Our rep ran an estimate but did not give us exact prices. We are bumping the den on the Sunflower which adddsca closet and adding 2 ft to the lanai. Both were in the $2,000 range. The den would have been more in the block and cement Begonia.

Not for nothing, but all your rep needs to do is ask the design group, ours did on several ideas, we received exact costs or if it wasn't done before an estimate was given. Each inquiry took a day or two.
He or she can do it.
They like to do things in 2' increments due to truss spacing, how much do U want to bump each of those item?

The size of your lot will determine how your home can be stretched - front, back & sides - in addition to garage placement (left or right garage- some placements can only be right or left) and any setbacks or ROW for utilities that the lot might contain.

Has anyone heard from the Mayor of Gilchrist lately? The wife is out of town...maybe he and Gracie did a little too much Happy Hour yesterday? Wanted to see if "Sandy" impacted anything in our fair Village...

Oh Calc...how could you even think that I would do such a thing...lol. Actually yesterday was an extremely busy time for me. I spent the morning sitting with Janice's uncle in Hadley, came home to put together an over the toilet storage unit for Mom's BR, took a shower and left for Orlando to pick up my mother and brother. Finally got back from the airport and dinner at about 10:00pm. I did manage to take a short foray down by your lot and you have ditches for the footers as well as rebar in same. To be honest, I'm not sure hat happened on Amherst Way yesterday but I promise that Gracie and I will do our inspection tour sometime today and take pictures that have a little bit of light in them.
I do have one question. If I'm being called the "mayor" of Gilchrist, is this a compensated position? If so, we all need to get together on salary and benefits...:a20: Also, I'm not so sure that Gracie isn't going to want a dog biscuit or two thrown in for her security services!!!!
Hope each and every one of you has a great weekend while I'm down here laboring on your behalf!!!:1rotfl:

I forgot to mention that Hurricane Sandy really hasn't had much of an impact at all other than having some major league winds yesterday. As I was coming back from Hadley in the GC it felt like I was being pushed backwards. When I got close to Gilchrist I saw what appeared to be a huge sandstorm headed my way. And guess what? It was a huge sand storm. The wind picked up all the sand from the undeveloped lots and was blowing it from west to east. It was impressive to say the least. Other than that, we survived very nicely, thank you! So, bottom line, Sandy shouldn't have had much of an impact on the neighborhood at all. That's one of the things that I love about living in the interior of the state. We usually get the wind and rain but not the storm surge or flooding that they get on the coast.
I'll get pics out to everyone later in the day!

Finally, our lot shows up on the neighborhood map in red ....and so do the two behind us on Amhest right off of Eastfield ...... Either of there your's?... Would be fun to meet the backyard neighbors! We are on Hackberry, second in from Eastfield!
Have a good weekend and stay out of sand storms!

Rusty: thanks for the update and good to hear that all is well. As a matter of fact, "mayor" is a compensated position--but no money changes hands, only libations! As for the benefits, well, those only one: you get to be neighbors with all of us and we get to be neighbors with you.
As for Gracie: I think one of Cooper's biscuits will probably last her a week...so we can work that out!
You sound a lot like Ed and I...Ed's mom and sister live in TV (can't remember which village) and my parents live in Village of Tamarind Grove (just moved there this past June) so I forsee Ed doing multiple projects in multiple homes once we get down there in June! He's only in health care until he gets his big break in carpentry! Hahaha!
One thing I've never asked you: who's that adorable munchkin perched on top of your shoulders in your picture?

Hi All,
We have been over to France for a couple of days (to fetch another van load of furniture) and when we got back the internet had a problem so we haven't been on for the last few days and we can't believe how many people, new and old, have posted on the 'thread' whilst we have been away!
Thanks to those of you who have commented on the progress of our new home and special thanks to Rusty and Gracie for the pictures, we can't believe how fast they are building it.
Just one point Rusty, you mention that the amount of wiring makes it look like a Corporate office is being built, but don't forget that as multinationals, we have a certain entertaining expectation on us and if we run out of wine, beer or spirits, we need to be able to contact our suppliers, at home and overseas to replenish stocks quickly - adequate global communications are vital.
Just our luck that the building progress competition has been suspended due to over abundance of competitors - we were hoping to win it - is there a Corona consolation prize?
Just five weeks left to when we come back to the USA and just two more to our closing - the waiting is like having teeth pulled, we can't wait until it is all over and we get to meet everyone and start planning the extended party season.
A pity that we won't be there for Thanks Giving, but all those who are, have a great one and our thoughts will be with you.

