Hi Guys & Gals!! I've been keeping a dutiful eye on your lot and the progress of your build. You've got rough-in plumbing and work is progressing. You're also formed up for the pour of the concrete slab.

I'll keep you updated as things get more interesting!!!

Enjoy the pics!!!

Hi Hotrod!!! Not to worry m'dear...you are progressing nicely! Still working on the interior and the insulation is going up in the ceiling. There is also a nice pile of sheetrock in the garage waiting to be installed. It may be a tight race in the "Most Obvious Build" contest tomorrow. Should be interesting!

Enjoy the pics!

Hi Calc and CoopersDad!!! You guys must be having a run of luck and I'd recommend that you buy lots of lottery tickets. Once again, you are the daily winners of the "most obvious progress" construction contest!!!! Prizes will be awarded at a future time to be determined solely by the judge (me).

You guys have had a busy day. You have walls!!!!! :a040: The final portions of block went up late yesterday and the workers just quit filling the holes in the top of the block at this very moment (7:30pm). I don't know if the pool has been poured, sorry.

I hope you enjoy the pics!!!

Wow! Oh Wow! Told you that you'd soon catch up to me! Lots of progress coming your way. Love the big window in the front too. Don't remember that from the Ivy model. Did you enlarge? Looking good!!! :eclipsee_gold_cup:

Guess I'd better think about packing up some stuff :beer3: come January or so I think we're going to have one heck of a party!!!

Based on your progress I would say that you are soon going to be in the thick of things. It's going to become increasingly difficult to make a good decision regarding the winner but I due trust the judges discretion...:1rotfl:

Let's see: Happy Hour traditionally starts at 5. Construction crews sometimes finish 6/7/7:30 (as was the case last night--you said so yourself, Rusty). What if the judge partakes of Happy Hour before judging can commence? I guess we could tell if the pictures came out blurry! But my prediction is Junction29 will be the winner by Monday at the latest!

I have to concur, as there will be BIG things happening there... Walls for one! Yep, Wendy and John are on a roll now! You too, as your roof should start! Hey, Lisa, do you think the judge could be bribed with the promise of some Corona?
I know it's a bit early, but just got some closing details from my agent! I had asked for a later closing as I am driving up from my place in Boynton, so tentatively my walk-through is 2 PM and closing at 3:30. Works for me! It's starting to feel real!

So what are the chances that an empty lot for the next 3 months over on Lafayette Street could stand a chance of winning what appears to be a contest with the stacked deck in favor of Gilchrist Corona drinkers? If I ask my agent to go over and 4 wheel it all over the lot, do I get a picture of the wheel tracks and an "Honorable Mention" in the contest?

Nice progress today. The roof and interior insulation was finished and you have drywall done on the ceilings. Everything is looking good!

Very nice!!!

Well, seems like you and CoopersDad got slightly beat out for a triple crown. it was close though!

The pool is poured (may have done it yesterday actually) and the lanai is looking great. The forms for the pool were evidently pulled out today and it looks wonderful. Can you spell "Pool Party"...:1rotfl:

There is also a huge pile of roof trusses in the "yard" that are ready for installation!

Your humble scribe has already thought of that contingency! If you look several posts back you will see that the backup judge accompanies me on each inspection tour (HotRod's MBR pic). The backup judge, Gracie, is immenently qualified to render a non-biased judgment in the event that I am unable to properly function in the role (ie - in my cups). She does very well (except when she's trying to scarf a discarded chicken wing bone)....:1rotfl:

That's great news, Hotrod! Based on our closing experience I would guesstimate that the housewarming party should commence at about 5:00. Hey! That's the beginning of happy hour. What a coincidence?

And shame on you Hotrod. You know that the judge could never be bribed (burp...why yes, I'll have another)!!!

It is with great happiness that I have to announce that the "Most Visible Progress" contest will have to be temporarily suspended during the week of October 14-21 due to the absence of the judge who is going to be attending Biketoberfest in Daytona Beach.

