / neighborhood listing for unit 214 ??

I was under the impression that said events were maybe just for 209/210, but I could be mistaken. Not sure we could even fit that many people in. I don't think there's a venue anywhere in TV that could begin to hold all the partiers in all of Greater Gilchrist. It's unfortunate, but it may be a reality.

A-4, you seem upset for some reason for me asking about the tickets. We were on the original spreadsheet you started, then suddenly it got stopped, restarted, then split. I declined originally to do the 214 spreadsheet because we were not even living here at the time and I am not totally proficient at excel. But I will give it a try if you give me the info you or someone has for 214. I will do it because it seems our subdivision has become lost in the shuffle or activities. Unfortunately, you still have not answered my question either that I have asked twice...how do we get tickets in the future, or better yet how are the tickets being given out....do certain neighborhoods or people get priority and the rest are out of luck. Just wondering as I am sure everyone else, but believe me I do not want to cause any trouble. But there must be a fair way to handle this because Bradenton is for a lot more people than two or three areas, don't you agree.

Everyone was invited to the last party and are community members of Bradenton Rec Center. I understand that 209 and 210 have gotten more exclusive with their private parties, but the first Bradenton Gilchrist Pot luck was for everyone. All I am trying to find out now is how they are distributing tickets and will everyone get a fair shot at going to the big Bradenton get togethers, at least on some occasions. That would be the only fair way IMHO. Maybe the Mayor can add some comment to these questions.

I don't understand since you began addressing the issues and questioning me about it. I don't mind a PM, but I do think it needs to be explained and addressed here because it affects everyone interested in attending events and it is a mystery as of now what is going on. I will await your P.M., but I feel like I am being berated for some reason unknown when Bruce and I are just interested in being involved in Gilchrist activities. I hope you or the Mayor will announce on TOTV the plans because I have been asked about it from others also. Thanks for your hoped for understanding and consideration.

Hi Everyone! I heard through the grapevine that there was a new business in town and thought that I would check it out with some of the neighbors. We met at the intersection of Amherst & Bradshaw at 5:00 on Sunday afternoon to see what we could see. :gc:

When we arrived at the appointed location on Hillsborough Drive, to what should our wondering eyes should appear but a sign on Jimbo's back yard noting that he had opened a new business. We all lined up to pay the posted entry fee which was being collected by TwinSpin only to find out that the business wasn't open due to Jimbo being out of town. :cus:

But, we thought that we'd go ahead and take pictures just for the heck of it...y'all know how us Gilly's are when it comes to pics. So, here they are. We're hoping that Jimbo can get the place open when he gets back!!! :pepper2:

In addition to the funds I put in the treasury from the Goofy Golf (thanks TwinSpin for collecting) I made a pocket full of money from the valet parking of all the golf carts.

Does anyone know who the dude was in the car who wanted to know if we took American Express for the Goofy Golf ??

Very seldom do I comment on threads, but there seems to be some misunderstandings about the potluck, as I see it. The organizer(s) who I have not met, had the e- mail announcement go to those in 209 and 210. Someone on that list posted it for all Gilchrist on this thread and at the mail center. So the original intent was 209/210 not all Gilchrist, it was not a Gillybration. The next pot luck, as advertised in the Rec News on Thursday is for Gilchrist East or 209 & 210. I assuming the purpose of the tickets is to make sure we can accommodate based on occupancy regulations.
This may be incorrect, but based on the original e-mail that was my understanding.

Nino . . . . Basically you are right. Let me see if I can clear things up since I don't think the Pot Luck Organizers use TOTV. When the first PL was set up the thinking was that not that many people would show up and they could easily fit everyone into Bradenton. There were notices put in the Rec News and at the Gilchrist Mailbox. Then someone who is not even on the 209/210 spreadsheet posted on this thread that there was a PL for all of Gilchrist. Well we all know what happened that night. So for the next PL the organizers sent an email to everyone on the 209/210 spreadsheet and tickets were given out until they were all gone. A lot of people in 209/210 didn't get tickets. Like I have told several people, Gilchrist is to big to invite everyone to an indoor event where there's a limit on how many bodies they will let in. We're still doing the GillyBrations at EP and everyone in Gilchrist is invited. We're looking at doing something in the future at a polo match or on the polo grounds where everyone can participate.

Right guys we need to nip a few things in the bud :024:

Don't even joke about a K & Q, we are in enough trouble with Her Majesty for the Knighting already and we are really close to being thrown in the Tower of London :sing:

Our only concern about Jimbo's new business is that there is no way that he would be such a cheapskate, he will be charging much more than $10 :jester:

But we definitely think that Jimbo is on to something when he says that the high temperatures must be affecting behaviour :jester: although we think that 10 days house arrest is a bit steep :crap2:

It is really reassuring that pranks and idiots are still the order of the day and that we will fit right back in when we get back :jester::jester:

Andy and Wendy,

So glad you're going to do the pool thing. :2excited: We have absolutely no regrets. Besides, now that T & T are in the midst of construction, it was only a matter of time before you realized you were nearly the only one on our side of Amherst without one. Pressure's on. Besides, we need to have a "Progressive Pool Party" along our side of the street and would hate to find ourselves standing in your backyard with no pool to enjoy.