WE GOT AND ACCEPTED AN OFFER ON OUR HOUSE TONIGHT:pepper2::pepper2::pepper2: And we're shopping for a bigger lot in Gilchrist unit 210. THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Hi A4
We just knew you would sell it when we looked at the pictures, you have (had) a lovely home.
We're not worried that you are off to 210, it is only just up the road, hardly worth getting the GC out for and certainly not to far to stagger back and forward to after a night partying!

junction29,
You're arriving about the same time as us.
We planned on being there Dec 1st if we rented our home or not.
But after turning down several, we just found a great tenant with a USPS job.
Broker just dropped off check and lease.
Now we can plan better, can't wait for our design date.

It's interesting about the time you close we begin........
I'm getting tired of drawing up different floor plan possibilities, I have a drafting table in my living room with papers all over the place including taped to walls.
http://geeksontheinside.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/its-alive.jpg
I don't think they will want to price all these out :rant-rave:
I worked out the spa and a really nice Home Theatre, it will have a 100" screen, always wanted one.
Hi Jimbo2012,
Just wondered what the charge will be on film nights?
Will a couple of bottles of Corona do and we wondered whether you will be putting the filming program in the Daily Sun?
Having a Home Theatre sounds fantastic:eclipsee_gold_cup::coolsmiley:

We land in the US on the 29th Nov and are renting a villa for a month whilst we get ours finished and furnished, but with a closing date of 17th Dec, we hope to be in and partying by Xmas.
The design meeting is very smooth and professional, we concerntrated on getting all the stuff done that can't be altered after build, like the stretches and it went really well.
Looking forward to meeting you all soon.

Well the ticketing thing I haven't figured out, was thinking cutting the price of the real movie theaters say they want $7.
I can offer hanging out for say two Coronas :beer3: and a handful of peanuts or  per person, reruns free.
Second feature only one beer

Our sales rep called a little while ago and gave us an update on new lots coming available that can handle what we're interested in. Looks like A-4 is going to cross over to Gilly Land. There goes all of your property values :cryin2:

:22yikes:Jeepers! Lots of activity this morning! Seems everyone has something to offer today, but nothing new on my end... Just waiting to close on a house here and then I can pay for the house there! So, a friend of mine is in TV this week for a LSV and his agent (who is filling in for my agent on vacation) took him over to my house. He called me yesterday and was amazed at the amount of activity going on in our neighborhood. He got to go inside and remarked on the quality of the build which he said was good quality. And the crews were quite good as well. He used to be in construction, so a nice accolade! Jimbo anytime you are showing Gene Wilder, I'm in for a ticket! Coronas in hand! It seems Dec and Jan will bring in a lot of newbies, myself inclusive, and I am ready for some of those parties we keep talking about! Maybe some sort of progressive dinner is in order! Can't wait to meet each and every one of you this winter!!! Oh-almost forgot. Tonight I am having dinner with Carm310 and her hubby Frank, Jillybean, and Schaumburger! We're having a TOTV Chicago style!! and by the way, it's:cold:here!!!

I don't know when the concrete crept in on me but there is certainly a lot of that hard stuff covering the rebar and there is a nice load of block and mortar on the property just begging to be put to good use!
Congrats!!!

I think Ed and I are going to get along famously with all of our projects! I'm not much on carpentry but I do enjoy making furniture. Sometime when I think about it I'll post pictures of the school teachers desk, sofa table, end table and lingeree (underwear) chest I made for Janice.
That adorable munchkin perched on my shoulders is my youngest cousins daughter who live in Gainesville. I just love her to death!!!

Thanks for the pics! Wow! Is that the bedroom we added the bathroom to? I thought it was the garage at first but then up in the corner I think I see some sort of ceiling thing (what do you call that? coffered?). Thanks for the pictures and glad to hear that Sandy didn't wreck havoc on our little corner of the world--we're awaiting to see what she does up here:mad: as all day today it's been cold and rainy-yuck and double yuck! Everyone's houses are looking fantatic--Carol I love the color of yours--I think ours may be very close but the white trim really makes it "pop!' Lisa--your pool will be amazing when finshed! Wendy--your house is coming along at record speed! Rusty--again you're a gem!

Rusty, every time you post pictures, I am amazed at the progress. EVERYWHERE!:22yikes: And each time I see someone's home, I see stuff I wish I had done! But it's nice that we all did it our way and there will be differences in models, structure, details, etc. That make each one our own! Not as cookie cutter as other developments.
Calc-love the lanai as I have said and I can see a party or two out there! And Junc.29! Wow! You have just about caught up to everyone! Twin, getting there day by day!
If you all are up for some sort of progressive thing, perhaps Gilly can do one, then the Ferns, and I can't remember if there are a number of us from Charlotte and Sanibel or not. They could host together maybe if they wanted or just come along to ours! I will take first crack at the main course! And I cannot wait! How fun to get together!
Thanks again your mayorship and Gracie for keeping us all in check! Out the door for dinner with more TOTV friends!