Before anyone starts grumbling or complaining about the contest being suspended while we have a backup judge in place...please remember that Gracie is just a little girl and not allowed to go on walks in the neighborhood without supervision. The contest will resume on Sunday, October 21 when I return from my well earned rest.

I seriously, really hate that I'm going to miss the progress that's going to be made in the next week. Calc will have a roof, Hotrod will have finished walls and Junction 29 will most likely have a slab and walls.

Hang in there guys!!!

Party at 5! Works for me! I have to say that I am really amazed at the amount of progress in our neighborhood and everywhere for that matter! Everything is beginning to feel so real now as opposed to some sort of pipe dream. Now I can see where the lanai, patio and pool will come together which was a bit difficult to envision before. Guess that's why I am not part of the design team! Now there would be a scary thought! Wendy and John should have walls next week, CalcT her roof, and interior walls for me! and a mu h deserved R&R for WV! Just wait til he gets back and we get those pictures! yikes! That should be a surprise! :icon_wink:

What a day this has been. Janice and I had unexpected visits from two soon to be neighbors. First it was Teryl1949 and his spouse who will be just behind us and next door to Hotrod! This surprise was followed up by a visit from Twinspin and her spouse and two friends! This TOTV thing is really paying off. Both couples are as nice as you could want and this just reaffirms my former prediction that this is going to be a rockin' neighborhood! I can't wait until everyone is here!

Our design date is early December and hope to join this party a couple months after that. We are from Medina, via Youngstown, Akron, Springfield, Deleware and Garretsville! And currently have cottage in Tamarind Grove that we try to visit every few months (and we have found a buyer! Things are definitely in motion.....yippee! Can't wait to meet everyone!

Probably the title for the thread "New Villagers in Gilchrist" scares them off!!:22yikes: Only kidding! I originally clicked on the thread because we were checking on lots in Gilchrist, but by the time we could get down to TV, the lots we liked were taken. Luckily for us, a lot opened up in Fernandina while we were there! It's all good -- great neighbors in great neighborhoods ahead for all of us!

Hi Teryl & Terry! I am your neighbor in lot 25 aka Hotrodgirl! Welcome to Gilchrist! But I see you are not new to TV so I may be the one asking you two all sorts of questions! Are you currently in Tamarind Grove? How long have you owned in TV? See, I am starting already! I will close on Dec 5th, just in time for your design team meeting. So you should close in February! Same story for us - bought a Sand Dollar in Tamarind Grove April of 2011, had great neighbors, loved the pool but also realized if we were going to be full time there we wanted a better view and a larger house with 2 car garage and a golf cart garage. So we sold the cottage in July, had our design meeting week before last and are closing on Dec21 on our new home on the golf course on Mockingbird Lane. The lot is staked and the foundation is scheduled to be poured Wednesday. Hope the progress on our house is as fast as some of the photos showing up here.

Hi all, just doing catch-up.

We have been traveling the last couple of days to our home in France to pack it away and put it on the market so have been out of touch.

Fantastic to read this thread again, even a couple of days missing reading it and we start to have withdrawl symptons (No - not for Corona), for TV.

We won't be over in TV until 29th Nov and it is reading TOTV that keeps us going in the meantime.

We will also join the chorus - "Come back Rusty, all is forgiven", his information is critical for survival for those of us so far away.

Do we all think that holidays should be booked with the South 466A Residents Association? in advance, so that we can be mentally prepared to cope with any anxiety that it may cause to fellow residents?

It may be a few days before we are back on line so best wishes to you all and we look forward to talking again soon and even more to meeting you all.