MamaDerby is correct. We used All Seasons Pools. You got to see most of the construction and finished work. We felt that we got a lot for the money spent. We also called T & D and expect that their price for something comparable would have been about 10 - 15% higher. They also do a great job, but we ecided not to use them because it would have meant a three or four month delay in getting started (and finished). We would have hated NOT having the pool this summer, for sure.

Thought of you when we played Palmer Legends this evening. You're missing some of the best golfing options :gc: right now. We LOVE it and miss having you here to play with. Give Millie a little pat for us and Hurry Home.

As for A-4's previous post about bringing my "A" game to twilight golf last night....I left it at home. The results were one or two good drives, a few good fairway shots and the rest was complete rubbish. :cus:

For some reason, my play got better around the 3rd tee on Destin when we ran into the Depudie Mayor and his beautiful bride! They were gracious enough to have a cooler of very cold beer which served to revive my skills for about 1 1/2 additional holes. :beer3: Pictures are attached.

What a great neighborhood we have. As you can see from previous posts, we (A-4, The Old Bishop, Fred Flintstone & myself) weren't sure what to expect when we got to DM BS's (Depudie Mayor Bunny Slippers) home but we were not disappointed. :highfive: The course ambassador evidently like our foursome and I was forced to put my golf glove over the Corona bottle to keep from being thrown off the course! The hospitality of DM BS and his beautiful bride will not go unrewarded.

As some of you might know, our weekly foursome has instituted the "Birdie Club" that I think I've previously described. We hadn't had any $1 collections for a birdie (very unlikely that we will ever have one from me) but we did have two on Bonifay last evening. The venerable Old Bishop had a birdie on Destin and our ever loving A-4 had a birdie on Pensacola both of which cost the other three players $1 each. :bigbow: After the round we adjourned to the Bonifay Clubhouse for some much needed victuals & cold refreshment. A-4 is such a gracious winner. Fred & I had to endure a golf ball rolling down the bar in our direction followed by the comment "Anyone want to see my birdie ball?" :$::$:

Anyway, we had a great time and I will probably play with those two again even if I have to take out a second mortgage to pay my golf debts!!! :22yikes:

In honor of the birth of HRH The Prince of Cambridge and in order to show the support of the Colonials to our "royal couple", the Office of the Mayor has decided to initiate a "Name the Royal Baby Contest". :BigApplause: Sir John of Gilchrist has generously offered to put up $10 prize award to the winner.

I originally tried to get Sir John to have NAPIT fund an all expense paid trip to London and an entry ticket for the baby's christening but he deferred since he and the Fair Lady are now officially retired from the company and no longer have control of the financial purse strings! :(

The contest is simple. I have started a spreadsheet with my entry and those of Sir John & Lady Wendy. Anyone else who desires to enter need only send me a PM with their suggestion which will be entered into the contest. The winner will be judged by Depudie Mayor BS and determined by who comes closest to the name chosen by the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge when that time arrives! :highfive:

Sir John will (hopefully) be forthcoming with the $10 when he and the Fair Lady return to their manor on Amherst Way in September.

Don't worry the $10 will be forthcoming for the nearest attempt and just to make it really interesting, if the winner gets the name exactly right the prize money will increase to either $20 or £10, with the winner having the choice :BigApplause:

As near as I can pinpoint, at approximately 4:30pm EST, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced the name of the infant who is third in line for the Throne.

No entrys received after that time were entered into the contest...although none were received during that time frame! :1rotfl:

The name of the new Prince of Cambridge is George Alexander Louis Windsor!! :BigApplause:

In order to be completely fair, I have forwarded the list of names to DM BS for final review and the naming of the winner.

The entrys were:

1. Philip Charles Arthur John (Rusty)
2. Philip Michael Charles William (Andy & Wendy)
3. Michael Charles Philip William (Andy & Wendy)
4. James Michael (Mary Halloran)
5. Gilly Bubba Christ of Upper Gilchrist (do I even need to mention a name???)
6. James William Spencer (Fred & Wilma)
7. Earl George Spencer Windsor (Terry Bishop)

And the WINNER is...
I, Depudie Mayor Bunny Slippers, using complex Euclidean geometry have finally deduced the winner of the name the royal baby contest from the 7 entrants. Entrants 1 - 6 guessed zero of the names correctly, while entrant 7, amazingly, guessed 2 of the 4 names correctly. Thus, officially, the winner is entrant 7--congratulations, Terry! However, unofficially, I would have given it to entrant 5 just becuz.