Well shoot! With all the December closings I was hoping that we'd have a huge gathering. Looks like those of us that will be here will have to establish the Gilly Party Tradition!! :crap2: For those who won't be here don't worry. I have a feeling that the party spirit will continue indefinitely. When you do get here be prepared to parteeeee!!!!
Last night at dinner, Janice's aunt suggested that we also have a block party. Based on where my house is, we could block off Bradshaw at the intersection of Eastfield and at the other end and only affect my house and one other that's not even started. She assured me that nobody would complain. Bring out lawn chairs, drinks and some food.

Yes, Hurricane Sandy will be wreaking havoc here before too long. Mike Seidel of the Weather channel is reporting from our beach right now. We are under mandatory evacuation by 4 PM today as we are only a block to the beach and very anxious about the entire scenario. People ask me how can I stand to leave the beach to move inland to TV - I guess my answer can now be - Sandy! This is the price we pay for living here. Safety is our primary concern - so we are going to stay with my mom who is 30 miles inland.
Just hoping that we don't sustain any or too much damage as we are scheduled for our TV design appt in 18 days! Let's hope for the best! And for everyone who is being affected by Sandy, please stay safe!

People on the "Spreadsheet" ask me what are we going to do with this list of friends and neighbors? I'm not a community or party organizer, but what I tell them is I see one BIG A$$ EVENT where on a date selected by the residents south of 466A we all meet at 4:00 at Bradenton Rec Center in our golf carts. After a lot of hand shakes and introductions, "The Mayor of Gilchrist" will lead a caravan of golf carts to Brownwood where we'll take over the square for an evening of drinks, dancing, and socializing. I see it happening every once in a while and maybe the first time in January or February when people are starting to be there. If anyone out there south of 466A wants to get on the list for the event notice, PM or email me your email address. If you're already on the "Spreadsheet" you're already covered.

Just had a thought.
Don't forget that as an 'International neighbourhood', we need to be partying and celebrating the New Year over quite a few hours.
For instance we will be starting partying from well before 7pm (or 19:00hours - which way do you guys say it?), so that we are in the right mood for ringing the UK (5 hours before) to wish all our friends and family over there a Happy New Year.
It will be a long party night by the time we have wished all the people in the US, from TV to Hawaii a Happy New Year as well - i think that New Years Day may be a day of rest!
Or will it be a case of 'the hair of the dog' (do you say that in the US?)

Just saw the weather forecast for West Virginia. You headed back up later this week to do some snow skiing?? :yuck:
Oh gimme a break!!! How can you crash the party when you're one of the invitees????
I'm not going back to WV until I have to go to give my niece away at her wedding in late November. That's a worthwhile trip and I doubt very seriously that I'm gonna be making many trips back that way. I'm perfectly happy right where I am!!!

I certainly hope and pray for your safety. Please be careful during Frankenstorm!!!

:1rotfl:
Andy, you have made such a wonderful point! I've always heard it said that Americans and Brits are a common people separated by a common language but you are very correct that "hair of the dog" is indeed used here. I have to sadly admit that I'm not the man I used to be so if we decide to celebrate with the UK then the Hawaiians may be on their own...lol. But, be assured, that I can still hold my own. I'm kind of thinking that as a former Naval Aviator, A-4 might be able to hold his own also. I'm also betting that some of our Gilly Gals will be right in the thick of things also. This might really be an interesting celebration!!!

Rusty you are just too precious! Mincemeat is exactly what it says! Minced meat! Once upon a million years ago I used to make and can that, as my hubby grew up on a farm in Indiana! Not sure you'd like it as it has a rather particular taste:undecided: but go for it and give it a try! Love the block party idea, along with the progressive dinner and any other party we have discussed! Yep, party central over our way!
I'm starting to pack up a few things in anticipation of my drive to TV! Just a bit over 5 weeks to close! Stressed to the max right now as I have a closing on Nov 5th, an estate sale pending and the start of a new rehab looming. I just keep telling myself "One day at a time". Wish I could get some decent rest, but I keep thinking that will come in another few weeks!
Looking forward to seeing next weeks' progress for everyone! Glad to help with the pics once I am there!

Hi Guys,
Just checked with the cook;
Mince Pies are Fruit, Sultanas, Currents, Candied Peel etc in a pastry case and we have them both hot and cold with fresh cream poured over them - whoops, just slavered all down my shirt, sorry.
I will make sure Wendy brings her recipe book, (although I have never seen her use one when she makes them) I don't know how to make them, but I am good at eating them - yum yum

Just been watching a BBC news program and they have been covering Hurrican Sandy.
It is not often that they cover the weather in other parts of the world unless something bad is happening and this looks a really bad storm
We know you guys come from all over the USA and if any of you have friends or family in the areas that are likely to be affected by it, we pray that they do not get hurt or their property damaged.
Nature has a way of showing man just how puny he really is from time to time, but then in the aftermath, we often show ways in how far we are prepared to go for those who need help.