You know, one would think that Mr Gilly would perhaps check in and let us know how he's doing! :doh:So, what do you all think about tne fact that he moves in, hangs out for a couple of weeks, charges us beers for payment in kind, and disappears? Is he trying to tell us something? He gets us all excited with great pics of our builds and reports of progress, then takes off. Is it a conspiracy? Is he really at Biketoberfest? Or is he keeping the whole place to himself? Inquiring minds want to know:confused:

Hi Bob! I look forward to meeting you and your wife this December! So sorry to hear about your tire and I really hope it was not from my build? Whenever Rusty posts pictures at the end of the day I am always amazed at how clean the lot appears. Not a bunch of garbage or building supplies laying around. But I would guess that errant stuff falls in the road and wonder if you would have any recourse with TV? Though I highly doubt that... Anyways, I am on Amherst and look forward to making your acquaintance in just another 6 weeks! Yikes! Moving right along. My poor neighbors Dave and (Michelle?) have construction on both sides. But almost better to get it all done in one fell swoop. Feel free to contact A-4 Skyhawk if you haven't already done so and add your name to the spreadsheet he has started of neighbors south of 466A.

Hello Bob Dickerson! Welcome to this forum thread! I too am building on Amherst...just down the street from HotRod. Our sales agent told us they actually pay someone to drive around the construction sites at night in a special truck that has magnets on the bottom to pick up loose nail/screws and other debris...you must have just gotten one of the errant ones.

My husband, Ed, and I will be closing 12-12-12 but not moving down until next summer. Please contact A-4 to get yourself on the spreadsheet. Until then, I'm going to go check the map to see where Hackberry is!

Well, Hot Rod & Calc, my husband & I just took a ride up to your houses - Calc, the crew was still working on the interior walls the roof is on but not shingled. It looks like they were going to work until dark (another 2 hours, at least) HotRod, we took more pix at your house cause no one was there, the tile on the top edge of the pool is in and the walls are sheetrocked and taped. I'm not sure how much of this you have seen, but we took some more pix for you. I hope I can attach them ...

I'm glad we've got you there on the ground. I was looking at the news paper from Daytona and there was a picture of all the bikers. Hells Angels was there and I swear I saw Rusty wearing their skull and crossbones. :icon_twisted: I hope we haven't lost him to the other side? :cryin2:

Anne and Sal! Can't thank you enough for the pics! That was so kind of you! HotRod: Looking awesome! I can almost smell the drywall from here in Virginia. The one shot that Anne took of your pool shows all that construction down from you! Can't tell if one of those is my house or not...can't remember how many lots separate us!

I told my husband last night that we are certainly fortunate to have such kind neighbors! We feel so lucky!

Anne and Sal! Wow and OMG!!! I don't know how to thank you for these pics! It is wonderful to be able to see all the progress on a nearly day to day basis. CalcT! YOU HAVE A ROOF! I love the 3 part window in front and wish I had thought of that. Differentiates you from the rest of us and let's in lots of light! As much as I adore having a summer kitchen, I now realize it cuts my view just a bit. But one step in the upcoming birdcage and all is forgotten! Calc-you are 7 lots north of me, and am not sure if I see your place or not from the picture. But when all is said and done, we all most likely will be able to see up and down that line. I do know onw thing. It's getting harder and harder to wait! Thank you again Anne and SL for doing this for us! Can't wait to meet all our awesome neighbors!

Tomorrow we head to Florida for our design meeting on the 24th. We are bringing our first load of "stuff" and dropping it off in Ocala. We will stay in Ocala for a couple of weeks. So, if you see a slow moving Avalanche cruising through Gilcrest, don't be alarmed, it's only us dreaming about our new location. Can't wait to see Hot Rod and Calc's house in person. I wonder if there will be a new Harley at WV's place? Time will tell.

And Flintstones (love it) you both have your meeting to look forward to and a build soon after! Here's today's pics - Hot Rod the first 2 are your house - not too much going on - Sal thinks that the front door area is new, but I'm not sure - no one was working there when we were there (4:45pm). Calc has roof shingles !! and I took a picture of the back (as close as I could get because there are LOTS of workers and I wouldn't want to slow them down). I'll check tomorrow if I can - I have to drive Sal to the airport, he's going back to CT to work. Sorry there were not more interesting shots...