Things are about the same. She's doing well and still on the heparin IV in the hospital to break up the clot in her right lung. I think they're going to be switching her to oral coumadin in the next day or so to get that up to therapeutive levels so she can be released. I don't know how long she will be in the hospital.

Got to the hospital at about 11:00am and found her trying to change her bed. She'd had a nose bleed and got the blanket dirty. Ordered her to bed and she kept trying to change the bed...<sigh>.

Finally got her into bed and got her to read Elsie's cards which she loved and has sitting on the window sill where she can see them (thanks, Elsie)!

I checked her coumadin level with the nurse and it's up to 1.8 (therapeutic is 2-3) so we're hopeful it will be up in the a.m. and we can get her home. She's bored to death in the hospital and I'm worn out...lol.

After consulting with Hizonor The Mayor :girlneener:, (and checking with the Restaurant Manager at Bonifay) the GILLYBRATION will be held at Bonifay, Tuesday 8/20/13 at around 7:00 on the breezeway. With the indoor AND outdoor bars it will probably even be easier to get your drinks at Bonifay. :wine: :beer3: Make sure you support our local country clubs by eating dinner there before our gathering. :icon_hungry:

So if I told you your Mum came by my house twice today to see our Mum and both times "THREW YOU UNDER THE BUS" as the culprit, what would be your reaction to that? Well, we enjoyed our signage. We hope you enjoy yours. (P.S. tell your Mum that wasn't lightening she was looking at out the front window a little while ago)

I have thoroughly questioned said senior citizen and she assures me that you were not home when she visited the second said senior citizen so you could not have, therefore, subjected her to any questioning. I however have used a high wattage compact flourescent light, duck tape and a piece of mining cable (left over from my State Police days) to extract the truth from said senior citizen. She knows nothing about the aforementioned "Midnight Maneuvers". Me thinks that you are throwing out a red herring to deflect suspicion from the true guilty party!

That thumping sound in the neighborhood this morning must have been the bus running over your "Honorable" butt.
The Treasury is EMPTY.
To pay for all that furniture you want for your new office you should consider "SUB-LETTING" the basement . . . . . maybe to the person or persons that assisted you in your midnight signage maneuvers.

During half time of the West Virginia and William & Mary game today, the Water Boarding Committee will be paying you a visit. We'll get the truth out of the bunch of you. (P.S. . . . . is it true that only Mary is playing today because they are saving William for the Big Boys ??)

BREAKING NEWS! :MOJE_whot:
A Freedom of Information request was sent to the FBI, NEA, and IRS for any and all graphical proof that may be available from their current fleet of drones. I have been provided with the results, BUT, refused to release to the public for fear of having to request asylum with Mr Putin in his airport. Hizz honour  Da Mayor has granted me with full and complete immunity from any and all accusations associated with the defilement of the Gilchrist Mayor's Office.
Below is the first picture obtained from the nearest drone.

There not being nearly enough definition, after all the drone was over Disney at the time, a second request was made to see if they could better define the resolution and finally see who the culprits were.
Here is the result.... PS: the photographer as previously explained has been held immune.

Janice and I would like to thank all of our friends who have been so kind and supportive during her mother's recent illness and passing. Your well wishes and prayers were effective and much appreciated. We had the memorial service today which was very nice and absent of any unneeded drama.

The 1st Baptist Church of Varney is a little country church with not much in the way of resources so the contributions of all our friends will be much appreciated and well used.

Thank you all so much.

I'm returning to paradise tomorrow evening if the 'Ole Bishop doesn't forget to pick me up in Sanford...:D Janice will return on Thursday.

Varney, WV? I know where Varney is located. I'm from that corner of neighboring Virginia. If you go across Bartley Store Bottom, follow the Dismal River Road on down to Chicken Ridge and Bearwallow; you'll be near my neck of the woods in Virginia. It is a small world. May God bless your family in their time of sorrow and give your wife and all your loved ones peace.

Bring back any memories?
Someone asked the other day, 'What was your favourite 'fast food' when you were growing up?'
'We didn't have fast food when I was growing up,' I informed him.
'All the food was slow.'
'C'mon, seriously.. Where did you eat?'
'It was a place called 'home,'' I explained. !
'Mum cooked every day and when Dad got home from work, we sat down together at the dining room table, and if I didn't like what she put on my plate, I was allowed to sit there until I did like it.'

By this time, the lad was laughing so hard I was afraid he was going to suffer serious internal damage, so I didn't tell him the part about how I had to have permission to leave the table.

But here are some other things I would have told him about my childhood if I'd figured his system could have handled it:

Some parents NEVER owned their own house, wore jeans, set foot on a golf course, travelled out of the country or had a credit card.