It's been non stop raining here in Ohio since Saturday with just a few breaks into the evening hours--now we're just waiting for the winds tonight. We heard that some our power companies and Red Cross are traveling East to help out--I can't imagine anymore rain and wind but unfortunately I think it's going to come. We pray that everyone will be safe and sound also as we have many relatives and freinds that will be affected!

I'm in Northern Virginia (near Dulles Airport). They just closed our school systems again for tomorrow (as a teacher, can't tell you how much I love this--just wish it wasn't for something so dangerous). The full force of the storm isn't even here yet and it's pretty scary. My daughter lives in Philadelphia and attends Wharton...they closed for 2 days but made that decision yesterday...they are supposed to get pretty much a direct hit. This storm is unbelievable...

Right now we are hoping that the storm will make landfall BEFORE high tide this evening. Regardless the devastation is so widespread that it is inconceivable! Not sure what we'll find when we return to our home, but at least, we are safe, which is the most important thing.

The latest I heard is that the storm is moving faster than anticipated. That means that it will arrive sooner, but the good news is that it is expected to hit landfall before high tide. The bad news is that the latest course appears to be headed for the Jersey shore, much of which is already underwater. And, that is a worse case scenario for Manhattan.

Hi Guys & Gals! I'm really happy to report that you have a foundation. From the looks of the pic and I suspicious that you're gonna have the same kind of foundation as Calc. The top row of blocks are sawn in half lengthwise and looks like fingers protruding out into the concrete to give it grip. Although, I did miss the pouring of my foundation so this just may be the way that they do it! Interesting...enjoy the pic!!!

Hey Everyone!!! I'm gonna take a few minutes away from my "official neighborhood duties" and post a few pics of the lanai I just had painted. I used Superior Concrete Designs by Woody and couldn't be happier. The field color matches the house. The wide stripe is a clay red and the inner stripe is a teal. I know it's a little out of the box color wise but you'll just have to wait until the whole lanai is finished with the homemade sideboard and occasional tables. The field color is a little bit off in the pics due to the light and it really does match the color of the house. I really like it but I have yet to send pics to Janice so I don't know if I'm in trouble or not. She left town after giving me broad instructions on the colors that she would like. She gets back next Monday so if you don't hear anything from me after that time you can assume that she didn't like the color and I'm probably buried in someones foundation. Well, at least I'll still be in TV won't I???

Can't wait to get Gracie in the pool with a life preserver, but she definitely will get a scrap or two from the grill! What a big change from the last pictures you sent! Uh Oh! A-4, if you bought the brewery (in Mexico) you'd better be careful about answering the questions on the SF-86 for your next security clearance. When you answer yes to the question about foreign financial interests that's gonna open a whole can of worms that the investigator isn't gonna want to delve into. My Mum and Dad always make sure that i don't offend anyone and I am sure that there will be no problem around Gilchrist.
A4 & Hotrod, the flight from the UK is 9.5 hours and they won't let me in with the 'uman people and I have to be carried in the hold, so I will be in the cage for just over 12 hours and I expect I will be dying for a wee when we get there.

Hi everyone, as I reported earlier we were evacuated on Sunday and have not been allowed back to our home yet  We don't know what we will find when return. Links and pics from a FB link that I subscribe to have been devastating to say the least. Search and rescue are still underway. We went to my mom's house which is 30 miles inland and lo & behold she lost power last night! So we took my mom and are now staying with one of sons who does have power. Gypsies!!! The important thing is that we are safe and together. The worst part is not knowing. Bright note - We are still planning to be down for our design mtg on 11/17, so that is something to look forward to. Prayers and good wishes to all.

Chicago is just fine. We had 25 foot waves on a very angry Lake Michigan and severalpublic areas near there were closed. I am 25 miles north of the city on the lake but I don't think it was quite as bad? Not sure. They would not let us down to the beaches here in my hometown-the entrances were baracaded. I am certain that did not stop some, however. Apparently there have been surfers out there. Idiots! We have sustained some very high winds, but nothng like your area! it should calm down a bit tomorrow. The dogs are having a wonderful time chasing leaves! Sorry to say that there's no progress on Twins foundation today. Don't know what the problem was but I'm sure that work will resume on schedule!
Calc, Junction29 & HotRod all had workers at their homes but I didn't get a chance to make an inspection tour due to being on special, super dooper, secret assignment for A-4. You know how those military guys are...ya have to keep your mouth shut or else!!!!
More to come tomorrow!!!