Jeepers! and Good Morning everyone. It doesn't pay to be offline for a day. Holy cow! Seems the whole place has changed! CalcT- your place looks like a house now! I love, love, love the wrap around lanai. That was not standard if I recall, so good decision on your part to carry it around. Wish I would have thought of that myself! Though my birdcage will encompass the whole back of the house... Can't wait to see the finished product. Actually can't wait to see the whole neighborhood completed!! FYI- Bonaparte is a kind of darker taupe color andd the Tracing Paper is a cream type of color as you guessed!
Jimbo-the door was one of the hardest decisions for me. I was just about to tell them to put in the very most basic and I would change it out later with aftermarket, but after looking through several neighborhoods I saw the one I ended up with. Kind of Prarie style which I like, being from Frank Lloyd Wright's home area..
Anne and Sal-thanks so much for the pictures! I am still- amazed! Guess they have to let the stucco dry and perhaps work inside now! I did not get builders pics this week:confused: so you guys really helped keep it in check! Can't thank everyone enough for sending pictures my way and I will gladly reciprocate! I chose Gilchrist because I wanted to build new and that neighborhood had a lot that fit my needs.I was looking for something with a view or on a GC where I had a bit more green space. I also knew I wanted room for some stretches. As it turns out, being a brand new area, one of the neighbors posted on here asking for other Gilly's to post back. One thing led to another and some people from Fernandina joined in, then Charlotte and Sanibel. I am so happy with my decision as I feel we have a wonderful group of people both in Gilchrist and the surrounding areas! Turns out we have a lot in common.:beer3:

Hi Everyone - Hotrod - I stopped by Amherst Way yesterday and there was no one at your house, but I think that they put up the side boards (forms ?) for the driveway and front walk - maybe they will pour them on Monday. I stood on the street in fron of you house and because of the way that the street curves towards the left, you can easily see Calc's house - if you are in back I would guess that it is more difficult. There were so many workers at Calc's house (and their trucks) that I couldn't see much. I'll try to stop by later an check. Can't wait to mee you both !!

While we wait for the next round of pictures and building status from our friends on location, let me ask some design experience questions to those who have been through it:
- Do they offer any options on exterior wall or ceiling insulation upgrades?
- What kind of windows are standard (vinyl, wood, alum) and do they offer upgrades to casements & awnings?
- Do they offer upgrades on high effeciency heat pumps?
- Did I read somewhere that you can upgrade to an insulated garage door?
- And will they insulate the lanai and garage ceiling?

Insulation upgrades- I asked, was told it is per spec, but I think it is an option if you push. Not sure of the cost. They use R-30 bat & blown to living area ceiling, thickness info to be posted in home. Also R-5 rigid foam board on living area exterior walls, R-11 bat fiberglass to garage. Also to be posted in home.
The windows are Low-E insulated vinyl. Non-tilt. I asked for tilt but since everything is on one level, I opted out of that extra cost. I have them here and love them, but it should not be problematic to clean. The sills are not marble, but some sort of stone...
Not sure about heat pumps???
Yes to insulated garage door at extra cost
I don't think they insulate the lanai. Nor sure if they will...

Not much help there but maybe someone else will have more answers!

I believe the standard heat pump is single stage, 14 or 15 SEER. For about $2500 you can get a 2 stage heat pump with variable air handler and 16 SEER. For $5500 you can get a 19 SEER.

Is it worth the extra cost to get the more efficient unit? How many months of the year do you need to use it? I have no experience with heating/cooling units as I have never had one in any of the homes I have lived in.