My parents never drove me to school. I had a bicycle that weighed probably 50 pounds, and only had one speed (slow).

We didn't have a television in our house until I was 10.
It was, of course, black and white, and the station went off the air at 10 pm, after playing the national anthem and epilogue; it came back on the air at about 6 a.m. and there was usually a locally produced news and farm show on, featuring local people...

Pizzas were not delivered to our home... But milk was.

All newspapers were delivered by boys and all boys delivered newspapers --My brother delivered a newspaper, seven days a week. He had to get up at 6AM every morning.

Film stars kissed with their mouths shut. At least, they did in the films. There were no movie ratings because all movies were responsibly produced for everyone to enjoy viewing, without profanity or violence or almost anything offensive.

If you grew up in a generation before there was fast food, you may want to share some of these memories with your children or grandchildren. Just don't blame me if they bust a gut laughing.
Growing up isn't what it used to be, is it?

MEMORIES from a friend:
My Dad is cleaning out my grandmother's house (she died in December) and he brought me an old Lemonade bottle. In the bottle top was a stopper with a bunch of holes in it.. I knew immediately what it was, but my daughter had no idea. She thought they had tried to make it a salt shaker or something. I knew it as the bottle that sat on the end of the ironing board to 'sprinkle' clothes with because we didn't have steam irons. Man, I am old.

How many do you remember?
Headlight dip-switches on the floor of the car.
Ignition switches on the dashboard.
Trouser leg clips for bicycles without chain guards.
Soldering irons you heated on a gas burner.
Using hand signals for cars without turn indicators.

If you remembered 0-3 = You’re still young
If you remembered 3-6 = You are getting older
If you remembered 7-10 = Don't tell your age
If you remembered 11-14 = You're positively ancient!

I must be 'positively ancient' but those memories are some of the best parts of my life.

Don't forget to pass this along!!
Especially to all your really OLD friends....I just did!!!!!!!!!

Nothing has been submitted to the Administration Department yet Your Honour. :posting:

Once it has, it will be duly noted and a report submitted on this thread. :posting:

Do we need to call for the PERCS and the FLAPS to get involved?

As much as I hate to do it, I feel that PERCS & FLAPS has to be involved in the aggregious behavior involving a senior citizen.

As I understand it, Mike and Fred Flintstone were minding their own business proceeding through a tunnel in Mikes golf car. Upon entering the tunnel, A-4 who was following Mike in another golf car with The Old Bishop, began behavior which has become common for him and began honking the horn (it's a southern thing). The aforementioned senior citizen in front of Mike took offense at said horn honking and raised a clinched fist at Mike who was, of course, totally innocent of any offense. As the trio entered yet another tunnel, A-4 again started honking his horn and the senior citizen locked up her brakes in the tunnel and exited the golf car intent on giving Mike a piece of whatever remained of her mind. :swear: Mike thereupon began yelling "It wasn't me...it was him!" and started pointing at poor, unfortunate A-4. Way to give up a buddy, Mike! :a20: Fortunately, the situation was defused before A-4 and The Old Bishop had to render aide to A-4 and Fred.

At least that's how I heard that it came down  The Village administration is always open to another side of the story from any involved participant in an attempt to paint a clear and concise picture of what happened!

I think the Old Bishop mentioned that there may have been cause for the second honking of the horn. There was more than a raised fist . . . . there may have been a gesture involved . . . . And besides, carting the villages recommends tooting your horn to make others entering the tunnel aware of your presence. Okay . . . . . I may have leaned on the horn a little longer than necessary. EXCUSE ME !!!

We think a picture of the Speedo's would be a truly frightening way to launch the 500th page on this thread. :MOJE_whot:

What do you and the Deputy Mayor think Your Honour, would it be too much for our fair ladies? :ho:

When he is in his golf outfit, it's too much for our fair ladies! I shudder at the thought of him in an orange speedo!

Mr. Mayor, since my investigative work is complete and a report has been submitted, can I leave the tunnel now and come home?

Stay in the tunnel. We'll bring you eats and beverages from the Cul De Sac party tonight.

And the Speedo's are black, red, and navy. If the Vols beat Florida tomorrow I'll buy an Orange one.

We've already got a rental residence lined up and can't wait to become official Villagers. We hope to be there by mid-July if the closing on our home goes as planned. If anyone else is going into Gilchrist please stop by and give us a post...

We had a great time at the cul-de-sac party tonight! We hope to have many more at a different cul-de-sac each time! Thanks to Bruce and Glenda for letting us enjoy the shade in their drive and to Kitty for her nice open house! We'll see you at the next one! Stay tuned for when it will be and where!

Hi Joyce! I'm not sure what you mean about using Artisticrete. We haven't had anything like that done. We did put in a small patio off the lanai and we used Brandon for that.