Glad to hear everyone survived the rath of Sandy and are slowly picking up the pieces and will try to return home. As Rusty said houses can be rebuilt but bodies can't! I've never felt or heard such horrible winds as last evening and Lake Erie churned up massive waves--peaking at 30'. We used to own a boat and docked at Cedar Point-still have many friends on the water--so much destruction.
I think I may have to come down and give those workers a big push on our lot--we need some more progress:grumpy: I guess a watched pot doesn't boil!

Twin! I think you should make a personal visit to Gillyland a out the 10th of Nov! Calc will be there too! You could have a birthday parade around the area for Mr. Mayor and enjoy his new lanai! Wish I could attend...
And all is forgiven if Rusty was doing secret service work! You had better be scoping out the lot of a lifetime, Rusty, if we hope to have A-4 in our corner! I think we all have so much to look forward to! I must wish I could get there a lot sooner. I am definitely ready to meet all my wonderful neighbors! :highfive:

You new homeowners in Gilchrist are giving me a very good vision of what my neighbors must have been like 20 or so years ago when they first bought and built in TV. The great folks on my cul-de-sac here on the historic side have remained friends through all of these years and have shared joys and heartaches over the years here in this little piece of paradise.
I've heard so many of their stories about the growth of TV and the changes they've witnessed throughout the years. I've heard their stories about how they made their ways to TV and their lives before they retired and built lives here. What you are experiencing now, they experienced back when they were your ages.
Make good memories and make good friends. If you each have lives here just half as good as these people who have taken us in and are now our neighbors and our friends, you'll be blessed. Have fun! Your conversations and photos make me smile.

BK, what a thoughtful and inspiring post. Thank you! And yes, I hope we will all be as happy as your wonderful neighbors! It is such an experience for us all as we come from different places, different past lives and cultures, only to be thrown together in a little bit of paradise! So we must all make a new life together as we have left so many others behind. It must be wonderful to hear all those stories and make new memories!
We seem to be a pretty friendly group so I hope you will wander over to visit!
Thank you again for suchan encouraging post:BigApplause:

I think this underscores one of the arguments for buying new vs resale in older villages.

Yes it's true. The Mayor / Corona Meister / Mountain Boy / Private Detective :police: has been on a mission, camera in hand and armed with his good judgement. He's been scouting out lots that can handle some bumps in the Gilchrist area for me. Last night I send my "sales rep" an email with my selection. Now I'll wait to hear if it's available or reserved for a spec house. The bad news is the lot I've picked is very close to what I call "The Gilchrist Cluster" which means the property values in that northeast part of unit 209 will be plummeting. I hope you all can handle the low passes over your roofs on occasion. :plane:
By the way, I don't mean anything derogatory when I call you all a "Cluster". :22yikes: It's just that you are all so close together, Ya Know ?? :sing:
Everyone have a nice day. Our prayers are with our TV friends impacted by the storm.

I love these covert operations, A-4! Keeping my fingers crossed that whatever you've picked out, it's not on hold or slated for a spec house. By the way, if it's in 210, not sure it can be on hold...there can be agents "backed up" on a lot waiting for it to be released. Might you be looking for something in 209?

:agree: I tend to shy away from sensitive topics like politics and religion. My wife's aunts neighborhood has a long standing agreement that these two topics will be avoided...lol. And, I'm not a gossiper. If I have something to say to you I'll say it to your face as opposed to behind your back. I highly respect someone who will do the same with me...with tact of course! Rona, thank you for posting! I think we have all been worried about our new friends. The important ting is that you are all together. I hope you will find things mostly intact when you arrive back home. At least you have something to look forward to in your design meeting! I wish you well and let us know what happens down the line.
Take care and let us know how you make out!

Well, unfortunately for us, my husband ventured down to our home and found that we suffered pretty significant damage. The entire first floor is destroyed, as is garage, generator, mechanical, etc etc. there is a layer of mud throughout. While we are lucky compared to so many whose homes were washed away, it is still very heartbreaking, especially when you see the devastation surrounding us. It is like a war zone.
Now the clean up begins and then the rebuild. Bright side to this according to hubby is that we won't have as much to pack to move to Fl !!;-)

I can't wait as we had such a great neighborhood in Parma--it was a brand new developement and we all built at the same time-moved in at the same time and developed lasting freindships. Saw babies born-grow up and marry-were there to help everyone through the good times and bad.
Fun block parties-great neighborhood watches and just a special down home feeling by building at the same time and living next to eachother for so long. I still miss them now:cryin2:

I hesitate for a sec (can't recall any warrants out for me) and say "Yep!". Come to find out that the Flintstones have been in town for two weeks and I didn't know it... We talked for quite a while and I found out that another home is gonna be starting in about a week or so. :faint: Guys, there's only so much one poor scrawny guy can do. I desperately need some help here!!!!! We had a really, really nice conversation and just confirmed my on-going opinion that we are probably the most blessed group of people that have ever purchased homes in TV. Our prayers and thoughts go out to everyone affected by Hurricane Sandy. As I said before, I am so happy that everyone is safe and sound. In times like these you just have to look at what you have instead of what you've lost. Things can, in most instances, be replaced. Husbands, wives, children, relatives and friends cannot. You are all strong and will make it through with a little help from your friends!!!