Definately will go with the 2 stage unit. Here in Tennessee we have a lot of experience with heat pumps. The one here where we're selling is a 3 stage and it's driving 3 dampered zones with separate thermostats. If the demand for heat or cooling is minimal the compressor runs on low speed and as the demand goes up, so does the speed on the compressor and the air handling unit. If you're super insulated it rarely goes to the 3rd stage. The slower the compressor runs the less MW it uses and the saving can be significant. I think the pay back here in TN was 3.5 years. Not sure what FL will be. One other benefit of a staged system is when it's running in low the air coming out of the vents is about half velocity so it's less drafty.
Thanks for the info.:coolsmiley:

New homes I saw 2 weeks ago used seers of 15.2, that's pretty good.

To say U need higher efficiency must be calculated as to it's ROI (returned on investment) and cost of electric.

So how many years would $2500 or $5500 take to recoup.

Most cost here that have been posted are $90-$150 a month some a bit over $200

I would at the same time look into solar PV panels and get a 30% rebate from the Feds, then compare all those numbers.

My opinion off the top.....forget all those options, too many years.

Anyone do the real math?

Or can you get that back on resale is another point, bet you could on solar.

Solar for a pool or spa is an absolute winner.

The un-insulated garage door in our cottage sounds like a freight train :boom: when it goes up and down. I think on the insulated doors it's a double steel wall with foam insulation pumped in. They are CONSIDERABLY quieter. Don't know if you get the same effect with the add on insulation kit.

There are many ways to do it, the doors from Copay come in many different R values not sure what they offer for $400.

You can retro-fit a higher R value, the kits are ok but you can do better with panels from HD.

I also use something like this on my RV it is great

After due consideration, Gracie and I have decided that there can be no clear winner of the Most Obvious Progress contest so Gracie decided that there are three winners for the past week.

The winners are (in no particular order) CalcTeacher, Junction29 & Hotrodgirl!

So, without further adeau (however ya spell it), the winners pics are attached in three separate posts!

The first is the lanai/pool/summer kitchen; second is the kitchen/diningroom; third is the MRB leading into the bath; fourth is the spare bedroom closets and lastly is the front BR going into the on-suite bath. Last week my cousin and I took a trip to Kennedy Space Center. Really neat place but we also found a super nice aviation museum just outside of KSC that is run by a private group. While looking around the center I just happened to come upon a very nice specimen of an A-4 Skyhawk that was flow by a member of the Blue Angels. I decided to take some pics for A-4 and I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank him from the bottom of my heart for his service and sacrifices to our country!!

A-4, Thank you my friend!!!

I also forgot to mention that we were treated to a show by the USAF Thunderbirds when we got to Daytona Beach on the 14th. There was an air show at the Dayton International Airport and the group was kind enough to do an almost complete show for the people on the beach. It was fantastic to watch them perform a diamond maneuver, closing split maneuver, rightside up/upside down in tandem, 90 degree increment barrel rolls and other things that I'm not qualified to describe. To say the least it was fantastic!!!!!

Finally returned and able to post again after getting through my mound of mail and laundry--didn't miss either or the Ohio weather. Was nice to see the neighborhood up close and personnel and can't wait until we're residents--I'm so glad I stumbled upon this thread as I was looking to rent a golf cart or would have never communicated with such a wonderful group of people! I'm excited to break ground on Wednesday and am looking forward to the progress-can't believe that the house will be complete in 10 weeks-what an awesome New Year's gift--my husband now thinks he's off the hook for Christmas too:icon_wink: Rusty it was great to meet you and Janice and hope you made it back safely!

You guys didn't miss each other by much. I told Janice that I was mortified at the way I looked so I promise that I will be cleaned up the next time we see each other! Do you guys start your build on the 24th? If that's correct you know that I'll be getting pics for you of the big day. We loved meeting you and your hubby and I know that we will all be fast friends! Please hurry up and get back down here and convince your friends that they need to get a lot in Gilchrist while they still can...lol

Don't let Hotrodgirl fool you. She chose Gilchrist because they are party animals :)

And your point is what shcisa????? :1rotfl:

We met the friends of our new backdoor neighbor (directly across from HotRod) this afternoon and we hear that the owners are really nice people. I told the owners friend that he better warn the owner that if they're not party people then they might want to consider changing lots before they throw in with the rest of us. The friend assured us that our new neighbors will fit right in with the Gilly's. :MOJE_whot:

As "Pink" would sing....Lets Get This Party Started!!!!!

This past Monday I ventured into Gilchrist to take a few photos of hotrodgirl's home under construction. I think the two construction workers who were working on her home were wondering what I was doing there. Glad to report I had no flat tires from stray nails. Hope all of you who are building homes south of 466A have happy move-ins and happy settling in!

It'll be worth the Corona's to hear the stories. When I was with my former company we did background investigations for security clearances. I learned as an air traffic controller that if you didn't think you were the best there was, you were probably going to kill someone. Then I learned as a pilot that if you didn't think you were the best there was, you're probably going to kill yourself. Navy Pilots are an unusual breed.

Anyone know if code requires metal plates on the studs where wires are run through the stud to prevent you from drilling into the wire?

A-4 Skyhawk
10-23-2012, 02:20 PM
Not required if the wire is routed in center of a standard 2 X 4 or through the center knockout on a metal stud. It has to be located such that a sheetrock screw won't reach the wire. And when the wire runs down the stud it should be stapled to keep the wire in the center of the cavity. You see more metal plates over plumbing than you will electrical wires.

where did the phrase "Schedule 40" come from?

Whenever anything was designed (I'm talking in the old days, like early 20th century), the draftsman (draftsMAN, because women didn't do work like that, :1rotfl:) would draw the diagram of how the object would look, and then would provide a "schedule" or a list of specifications...the schedule could include size, tolerances, type of material, color, whatever else was called for by the engineer. In the case of pipe, there isn't much to specify...just diameter and thickness. So, "schedule" in pipe just means thickness

And while I'm an expert at reading out of context, where did the phrase "Schedule 40" come from?

Jimbo gave the technical answer. The simple answer is Schedule 40 plumbing pipe is heavier duty than minimum and better withstands ground movement, etc. and is harder to crack. It is a typical heavier duty plumbing pipe usually. Standard in building applications.
Yes, guys are good for some things! Plumbing and even photography.

Gracie and I have been so busy keeping an eye on the neighborhood that we've forgotten to tell everyone whats been going on at Bradshaw Lane!

Last week we had Tim "The Toolman" Taylor install the attic stairs and put an epoxy covering on the garage floor. Now I can finally start clearing out Janice's craftroom. :pepper2:

Yesterday I managed to put together another storage cabinet for the garage, put a lot of stuff in the attic for storage and set up a wall mounted garage vacuum.

Today, Woody from Superior Concrete Designs comes to acid wash the lanai in preparation for the paint/design. I've also got to put together an over the commode storage shelf for my mother who officially becomes a frog on Friday. I'm also making a trip to Home Depot for lumber to build my workbench in the garage.

Janice left yesterday for San Francisco to see the grandkids for two weeks so Gracie, Annabelle and I are baching it for a while.

For those of you who haven't been in the 'hood for a while you will be absolutely amazed at what's happened in the time that you've been gone. This place has blossomed and homes are going up like toadstools after a warm rain.

I'm starting to get lonely up on the hill all by myself so I really wish you guys would light a fire, kick the tires and get your behinds down here!!!!

Yes, indeed! I got one as well. It was not necessary to have it with me, but I did just in case. I felt everything to be quite professional and above board. Seeing what may await after all is said and done, but I would expect more of the same. Can't wait to hear about your meeting, Jimbo, how it went, and what you thought! Then the excitement of the build. I am getting itchy now, as I can see so much progress and know the end is in sight! Six weeks to close. How can it seem so near and so far at the same time?

It's interesting about the time you close we begin........