Please forgive me but I hate to get in their way. A quick walk by showed something going on inside of Calc's home, Junction29 has stucco and fancy doo dad's over the windows, Hotrod's birdcage is finished and she has power with a lit up lamp post in front. Twin had more foundation work going on with backfilling and compacting. The forms are up for the concrete. Everyone is making wonderful progress!! It's getting closer than y'all think!!! Seems like a perfect solution! And when it's not being used for official neighborhood business, it could be Cooper's chariot!
I think it's a great idea but could we paint one side with the Corona colors??? :coolsmiley:

Rusty, thanks for your call last night and I couldn't even get to the pictures right away. Busy, busy, busy today and finally a minute to get caught up!! I was SO amazed that in the course of just one day, so much has taken place! It's beyond belief! Was it much the same at your place? I am a bit worried about the carpet as it looks all wrong... I selected a much lighter color than what is appearing in the pics, but perhaps it is just the lighting. It is still almost 5 weeks to close for me and it seems they will be done so much sooner. Hope they don't overlook anything!!! I am chomping at the bit to get in there and see the finished product! Thanks again for being the official Gilly photographer! Love to see those posts!:spoken:
I don't think you have anything to worry about, Hotrod. The carpet looked light in color to me and I think what you saw was probably just a trick of the camera. I'm sure it will be alright. I can't imagine what they were doing in your house tonight? As a matter of fact they were still there when I took Gracie out for her even constitutional at 9:00. The can't have much more to do since the floors were finished and the carpet was probably finished today. If it's unlocked tomorrow I'll send more pics. I just couldn't resist calling yesterday because I was so excited for you!!!

OH MY GOD . . . . YOU ALL
In a day or two I WILL BE SENDING YOU A PICTURE of the covert act that my friend Rusty did tonight . . . . in the dark. I legally can't send it until tomorrow night or Saturday. After Cathy and I both screamed OMG about three times after seeing what he did, we spent the next hour laughing so hard . . . . well I won't go further with the details. The man will go to the ends of the earth for a friend. We're lucky to have him on our side, if we can figure out how to keep him on the good side of the law.

Hey Hotrod!!! I have good news & bad news. The good news is that your birdcage is complete and your home looks mahvelous!!!! The bad news is that your home is locked up tighter than Dicks hatband and I can't get in any longer! See, that wasn't so bad was it???
There was a notice on the front door to the contractor and the sub-contractors to clean up after themselves and to wipe their feet because all of the flooring is down. I looked into your MBR (felt a little perverted...lol) and everything sure is down.
Enjoy the pics...my job at this site is done!!!

Hi Guy & Gals!!! You're making wonderful progress. All of the drywall is up, taped and mudded. Your stucco looks great and you have a really nice little architectual detail by the front door. You're primed for the knock down finishing on the drywall it would appear!!!

There's no material at the job site so I don't know what tomorrow will bring. I didn't realize that you also have a nice little comfort station off the lanai for when your pool party guests need to give back the beer that they drank prior to getting into Coopers pool!!! It looks wonderful!!!

Hi Everyone! Sorry to report no progress on the foundation this day. All of the backfill is in place and there is plastic covering it. The forms appear to be up for the concrete but the builder hasn't consulted with me to give me a date for the pour...sorry. I'm sure that you have the same foundation as Calc's and I know that they can commisurate with you. Let's keep a stiff upper lip and see what tomorrow brings. Rusty! You're such a comedian! But yes, we added a "beer return station" for the comfort of our guests...hahahaha! Thanks for the pics! It's dissappointing that there are no materials on site...we REALLY are hoping that kitchen cabinets will be in before we arrive next week. We were trying to gauge it based on HotRod's build, but since we have different builders, they might do stuff in different order. She got her cabinets about 5 days ago, right? We were hoping since her close date is a week before us that we were a week behind her...but it doesn't appear that way! Ugghhhh....

I honestly have to admit that I don't remember when Hotrod's cabinets were installed. Everything is running together too much for me to remember stuff like that. :a20: I'd say that paint will be the next thing that happens.
We'll see what this coming week brings. This seems to be the point in time when things explode.

I believe that SOLD sign that was placed on an un-named lot in the middle of the night by our "Favorite Son of Gilchrist" :eclipsee_gold_cup: was a gesture of wishful thinking. I sent the picture to my Sale Rep and told her to "make it a reality". She has apparently figured out where the "FSoG" lives because she said she was sending the Villages Police to his house. She backed off when I told her the "FSoG" was a retired State Trooper.
 :boom: :a20:
So we wait . . . . . . and pray  that the lot we want will come open soon and our rep can beat anyone else to it if there is some one else interested. We'll be dissappointed if we don't get #1, but we have 5 or 6 others lined up on our research list that will do just fine. Size for stretching and orientation are our major criteria.
This Gilchrist thing you've all got me hooked on better work out because I've already been kicked out of and disowned by the Flockers (spelled F-L-O-C-K-E-R-S Sara) and the Unit 206'ers.

Oh that sign is on the right lot alright. Rusty is a PRO at that stuff. As for the lot number, we (Rusty, Cathy, and I) haven't told anyone yet because we don't want to give the "Lot Seekers" the benefit of our research. We’re hoping that the SOLD signs that were placed on every lot on that street will be enough to deter lookers and lead them somewhere else :rant-rave:

Good luck getting a lot. We bought a lot in 205 the first week of June but really wanted one in 210 and kept waiting for it to open so we could swap our lot before our design meeting Oct 1. We were watching a dozen times a day waiting for it to open and they opened 214 instead. Still waited up to the design meeting, didn't like the lot we had so switched to one in 208 on Mockingbird Lane instead. Still preferred the lot in 210 but with the way they rolled them out, maybe putting spec houses on all the lots I'm glad we were able to build the model we wanted with the stretches and features we wanted. We're right across the course from most of you on Amherst Way and are watching it go up through pictures from a neighbor. Again good luck getting your dream lot, unless it is the one I wanted!!!! Just kidding, I'm over it, hope you get it whichever one it is.

Gilly Friends,
We are back in Michigan after two fantastic weeks in Florida. We had our design meeting and it could not have gone better. TV makes the process do easy and fun. Really, we have built several homes before and it was never this easy. I am happy to say I was able to get everything on my wish list and still stayed under budget. On our last day at TV, we met Rusty walking his pooch down the street. What a great guy. We are going to have a super neighborhood for sure. We can't wait to meet everyone else. The good times are gonna roll! We got a picture from a Fern-Flocker yesterday telling us someone was on our "dirt". The picture showed guys staking off the lot already. Looks like things will be starting soon.

There was a notice on the front door to the contractor and the sub-contractors to clean up after themselves and to wipe their feet because all of the flooring is down. I looked into your MBR (felt a little perverted...lol) and everything sure is down.
Enjoy the pics...my job at this site is done!!!
Very nice Hotrod. You have set the standard for the rest of us to follow.

I will expect that all of you will supersede what I have done as the possibilities are endless! Except for a wood floor in the kitchen which my builder refused to put in! So I will enjoy what I got and cannot stand the suspense of seeing the. Finished product. Alas, the best thing in the entire neighborhood is all the new neighbors:beer3:

a wood floor in the kitchen which my builder refused to put in!
Surprised, they are done frequently.

I was also surprised. They said no, however and I might assume that for the new homes they have had warranty problems due to misuse or neglect by owners. Obviously I would be able to put one in myself, but it wouldn't match. So I will be happy with the tile for now. Perhaps if I had STRONGLY INSISTED they may have acquiesced, but why force the builder to do something he felt was inappropriate? I xo have beautiful wood floors in the living area which I will definitely enjoy!

Well Davina and I come down to design Thanksgiving week. So I guess they should start the build the beginning of December. If any one dares to visit Mockingbird Ln, I would not be adverse for a picture or two be taken
I'll be in touch!! :D It has been very exciting to see the different stages of the builds...
Where are you on Mockingbird? I have been taking photos of Calloway and would be happy to take yours as well.

Tomorrow we send all our design plans to our agent. Two weeks from now we should be having dinner in Gainsville. :2excited:

Wow so much action will be going on in the neighborhood into December and after the first of the year. I only wish that we could spend New Year's down there:rant-rave: We'll have to wait to meet everyone until the 3rd--just be sure to save some "bubbly" for us:wine: Rusty--you sly dog--glad to see you didn't end up in the "pokkie!" I'm sure that SOLD sign just happened upon the lot by itself:shrug:
I have no idea whatsoever about anything that may or may not have happened in Gilchrist 210 on the evening of 11/1/12. If memory serves, I was at home watching television & minding my own business. My mommy can substantiate my alibi! That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

As long as they are all within staggering distance AND we all keep well stocked bars for the visitors, I can't see a problem.:crap2:
I wonder if we need a very low speed limit imposing after dark around the whole neighbourhood to save the possibility of collision damage to cars and golf carts?
I don't think that we'll need a lower speed limit...my nightvision goggles work just fine thank you!!!

Hotrod has done a mahvellous job on her home but you've also got to get a gander at Calc's lanai. They knocked this one out of the park!!!! Plus, they've even got a BRS right off the lanai (Beer Return Station)...lol

Rusty, we almost knocked on your door this week, but didn't want you to think it was the Feds. Actually, we had been working all day and not all that presentable. We also had "Tim the Tool Man" do our garage this time. Spoke to Woody too, but just haven't decided how we want to finish the lanai. We stretched it so it will be great for entertaining, but no pool like many others. Carol, your home is beautiful! I am up for a girls shopping day anytime. A4 hope you get your first choice of lots. Junction 29, good luck with your closing and safe travels. Will most certainly be in touch on our next visit. Have to say, we had the best time at Cody's last night. They had an awesome vocalist there getting the crowd involved and probably a few too many "Long Island Iced Teas". 2 for 1 until 7 but we closed the place down last night. Got his card to get on his email schedule. Singer even jumped on the bar! It was a very quiet flight home for us this evening. Take care all until next time and we look forward to meeting everyone on this awesome post!

I've had 3 people email / PM me today telling me that they are being told that unit 210 is going to be all spec houses. If that is true that pops my bubble. There's nothing left in 209 that's big enough except for Rusty's back yard. Anyone know what the rules are for pitching a tent. Rusty - - - - can I run an extension cord to the back of your house?

A-4: Two lots are showing as "sold" so that can't be correct. I would find it hard to believe that all the gc lots will be spec. If they were, I would think there would be more construction going on now that "high season" is here...

Calc, I was just on looking at that map again and I agree. There are those two lots that are shown as sold which aren't even on the golf course which brings premium pricing so I would think you could get any lot if they have sold interior lots. Twin, my agent was on vacation 2 weeks, so the pics from Mr Mayor were essential to my well-being! :faint: every day I waited for an update from him and I have catalogued the pictures so I can relive the build! But now, I won't get to see anything until my Dec 5th close and that is the hard part! I did see the granite and floors (awesome) but it's the details I am waiting for! How it looks all put together with appliances, lighting, ect.... :sigh: just about 4 weeks to moving day!!! I feel like a school kid waiting for a reward! We've all worked hard to attain our goals and we deserve our slice of pie now! See you soon!

Gc lots are often spec even in premier units, look at 226, 215
The lots that you may think are sold are likely houses sold not just lots.
I saw a spec house near my lot that was bright green (home 4 sale) go dark green appearing like sold lot now.
My rep said they are all specs, so for her info has been been very reliable.
The next unit should have lots, 211.

11-04-2012, 08:28 AM
A-4, I cannot imagine that every single lot, save the 2 showing sold (that seems unfair) could be spec. I know the new model section will be in 210, but as Calc and Shcisamax suggested, some are premium that they can get a lot of money for. I wouldn't think they would take all those lovely lots and build spec homes! Granted, they will indeed be building the majority of those now, but I would hope for the next year there will be both... Keep on your agent and have him/her contact the powers that be to get a leg up for you. Perhaps they might release a lot to you if they know you have chosen one.

It seems to me from what I've seen and what we indeed to do with our property that the builders stand to gain a LOT more $$$ by allowing homeowners to design their own palaces. I could be wrong, and perhaps the designers are starting to get bogged down by all the customizations. It all comes down to the bottom line & ROI (for them!)
Good luck, A-4, and keep on your agent! Remember - things always workout for the best. It might not seem so at the time, but it usually does!

Have been following this thread and the excitement about building in Fernandina (unit 208) increases with each post. We close on Nov 29th but will be in the Orlando area on vacation from Nov 10-17 so are stopping in to check on our build. Will be there for the closing (just for a few days) but back at Xmas. Appreciate the efforts of A-4 on the spreadsheet.

On the other hand, the developer will be making more $$$ by adding customizations that some buyers might not be interested in.
As you correctly stated, it all comes down to the bottom line and building spec homes is obviously more profitable and expeditious for the developer. He can build a home in 60 days or less, sell it quickly, and close on it in 30 days, as opposed to having someone pick out a lot and not build for one year.
This is what they do when times are good. They've done all spec homes before, even premier homes.

Agree, my rep says it also gives them a chance to catch up on the lot owners that are building, and selling the lots that are currently avail. thereby closing out units.

I have never seen a spec built at it or near its base price, they load them, not only designers all the other models as well.

Junction 29 gave me a hint about some larger lots in F-L-O-C-K-E-R Land. :jester:
208 lots 133, 118, 132, and 64. If anyone knows the dimensions of any of these lots I'd appreciate knowing. I'm looking for a minimum of 70 wide by 94 deep. PM or email is fine. If plan A doesn't work I want to have alternate plans available. I'm working on option G right now