I'm getting tired of drawing up different floor plan possibilities, I have a drafting table in my living room with papers all over the place including taped to walls.

http://geeksontheinside.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/its-alive.jpg

I don't think they will want to price all these out :rant-rave:

I worked out the spa and a really nice Home Theatre, it will have a 100" screen, always wanted one.

Good for you, Jimbo! That's exactly what you should have in retirement. Lord knowS you worked hard enough to get here, so enjoy these years ahead of you! I was so glad to hear you decided on the house you really wanted and will now design it just for the two of you! We all look forward to seeing that come to fruition!:coolsmiley:

We rec'd our discount certificate very soon after we set up the design meeting. I rec'd a call today from our sales rep and we were requested to send all our wants ASAP so our soon to be named designer has all our info in advance. We are meeting with our sales rep on Sunday to go to the models to pick out all the things we can. We have her all day. Then Monday we meet our designer.
I was actually putting down my thoughts today by room because we are in CT where I just met our third grand child Karissa Faye 11 days old today.
My wife has been here since before the birth so I had some catching up to do. She's such a cutie and we cannot wait to have our TV home ready for her to visit!

Hello Guys!!! Well, today was the big day! I was gone most of the day and when I got back I had to make a mad dash down to your lot to see what was going on. It appears that they got the foundation staked out and the lines stretched for the excavation. I would be willing to bet that tomorrow sees some sand being moved. The pic isn't great but I thought that you'd still want one of the First Day. Now it's full speed ahead...:crap2:

Are you serious....:jester: I cant wait until you guys get here!!! Believe me when I say that you are getting in on the first go around and there will be plenty more behind you. You're off the ground and will soon be flying at the speed of sound!!!

Sorry guys but I had to make a really quick run through the neighborhood today since it was getting late and there was no light with which to take some pics. Guess you'll have to depend upon word of mouth tonight! I'll try to do better tomorrow!

CalcTeacher's builders appear to have finished the pool plumbing and there is a nice, big stack of drywall in the garage! Nice!!!

Junction29's abode i still being wired. Looks like a corporate communications center is being build in that house.

Hotrod's painting appears to be continuing as well as more trim being installed.

This place is really booming and I want my neighbors here....okay, so I'm impatient...lol

Progress is being made and the neighborhood is growing!

Hello from Partyville, USA!!!

Looks like most of the plumbing for Coopers spa is complete and you've got a load of drywall waiting to be installed. You can just see the stack in the garage and there's a huge pile in the living room...lol. The rebar is also set for the lanai and the pool deck. They've also put up the metal lattice for the fancy do dad's around the windows and other areas. You're making great progress!!!

Hi Andy & Wendy! You home is coming along very nicely! You've got walls and there is a huge load of drywall scattered all over the house. Looks like they fixed the small leak in the kitchen area and everything's nice and dry. Once they start hanging drywall you'll really start to see progress. What can I say...you have made so much progress that I am almost speechless!!! You have a painted home and you also have tile. About 85% of the exterior is finished and it looks like all they have to do is paint the accent areas. I was stunned when I walked into your house this evening. You have tile in the kitchen, entry, hallways and bathrooms and it is beautiful. The pics are dark but I think you can get a feel for the progress anyway. Your home is beautiful!!!!

Now that my community responsibilities are taken care of I can give you guys a quick update on what's going on in my home....:girlneener:

The first application of the lanai stain went on today after having the concrete acid etched yesterday. We're going to use the house color for the field of the lanai and then accent this color with a wide adobe stripe and a doodad in each corner and then bring in a little color with a thinner teal stripe on the inside. The color scheme is something I came up with to try and make the lanai "fun". I've been trying to find an old sideboard or buffet that Janice and I can paint in "fun" colors but can't find one that I like. So, I guess I'm just gonna build one so I know I'm going to be getting what I want. We'll use this piece as a serving buffet/bar setup. We got a rug for the lanai which has a kind of medium brown field bordered by an adobe red stripe. Geez, I hope this thing turns out like I want it to. I guess this also means that I'm gonna have to build occasional tables for our get togethers. We found a really neat old bench at a local antique shop that we're going to use as a coffee table.

I can't wait until you guys get down here. I am so in the party mood!!! I'll post some pics when the lanai is finished!

Hotrod Girl, love your entrance way. It appeared to me the front door was not yet painted or stained. We are much more busy this week than we thought we would be. We also had Tim the Toolman do our garage floor this week. Had sidelites installed by Perrys, I have been shopping for flower pieces, hanging window treatment, etc. We most certainly need some solar tubes, will be installed next week. Sounds like Rusty and I are are contacting many of the same contractors, also had Woody give us an estimate on lanai floor, but it was recommended if we plan on tiling, not to paint. Since we were only here 5 days after we closed in July, I did have a short list of fixes we gave to the builder this AM. Nothing really major but I do have a 2" scratch in the stove top. I think I am now married to a landscaper. I had appointment this week for an estimate and yesterday morning Rich decides he is going to do himself! Promised me he would quit around lunchtime each day, but he worked until 6:30 tonight. I must say, the landscape wall he is building looks very nice. Having palms installed on Sunday. Also had kitchen cabinet guy out to give us an estimate to add a desk in kitchen. Haven't gotten that back yet. Money is flying out the door, but we are building our dream. Have not yet taken a drive through Gilcrest but will before we go back to New York. Have met many neighbors and they are all very nice, but not sure if they are the partiers you Gillys are. I so enjoy this thread and wish everyone best wishes in your new builds. Sounds like A4 will soon be on their way too. Rusty, if you head out towards Colony Plaza, take a small detour and stop over. We should be here since the landscaper is now in residence. Invitation open to anyone down here now. Take care, Linda

Rusty: Wow! The lanai looks cool! What a difference leveling out the surface makes! It's starting to look like our summer kitchen came from Barbie and Ken's townhome...it looks a little small! Oh well...I guess we can add a fridge later! The front is really shaping up also...something looks like it was added around the windows (trim? molding?) that make them look more finished. The front doesn't look nearly as regal and majestic as HotRod's! Her's is quite impressive! And it's too funny that Junction29 got drywall the same time we did! I knew they'd catch up to us!

Sounds like A4 will soon be on their way too.

Linda & Rich . . . . . you're right. We're almost on our way. Once we get through the TN house inspection, we'll be waiting for closing on December 7th. We have decided to not come down until just before or after Christmas since we have 45 days to vacate the TN house. Cathy and her Mom will stay at the Villages and I'll come back up after new years to have the house packed and put in storage. The anticipation of getting there and starting the design is killing us. I'm glad we've got the Sanibel cottage to stay at so we can personally watch the house go up. (anyone want to buy an almost new / furnished cottage ?? The day it was released for sale we bought it and there were 2 cars parked out front ready to buy it if we hadn't )

A4, yes it will be nice for you to watch it go up. Similar thing happened to us when we bought our ranch in Hemingway, we had 2 hours to make up our mind or there were other couples that wanted it, and we bought it site unseen. Sold it on our own though so that was good. My landscaper is past his time limit today, but don't think he is going to stop anytime soon. Guess I will need to make him lunch. Congratulations. Okay all you Bumpers & Stretchers :p
Cathy and I are talking to our sales rep about a bigger lot in Gilchrist that will accomodate something more than a golf cart garage and a "Rusty Craft Room". Our sales rep doesn't get into design or prices of bumps & stretches so I was wondering if you all can answer a few questions. We're going with a Zinnia:
- can the bedroom side of the house be bumped out a couple of feet? If so, how much?
- We'd like to add a bay window to the front bedroom? Anyone know how much?
- What are the different sizes available for bumping the Lanai and how much were they?
- I remember hearing of bumps and stretches of the garage. In which directions??

Thanks Kids:wave:
